Why FX's Y Ditched 'The Last Man'

After a long journey to officially getting a Hollywood adaptation, Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra's Y the Last Man is finally making its way to the small screen. But when FX announced its pilot order for a Y: The Last Man series back in April, the network surprised audiences when it announced the show would be simply called "Y."

FX CEO John Landgraf explained to members of the TV Critics' Association that the idea to simplify the title had multiple benefits to the show.

"I guess you tend to see one or two word titles," he said, acknowledging that there are some exceptions to the "Breaking Bad"s of the world. He added of the appeal of the one-letter title, "'Y' seems like a provocative shape. We can do a lot with it graphically. It's a little mysterious."
