Wick, Coil or Juice?!?

hey guys. I have an IPV Mini 2 and using a Kanger Subtank Mini. Ive been using the RBA section for a week n half and its been perfect, Ive rewicked a few times and had no problems.

Fast forward to today. I ordered new Juice (same flavour same MG), i ordered new coils (0.5ohm) and new wick (Koh Gen Do).

now, im getting no flavour? im getting plenty of cloud, just no flavour really. The coil burns from the middle out, the juice smells a little more diluted than the last bath i had (alpha vapes sweet tooth), but you can still smell it ok.

what would cause this? am my wicks too tight? would that stop juice going through the coil? my wicks do always seem very tight, like i cant pull them through freely as they will bend the coil. i have to spin them to the centre then just chop the bunny ears at about an inch in total from coil.

its baffling me. its hard to get the wick that thin so it goes through freely as its literally about 2-4mm thick to get it to move freely.

any ideas? ive also ordered some new juice to elimenate it being the juice.

vaping at 20w btw

cheers all

Hey bud....sounds like it could be too much wick...but if you always wick like that than again it could be something else. Wicking is a very touchy art...you might want to try and shave just a sliver more off the cotton before you wick your coil...too much wick can "choke" the atty causing it not to feed properly and burn the wick inside the coil inside out.

Do you have an OCC coil to instal in your tank to try your liquid with? Or even another tank or atty/dripper? You could have just a bad bottle of juice. I would use it in another device to know for sure. Even if your other tank or dripper doesn't have as good of flavor it will still tell you if your wicking is the problem. Another thing is coils do eventually wear out...even if you don't "pop" or break them you can only dry burn and clean a coil so many times before even with fresh cotton it doesn't taste good...the threshold for that is different for every person but I know there comes a point for me when I can't burn and scrape enough oxidation and residue off my coils anymore and it's time for a fresh one. For me, I have to change my coils at least once a month, usually twice.

Another thing that could be happening depending on how long you've been vaping is you could have Vapor's fatigue, also known as "vapor's tongue." Where you're not getting any flavor off of any juice. I would try another flavor of juice as well in your tank if you have one to see if you get any taste off of that. It will help you know if you got a bad bottle again. If you do have Vapor's fatigue then don't worry, it will pass...try drinking more water as vaping dehydrates and dries you out and find a couple more flavors you like and rotate them so you don't become desensitised to any one flavor. There's all kinds of other "home remedy" suggestions you can try too to clear your palate. You know, things like smelling coffee grounds or vinegar...anything that would clear your tastebuds otherwise can help get your sense of taste for vape back. Search the threads here on the forum and you'll find what I am talking about. We all go threw it at some point, worse case it will clear up on its own if it is that in a couple of days and like the Chicken Pox, once you've had it it's really hard to get it again.

Just to repeat myself one more time because it's so much fun :) ...variety is key, have a few to several different flavors you find that you can vape throughout the day to help keep your senses fresh and vaping flavorful and good luck bud :)

thanks for that reply, pretty helpful. ive ordered 2 different liquids to try and i also ordered some muji cotton rather than the koh gen do, muji seems thinner so im hoping itll be easier to fit through the tiny hole.

whats an occ coil btw? only gear i have is the rba, the 0.5 non rebuildable and the 1.2 non rebuildable.

i do actually think its the juice tbh as its produced fine clouds today at work just no flavour at all. think ima drop them an email and complain as i spent over £45 on juice in my last order and its all garbage

The occ coils are the non rebuildable coils you mentioned (0.5,1.2). Have you tried using the juice with those coils ?

What's your steep method?
Fwiw, fruity flavors require little steep for max flavor distribution while cola, creamy, custards and layered flavors may take up to a week or more.

like @Scooby said...the OCC coils are the non rebuildable ones that came with the tank...it's good to have a pack of those around with you as part of your carry gear in case you burn your RDA wick on accident....I've had mods unlock in my pocket and fry my kayfun and leave me pissed for the day. That's one of the nice things about the sub tank...you burn your RDA wick...just throw a premade coil in there and worry about rebuilding later and you're good to go....I personally hate the RDA deck for the subtank and think I get better juice flow and flavor from rebuilding the OCC coils...but that's just preference...

@bondo and @Neunerball are right about the steeping. I don't know which vendor you ordered from but it could be fresh juice or someone wasn't paying attention and got the flavor profile wrong...depending on the juice maker liquid is basically produced one of two ways. If they're a high volume company putting out liters and liters a day they will mix up large batches, sometime in quantities of several liters in one shot, and then they will steep and store, and pour as needed and put the date that your bottle was filled on there and not the date it was mixed. When done this way the company has to let their jug sit, even if they have heavy duty commercial mixing equipment like industrial magnetic stirrers and shit because the volume is so large that it has to deep steep and be regularly mixed to keep the flavor profile even across the entire batch or you'll get a bottle here and there that is all flavor and little nic or vise versa....either way, by the time it gets to you it's properly shaken, steeped, and stirred, even if it's born on date is yesterday because if they didn't keep up on that the lack of quality control would show and the way us vaper's gossip they wouldn't last in business very long.

The other way it's done is similar to a small scale DIY method....I see the small vape shops do this around town like they think just because they walk in the back I can't see them...that only works if the door is actually closed. And that is they mix up a bottle fresh, to order, when ordered. The mix is so young that it hasn't had time to steep enough or been shaken enough for the mix to be ready yet. I don't care what anyone else says...all liquid needs a minimum of 7-14 days of steeping with a daily shake to blend and mature properly...some take as long as a month or more like complex tobacco flavors to steep and mature. The first two weeks of a juice's life it is going to change in profile both in color and flavor daily, the first seven days it's really noticeable. I've got juice I made in big batch and I just am opening it a year later (yes it's still good, I made it so I know it is or I wouldn't have done this experiment but curiousity has the best of me and I wanted to know what my favorite DIY mixes would taste like in a year.) Some of them are still really good, some of them are horrible...the liquid never stops steeping unless you freeze it, VG can go bad sitting out, but it takes a year or so before it starts to happen..PG's got a two year "shelf life" although I am starting to think that's more of a safety warning, I don't know if it ever goes bad...more like stale :)

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that you didn't get crap juice...it can totally happen....or maybe it's vapor's fatigue...until you have more liquid and tried other coils we won't know for sure...I am just saying that juice in itself is a very alive and complex thing that ages and matures and never stops steeping and if done wrong can make for a sad days vape

thing is, ive ordered the juice many times before and its always been good to go out the bottle, i leave it on my pc with the lids off to just sit there and it gets shake when i take some from it.

anyway my 2 new juices came today and its definatly the juice, my new juice has tons of flavour. pretty gutted as i spent so much cash buying in bulk and its all dogshit. hopefully itll mature in a week or 2 and get some flavour to it, but i aint holding my breath

That sucks about the bad juice...but it could be worse...even the best chef's make a bad meal once in awhile...I've had that happen myself. I've gotten weak sauce flavor from my favorite juice company but it happens...I still buy from them and I think their stuff gets better and better and it's costing me money because I am DIY'ing less and buying premade more and more...but that's because I didn't let one weak sauce bottle detour my love of a certain juice. All in all I am glad you got it sorted out and it was as simple of fix as drip something else. Let it sit for a week in a dark place like in a drawer or in a corner of a closet with the top off...like if it's in a plastic dripper bottle take the dripper part off leaving it wide open and close it up once a day to shake good for 30-60 seconds...it won't be a miracle fix by a long shot....but you will get a little more out of it and I have a feeling if your half as deturmined as you'll have that thing vaped in no time at all out of principle and spite alone :)

Happy vaping!
