wife is new vaper, but having hard time

So Im trying to convert my wife into a vaper. I gave her the same setup I started with- ego sticks with cheap clearomizers, and we found her a few juices that she likes. strawberry and watermelon 18mg nic. Its been over two moths in trying. She got a new work truck that she cant smoke in, so this is important to us both.
She does ok smoking cigs out of the truck, and in traffic she copes with the stick.
But today, being around family that doesn't smoke, and dosnt understand the vaping thing, we just didn't vape at all for most of the day. when we got away, I just picked up my rig, and vaped away.
JESUS CHRIST, I thought her GD head was gonna explode when we got out of there. I have a 24nic menthol stashed in my gloved box for emergencies, and threw that on a stick and said to knock herself out. The 40 mile trip home was full of cursing, and wondering why the seatbelt in the damn car was getting tighter and tighter.

Im hoping the stress of the holidays had something to do with it, but how do you convert someone that is not wanting too? She knows she has to stop smoking, or else the job will take her new truck away, and give her a shitty one.
I gave her a aspire k1 and she likes it, but the nic just doesn't build up fast enuf for her. she could easily be a 2 pack per day smoker if it weren't so expensive.
any ideas?

While the K1 might be ok for her she honestly sounds like she needs a higher wattage varible device with a dripper/tank and with a wide bore.
As a former 2pad chinmey myself I have suffered and spent a ton in tanks shoddy weaker power supplies to land on mechs with drippers and wide bores.
Honestly when I used a tank it is in the realm of 24-48mg crawlin out of my god damned skull for nic... went mech and tobh with a wide bore tip dropped to 18, 12 to 6-9 on the first day using it.

As I typed that I am using a sub ohmed fogger on a nemy clone rocking my face off at 12 mg.

It may not be practical for her but I was in the same boat. I enjoyed my cigs and working construction the ecig can still be a pain sometimes especially when I am feeling the pressure and trying to figure something out. I tried the itaste VTR with the iclear 30s on it and it just wasn't cutting it for me. I ended up going to a mech and a dripper and it has made a world of difference for me. I haven't tried the RTA's yet hopefully they can hit fairly close to the RDA's so I don't have to turn around and drip all the time in order to get a decent hit from one. I was hoping to try out the Kayfun V4 here pretty soon.

Just as an FYI, while 24mg may seem high, I once had to make a 48mg nic level juice for a friend who was having a nic fit. And she was a closet smoker of marlborough lights. But it's different for everyone. Don't be afraid to try a higher nic level though.

My wife is having trouble also so I feel your pain. You will just have to try different setups and juices till she finds her combination. Good luck!

Glad that works for you but there is so much wrong suggesting something like that off the bat.

Oh sorry wasn't suggesting run out an buy that right now. I got there pretty quick but it was an evolution, was just meaning that was where I had to get to get the satisfaction needed. Just don't give up and you'll find what you need.

Probably an iStick with either a Nautilus mini or Aerotank mini with a decent level nic juice... maybe 18 or 24mg to start would be a satisfying relatively trouble free vape. That should allow her to get a quick fairly powerful nic hit quickly without fiddling with devices.

Its not so much the nicotine that is preventing your wife from making the switch, but rather, all the other addictive chemicals in those ciggies that have pretty much bonded into the brain. It takes time, but once you realize and acknowledge that its all the other stuff that is giving you all the negative withdrawal symptoms, it should become much easier to transition.

Kinda like my nephew who said he was addicted to "caffeine" but rather, it had more to do with the mental addiction to high fructose and sweetness of cola rather the caffeine itself. He figured that out when he realized drinking coffee didn't take any edge off not having a large cola ;)

I 2nd the iStick and a mini Nautilus with BVC's. Get 2 strengths of juice, 24 and 36mg. Have her start at 36 and then she can taper down when needed. If she want to quit bad enough, she will vape. If not, she will smoke and possibly vape and it might take longer.

As Browncoat said....Your wife has to want to quit. And KKen was also correct, that the chemicals in the cigs are going to wreak havoc on her system, when she is giving them up.

I tried to quit a couple times, and always failed after some time. Even using chantix. Ultimately 3.5 to 4 months ago, I just got really, really fed up with paying almost 7 bucks a pack for cigs that didnt even last half a day, and stank up everything.

I bought a pen, and some 18mg juice, and have not touched a cig since. I'm down to 0mg and different flavors, and I feel better. I washed everything, and cleaned up anywhere I smoked (garage and enclosed porch), and it is really nice to not smell that stale ciggy smell anymore.

I dont know what to tell you that will help your wife want to quit, and make the commitment to do so. Just be patient and dont harp on her, or as a fact of human nature, she'll rebel and you guys will get nowhere.

i agree.. i smoked and vaped.. then i laid the smokes down.. wasn't even trying to quit..
i lasted over 7 months.. thought i had the perfect set up.. and i did! but...
no back up.. and it busted on me.. at that time, people here did not vape much, and if they did..
spare bits i just couldn't ask for.. so back to smoking i went, till my gear got here..

even now.. i do not claim to be smoke free.. i might smoke 1-5 cigs per day..
other days or weeks, i won't touch a cig..
and i have been doing this for a little over a couple years..

the more you pressure some one to quit.. and if they do it for the wrong reasons..
well.. it has to be their choice..
it's for sure a different way to live.. one has to figure out what and why they do things..
in order to make progress..

one suggestion.. take her to different b&m's.. taste test juice and spoil her when she finds something she likes..
i'd stick with just the juice for now.. once she finds something to her standards, then work on equipment..
if and when she is willing and ready, she will do it without noticing ;) it does happen..

Since she is driving a truck I will have to lead with the old adage "Don't Drip and Drive".

Now that I have that out of my system....

When I first started vaping I was smoking those dreadful $0.99 a pack little menthol cigars AND I was tearing the filters off of them!

I started with 36mg of nic and I was using the cigalikes.

I would start the day with few of the stinkies then switch back and forth with vaping during the day and normally have a stinkie right before bed.

Over the next couple of weeks I found myself smoking less and vaping more until about the beginning of week three I just did not want the stinkies anymore and the rest is history.

Based on what you said, this approach might work for her as well so just go ahead and tell her it is OK to cheat when she feels the need and is not in the truck!

Get her the high octane E-Liquid. If she likes menthol get her some of that flavor. I also enjoy Jungle Juice from Bulk E-Juice. Smoke makes a nice VW device called the Groove 2 and I might also suggest a Kanger Protank 2 with a pack or two of replaceable heads.

That combination should be enough to wean her away from smoking and when the time comes she can gradually reduce the nic level in her liquids.

Just don't pressure her to quit all at once.

Im not sure if youre familiar with swedish snus, but i was doing that before vaping. And that stuff is insanely high in nicotine, so high that some folk who smoke two packs a day get literally sick from just one portion. And i was using two at a time, so that makes it 2 x 24mg of nicotine per hour. Only time i didnt use was asleep. I started with Nautilus Mini and Smok SID with 36mg nic. After that, i got my first rebuildable, Big Buddha, and had to drop down to 6mg. Now im using 3mg liquids in every device and every setup, but i do tend to chain vape at home. I could just stop cold turkey, but i just like vaping too much :D This is now one of my hobbies.

Yes. its the fiddling part that she dosnt get . If she was a guy, Ide say she was a caveman when it comes to details. she wants a device that stays the same all the time. same strength, same pull, rock solid construction. There isn't much to a cigarette that can go wrong. Light it backwards, and just grab another. I don't think a dripper is for her.
@UncleRJ, She does like my istick and nautilus mini. She's been a Over The Road driver for 7years, then chip hauler for VCT for 7. I fear she would get fed up with keeping up with not letting the juice get low, changing burnt coils, and charging the batteries when everything is still ok. Ive been trying to teach her on these things, but....And I know she doesn't want to quit, and when I just leave her alone, she bitches and wines about how she has to quit, so when I keep track of her, and she has me hide her smokes, she's a wreak.
I also suggest she smoke in the morning to jump start the day, vape in truck, and smoke rest of the day. but after a 14hr work day (dot limit), vaping dosnt do it for her.
I don't care if she smokes or not, other than her health, I don't mind. Its her employer that's pushing the drivers to not smoke in these new trucks. Im just trying to get her going.

I was a heavy smoker.
I can only offer what works for me.
I use a Sig 100 watt V2.
Topped with a KangerTech Aero V2 with a 2 puffs drip tip (with airhole).
I run MAXIMUM air on that puppy.
My watts are 10-11 watts on the mod.
1.5 ohm coils.
24 nic juice.

Lasts me and lasts me.

Airflow and nic level are UBER important to me.

It's hell to quit while your driving. Been there done that not everyone understands the stress a driver is under.

yes. driving is tough when your trying to quit. I quit cold turkey in 99 for 13 years, and was a tire delivery driver then. Now that Im stuck in a building, following break times, its easier to get thru the day than if I had to go by my own schedule.
Who did you drive for?

When I was over the road I think I drove for all the outlaw Chicken Haulers in Northwest Arkansas .LOL Spent 90% of my time in the left lane and the other 10% tryin to get back over there. I'm driving local for an end dump company here in Tulsa now. Alliance Transportation.

I dont want to advocate to any specific company or devices.

But you have options to help her, if she is willing to *try* them.

An Istick set to 3.7 - 4.0 volts, and a couple (4-8) Kanger T3'D tanks, and a couple bottles of whatever flavor, high nicotine juice she likes. Fill them up and turn her loose in the truck. The Istick can be used as a passthrough, so she can keep it charged while driving. Those little Kanger tanks are about as reliable as we can get. and I suggested a couple, that way, if something would happen to one as she's going along, its really easy to unscrew the not working / empty one, and screw on a new one...and bam....she's back up and running in 15 seconds. The coils are relatively cheap, and as simple as screwing them on and off, when they go bad. Which can be done almost anywhere, and she could refill the tanks at the same time.

I have several EVOD's (cheap vape pens) and I have one of those in my bag at all times, regardless of which of my primary's I have with me, in case of a coil failure or some other unforeseen problem, I have something to keep me going until I can get somewhere to fix it.

Keeping it simple, sounds like it might help her the best.

ok. Today I just baught her a istick, vanilla icecream, menthol, strawberry, and watermelon. and a aspire K1, and a aspire ets. I think the vanilla is terrible, tastes like a eraser to me, but she likes it. most fit in the little kit purse that came with the I stick. The long battery life should last her a few days, so the charge cable stays home.
So as per odian's suggestions, she will have both tanks filled before takeoff, a couple extra coils. and a pack of smokes for out of the truck.
I don't see a way to lock the controls on the I stick. Right now ive got her's set the same as mine. 3.5 volts, and 6 watts. 1.9 ohm coils. Ide like to lock hers so that she dosnt have to fiddle with it. grab-n-go.
we wil see how it goes next week.
New heater in my Dempsey tank. jack looks better already. looks lonely though 8(

She's not ready to quit bro. Just that, she's not ready. You can't force this. I wish sometimes I could get some of my friends to quit for a month so their taste buds awaken and they could revel in the wonderful eliquid tastes that most of us experience. But they have to be willing to take the plunge. Just like most of us had no idea how bad we smelled as smokers, current smokers have no clue that there really is a better way. All I can say is take a more passive approach and don't be judgmental with her smoking, she has to come o the conclusion that a better way exists. It just can't be forced.

You can be a positive role model in a passive way though. Continue vaping, enjoy long walks that used to leave you wheezing (and try and get her to go along even though she will wheeze a bit). Start cooking things flavorful that you really enjoy now that you have your taste buds back. These are the positive reinforcements that will slowly sink in that make her want to give vaping a second look. There are myriad ways that you can show, without saying, that vaping has greatly enhance your life over smoking that will at some point sink in and become obvious to her. Above all, don't push... just show. It's her decision. But you do have the ability to show her a better way. No smoker likes to be told to quit, trust me I know. A mule will pull a cart if it wants to, but you'll never force it to.

Good for you Angus. Quitting is a personal battle and the best you can do is support her, which it sounds like you're doing. Another thing to remember is that a lot of vapers started as dual users smoking and vaping. Every time she vapes she doesn't smoke and that's a good thing, but taking a bit of time in the transition and still smoking is not necessarily a bad thing. Tons of people have quit that way and been very successful. I think you are doing exactly as you should and being supportive. A little push now and then can help, just don't push too hard. Good on ya bro, just give the little nudges when you can and I'd be surprised if in 6 months she doesn't quit somking.

Why not keep some NJOY close by for that hard nic hit she may need until finding suitable gear she can enjoy. NJOY is high in nic and I just can't imagine her not feeling it. They're so strong it makes me dizzy. No ego mods needed, just go with one of these new small box mods for around $40, a small tank and a high nic turkish tobacco blend. She'll feel it's the best cig she ever tasted.

Only tobacco extracts worked for me (NET's). I haven't had the urge to smoke since - 18 months ago. It wasn't just the nicotine either or the fruit and dessert flavors would have worked.

With helping more than a few former smokers make the vaping transition I find very few really benefit from fruit or dessert favors until they get a month or so away from cigs. So I agree with you Real, tobacco flavors or NETs can be a big help in vapers that haven't developed taste buds yet (taste buds are functionally dead for the first month or so after quitting cigs) and need something strong and familiar to help the transition. Good advice.

I did 24mg menthol for a couple months before any other flavors. I never smoked menthols, but chose menthol for exactly what you say-familiarity.
Wife tried my menthol, but couldn't hold in in. cough cough cough. She wanted to try vanilla, so that's where she started.
Time will tell. I only hit my menthol at work now. makes me jumpy out of work.

update.
She has learned to charge/refill on her own. and really digging it. She even did a little research on vaping.
She tells me without me asking that she had a couple smokes, and says it like she is in trouble. I just tell her I did the same(and I did). its no big deal. I told her today, one day you will just not want a smoke, Might not even remember when the last one was, and if that day never happens and you smoke and vape, that's ok, too. just replaceing a couple smokes with vaping is better than all smokes. Then I grab her rig and start puffin away at her yummy vanilla cupcake, "HEY!! GET YER OWN CUPCAKES!!"
ftw. update in another week.

She is still so very clumsy with it all. But that aside, I got 100ml of 50/50 from evape.us, and now she is having a heavy feeling in her lungs. Can vg do that? should she stick to all pg? she did fine with that. She's still smoking ana l logs still
The clumsiness showed up when she unscrewed the kanger mini tank v2 , and unscrewed the wrong part. 1ml of juice poures out when the glass separated from the tip. oops. I tried not to get upset, but Ive shown her many times. She was using a aspire et-s, but it started leaking very bad. We might have to revisit that one.

well combined with the years of tar and shit from cigs the heavy feeling should abate.
Switch her to a higher pg juice, lighter in flavor for a while and see if that helps clear it up.
Water, water and yep more water... when she is tired of water more water... Get up and move, start getting some action going, ride a bike get to breathing hard that shit should come up in buckets.

Yes, absolutely VG can do that to some people. I can't vape higher VG than 25%, and that can still make me cough.
