Meredith and David Finch have had a shaky start on their Wonder Woman ongoing. The title character, once so powerful and confident, has been shattered. The writing and art have improved recently, both the character and her illustrated figure have regained some of their formidability. But that reborn confidence comes with a bunch of new problems.

The biggest problem with the feature story of this issue is that all the events happen too easily. On one hand, she and the Justice League are dealing with some cavern-dwelling aliens that have caused thousands of deaths. On the other, her Amazonian sisters have slaughtered their brothers. In both cases, the idea that Wonder Woman can play peace-keeper is nice, but poorly executed. Much of the climax of the story hinges on a short speech Wonder Woman gives. It’s so clunky, and the effect it has is so immediate and powerful that it borders on laughable. “And just like that…it was finished”. What?! How? Why? It’s an unbelievable and unearned turn.
