The quarterfinals of the 2015 League of Legends World Championship are set. Of the eight teams making their way into the knockout stage of the tournament, three are Korean, two are European, two are Taiwanese, and one hails from China. Note someone missing? Thanks to an 0-10 week from the North American squads, the dream of apple pie sitting atop the Worlds podium is over.
The question remains: Who will rise to the top?
After their 2-1 start, hopes were riding high on CLG making their way to the quarterfinals. Then Week 2 happened. After going down to Korea’s KOO Tigers in the first match of the day, they never quite found their footing again, going 0-3 during the week and dropping out of the tournament. Thanks to impressive play from GorillA’s Tahm Kench, CLG couldn’t shake the nightmare of the toad champion’s Abyssal Voyage dropping fed members of KOO into the middle of their team, demolishing their health bars in the process. KOO ended up finishing 4-2 in groups, advancing to play fellow Korean squad KT Rolster in the quarterfinals.
