Director Paul Feig is getting set to go into production on his Ghostbusters reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Saturday Night Live stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. It was recently revealed that production would be commencing in Boston, which surprised some fans of the original.
New York served as - essentially - a fifth Ghostbuster in the original film, so when we sat down with Ghostbusters director Paul Feig recently to talk about his new movie Spy, we asked if Boston would serve the same function in the new film.
"Oh no, it takes place in New York," Feig assured. "We're just shooting mostly in Boston. The original Ghostbusters shot mostly in LA and then they went to New York and shot some exteriors, so that's basically what we'll be doing too. It just comes down to money and our budget is so high that we need the tax incentive that Massachusetts provides."
