I thought I'd make a thread about the Themis mesh deck version. I'm sure some of you have one. Maybe we could bounce ideas around. How do you like it? Have you had trouble? Did ya get it performing at a high level?
I've had mine a long time. I used the KA1 mesh that was provided. I watched the DsLbJ video where he suggests using half of onevof the provided strips. So I did that and wicked it at a novice level. It vaped okay not good or great. I couldn't use it over 50W. Actually 42-45W was about the sweet spot. After a while I started getting burnt hits. Burnt hits, not dry hits. Hot mesh hits aren't fun.
I tried another way of doing the mesh. The first time I uaed it rounded. The second time I pressed down on the mesh like borat did in his video review. The vape sucked. I didn't persist and parked it.
Around Black Friday I got a roll of Vandy Vape Kanthal Mesh. I didn't use it until tonight. The Profile has gained in popularity and with it a lot of tips and techniques. With that in mind I decided to give the Themis a go. The VV mesh is a little too wide so I had to shave off a little the long way. Lengthwise I used more than what I used before. I used an old strip to measure and made it a couple of mm longer. I clamped both sides in place and got a 6mm id Wotofo laced strip. Before I was leaving one side unclamped. This time I just laced it strait through. I had to twist the cotton "rope" to compress it enough to fit through. It seemed perfect, nice and snug (like the profile suggestions.)
Once I got the mesh and cotton in place it was time to stuff the ends in the wicking ports. I did the 45° angle trick I've seen people do for the Profile. I also did a side haircut and a comb out. Those 6mm strands are pretty damn thick. After all the trimming the cotton fit nicely where it was supposed to.
The mesh is reading .18Ω and I have the Themis on a Wismec GEN3 Dual. I barely get anything at 45W compared to on the verge of maxing out with the provided digiflavor strips. 55W it starts tasting really good. 65W isn't as much of a jump as I thought it would be. Seems like I bumped it up 5W not 10. Again, 75W it seems like I barely turned it up. The whole time I'm getting awesome flavor but not much clouds. Did I dare go to 85W? Of course I did. Vape is getting warmer now that's a new development. Flavor is superb.
Another thing, I'm taking deep long drags with no worries. Before I was scared of breathing in mesh fire at 50W. I'm currently up to 4 volts and have it set at 88.8W. Did I say how fantastic the flavor is yet? I don't know if I want to push this higher. I'm getting a nice warm flavorful vape but the cloud production is very meager.
I can take some pictures tommorow if anyone cares to see. I highly recommend trying the Vandy mesh. It comes on a roll for fairly cheap IIRC. This stuff out peforms the sample strips that came with the tank. When it comes to mesh, I'm only interested in kanthal.
If you've had troubles, don't give up like I did. This RTA can work well with mesh. I know a lot of people might have said F it, and use it as a single coil deck. I hope some of you have some tips or tricks to share. There's got to be a reason why I'm blowing such thin clouds at damn near 90W. I know that was a lot to read so thank you for your patience. Prisma fun-
