Migrating from ECF (banned..). Hey guys!

Hey guys! I just got banned from ECF (again).. First thread/2nd post here!
I was M_DuBb716 over there.. Started the "Protank Microcoil Discussion" thread, which has just reached 250+ pages.

I was going through a lot of crap this past summer that was beginning to wear on me. I was bored & stupid one day, and decided to try out ECF's live chat. I don't remember what I said, (it was pretty bad, from what I recall), but retired1 banned me for LIFE.
I created another account (Wally, I forgot the numbers after it), and it was quickly banned.

I didn't want to leave this "community" that I felt such a big part of, and loved participating in..

A few weeks later I created a 3rd account (AquaLung22), which just got banned today while I was surfing the forums.. I had this account for a few months before they caught on

I'm really upset, lost such a valuable resource. I've learned so much from the place in my past 2 years of vaping, and have given them a LOT too..
.... BUT I did break their TOS, which I agreed to when registering. I really regret that day. I wish they were a little more lenient, anything less than a permanent ban.

I was about to become a supporting member before the 1st ban; and I'm glad I didn't!! But this really sucks. I was also about to become "Verified", and could really use that "Classifieds" section of the forum that I've heard about right now.
Not to mention all the great people and leaders over there, that I'm now barred from. (Glad I made the 2nd/3rd accounts, and got my buddies contact info before this ban.) That's the worst part, getting booted from the actual community..


Guess I'll be spending a lot of my nights over here now!

ECF's loss is our gain, welcome! ECF's days are numbered because they are ban happy and rather totalitarian in they way they approach and treat their members. They forgot long ago that it's the members that make the forum, not the owners, vendors, or moderators.

LOL, I was there for a year. Things would go okay for a while and I'd be on the brink of donating some money to them when just like that they would do something shitty like delete a post of mine or give me some scolding or ban me for a few days over nothing, often it was just because they took something harmless that I said the wrong way. So then I would be like, I'm not donating any money to this crap. That scenario must have happened at least five times. Glad I never gave them any money.

I've put so much into that place and learned so much in the past 2 years, met so many cool people. I wrote a SUPER long apology after the 1st ban & tried to have it appealed, just to have it thrown back in my face pretty much - they didn't even read it.

I still have an account there AFAIK, it never got banned. But, I just left it back in 2012 and never logged in again.

Still read stuff on there, but that's it.

Well , i have to say i wish Wally could of seen the light and come over here without feeling there was no other worthwhile alternative . This place is not what ECF claims it to be , it's really not.

While there is a lot more freedom over here to be yourself and it's great not having to worry about what you say all the time , it is very far from a lawless mess where people are viciously attacking each other and allowed to do so.

While there are a few "complete wastes of human life here " that clearly warrant relentless attacks (and i mean that in a good way of course) this type of thing is quite uncommon , very uncommon actually .

Your comment about a valuable resource is valid , while this site has been up no where near as long as ECF, of course at this point it will not have as much resources on certain things but it is growing by leaps and bounds every day .

Oh , and don't sweat Retired1 , he regularly bans himself when he can't find anyone else to ban , he may have one or two marbles left but most jumped ship shortly after he joined ECF .

The problem with ECF is they have clearly forgotten what made them so successful in the first place and they aren't even bright enough to recognize it . Thats why they are declining and VU is rising.

If your not convinced yet listen to this , we all know ECF will ban you for life if you curse right ? Let me answer that , why yes , that is correct .

Um, yea. Now all I gotta do is find a way to flush my mind out. I think I'll add a Butch-T Trinidad to my Hoppin' John tonight. My family tradition is to eat Hoppin' John on the 1st and 2nd of the new year. Simple Recipe and so easy to make:

1 LB. black-eyed peas
1 onion, chopped
1 lb. lean salt pork
2 qts. boiling water
1 c. raw rice, cooked separately
fresh jalapeno or other hot pepper. Dried can be used, rehydrate prior to cooking

Wash the black-eyed peas, soak overnight in cold water or boil them 2 minutes and soak 1 hour or longer. Drain well, put peas in a large pot, add boiling water, onion, salt pork and seasoning. Simmer, covered for 2 hours or until peas are very soft, adding water as needed. Cook rice until dry and fluffy. Add cooked rice to cooked peas in a pot. Simmer gently until all liquid is absorbed.

i too had an experience on the IRC channel with the guy you mentioned & was pretty blown away at how fast the other members on the chat joined right in condemning my choice of speech, too. I was totally new there and I mentioned something about a) a vendor I had just been checking out--that was my first mistake-- and then b) *gasp* the fact that this vendor offered caffeine shots in his juice. I mentioned it as a curiosity, in a purely conversational way--and got jumped all over. NO DRUG TALK! (Really?)

Never went back. Kind of a shame, because, hey--IRC is fun!
(Is there an IRC channel for VU? There should be!)

The ironic part is that the spirit/social climate of IRC is--or at least has traditionally been--totally the opposite of all that rigitidy and stick-up-the-buttness, right?

How do i know , all you had to do was follow the links members provided here on this forum about what they were saying . They said VU is low class and trash and it's good they didn't stoop to our level , i can find the link if you wish.

Welcome! I'm new here also, I was never a member of ECF, but I know firsthand at how a forum can crumble when it has moderators who feel they are God and can do what they please. What I notice is the people who contributes the most to the forum are the ones who get banned and leave. Still not knowing a bunch about what happened but I do like to read. It would seem that most of the knowledgeable vapors are on here now so you really aren't missing much.

I'm just glad I found this place before I found the other one.

If it makes you feel any better I made it all of 7 weeks on that forum before my first and last permaban...you'll find that the decorations here are much more casual and the people are much more friendly now that they can relax and speak their minds a little without fear of the ban-axe...I am sure you'll love it just fine.

Hm..yeah. Thank you for posting the link, VH. I voted in that survey and I'm not surprised the ECF thread discussing it is closed. Over there, it seems like topics that might tend to be controversial or inflammatory in any way get shut down pretty quickly. I thought I had read that if a thread went idle for a certain period of time, that would be the criterion for closing it. But I've seen many exceptions to this, where threads go idle for months and remain open--as well as threads like the one linked above, where someone arbitrarily decided there need be no more discussion on the topic.

I've actually noticed a fair amount of quick-shit down of health and safety related threads--which are really important for the vaping community to be discussing. Despite the fact that they allow a forum dedicated to these issues, and so it is officially a topic "fit for public conversation", I get the impression that on ECF it's almost discouraged to bring up health and safety concerns around vaping. If my impression of the reasons these threads get sort of cut off at the knees is accurate, then the mods over there are being childish and counter-productive, really, because in the bigger picture, it's crucial that vapers themselves be the ones on top of these issues rather than letting others--or primarily the giant BT owned concerns--set the agenda for research and subsequent regs.

At one point over there, I wanted to discuss the censorship issue (I forget waht the context was) and was pretty much immediately told to shut it. I asked where was the appropriate context to discuss the issue of censorship, since CLEARLY (I thought) the place couldn't be such a dictatorship that there wasn't some place for members to grouse openly and discuss the policies. Right? Wrong! The mod gave me a link in answer to my question which I thanked her for before I realized that it was nothing but a link to address the mods in PM--not a public forum at all! Gross. left a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, no matter how aggravating all that is, much more important than petty issues of which is the better vaping forum is that vapers recognize they have more in common than they do differences.
I mean, all kinds of people vape, sure, but a hell of a lot of us are more or less "middle/working class" people (or what used to be the middle class when the economy worked) and used to be smokers.
This is the group that, as everyone knows, big tobacco, big pharma and the government have all been happily exploiting for years--and expected to be able to continue to do so forever & ever. Vaping has not only seriously disrupted that economic flow, it has resulted in a community that didn't previously exist. A community --as opposed to individual, atomized smokers being isolated and awarded social pariah status WHILE being soaked for dollars!!-- has a voice. Or at least the potential for one.

It was okay when ECF was accusing VU of cheating, the thread stayed open, but then when someone came in and said ECF lost because of the behavior of the mods, the comments were deleted and the thread locked down.

It was okay when ECF was accusing VU of cheating, the thread stayed open, but then when someone came in and said ECF lost because of the behavior of the mods, the comments were deleted and the thread locked down.

Yes, I noticed this too. My God , is that what they claim , that is mind boggling .
