Looks like Facebook is at again almost a year ago they did this and now they are doing it again. I am one of the unlucky who has gotten the infamous we require your government. ID msg when trying to log in. Ummm how about NO. The best part is they are saying i am under 13 on an account i made in 2009... so now they think 5-6 year old kids ( the account is 6 years old so for me to be under 13 i would have had to join when i was 6 or 5 as it will be 7 years in a 2 more months ) are joining facebook lol. This is nothing but a sad ploy to try to get peoples ID shame on them. Ohh and if you try to reason with them they will just lock your account outright .

If one is locked out of their FB account, all they have to do is have a code sent to their mobile...

facebook is now doing identity checks and they all involve id of some kind
What types of ID does Facebook accept?
You can confirm your identity in 1 of 3 ways. When submitting documentation, please cover up any personal information we don't need to verify your identity (ex: credit card number, Social Security number). We encrypt people’s connections to Facebook by default, including IDs you send to us. We delete your ID information after verification is complete.

Baloney. Once the info is transmitted and stored on a computer, it's backed up, sent to the internal FB cloud, et cetera. Facebook has been a big brother tool since it became popular.

I don't use facebook, so I don't really care.

This is a scam. They run rampant on Facebook all the time. Facebook will never ask for personal information to be verified through physical, hard copy "proof" of anything. Report it as a scam or spam. And NEVER give out personal information of any kind.
I thought this was common knowledge....

this is not a scam or some phishing attempt my account is actually locked out by facebook themselves and they have been doing it a lot lately and even have a FAQ on what types of ID to use etc

Yeah, cuz I'd want somebody like FB, with their exemplary privacy record, to have my mobile number

You have to watch snopes they have been caught in some lies for the liberal government.
No, they have not. That is a myth promulgated by right-wing nut-jobs that can't distinguish the difference between true liberal bias and non-right-wing-nut-jobbery. It's just like how liberals can't distinguish the difference between conservative bias and non-left-wing-nut-jobbery.

Liberals the biggest Idiots I have ever herd of. They support the government agenda of a one world order, they support abolishing guns, they support bringing criminals to our country, they support socialism, they support that crazy political correctness. All this amounts to is government control over you it's just as simple as that. So don't give me that right wing nut job crap. What I wrote here is about as nut job as it gets. America was the greatest country in the world till we let Obama and his crazy "Change" come into the picture.

People claiming Snopes are propagandists for the liberal left and tools of liberal elements in the government are promulgating right-wing-nut-jobbery. Such assertions have been discredited numerous times.

Ask Factcheck: Snopes.com
Snopes, “Liberal Bias,” and Trusting the Internet
Snopes Exposed? Snopes Got 'Snoped'? Not So Much
Snopes.com is a secret tool of the Democratic Party to promote Barack Obama- Fiction!

However: Feel free to keep believing and promulgating the right-wing-nut-job allegation that Snopes are tools of the left wing. At least, that way, people will know who they're dealing with :)

This is why I don't mess with Facebook. It's a time drain anyway, only useful if you're making money with it.

Then don't complain about their policies...
Where did I complain about their policies?

I haven't decided, yet, whether @stevegmu is a troll or just has exceedingly poor reading comprehension.

Let's find out, shall we, gentle readers?

@stevegmu: Let me break it down for you such that you cannot possibly miss or misstate the point I made:
  1. Individual complained about getting locked-out of Facebook
  2. You suggested they share their mobile number with Facebook, to solve the problem
  3. I suggested that might not be a particularly great idea, given Facebook's notorious reputation, vis-a-vis member privacy
Nowhere did I suggest anybody was being forced to use FB. Nowhere did I complain about their policies.

Your turn. You can either:
  1. Admit you entirely missed or misunderstood my point, or
  2. Admit you're a troll

You don't want them to have your phone number, don't use FB. It is their policy for questionable accounts to verify identity with an ID or mobile number...

The implication, one would think, being pretty clear.

So... still undecided, but I'm kind of leaning toward "troll..."

policy

this is what facebook said when i emailed them about it

Your account has been deactivated until we can verify your age. We do this because Facebook follows the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which requires everyone who has a Facebook account to be at least 13 years old.

Please help us verify your age by sending us one of the following:

- A government-issued ID that shows your name and date of birth.

- 2 different forms of ID that both show the same name. Additionally, one of the IDs must include a photo or date of birth that matches the information on your profile.

- If you don’t have an ID that shows your authentic name as well as your photo or date of birth, you can provide 2 forms of ID that show your authentic name, and then provide a government ID that includes a date of birth or photo that matches the information on your profile.

If possible, please save the file(s) as a JPEG and cover up any personal information that we don't need to verify your identity (ex: address, license number).

Learn more about the types of ID we accept in the Help Center:

yes it is funny how you focused on that and not the fact that a website wants government issued ID to prove your identity just for use . hell this is more security than purchasing with a credit card online lol. ohh and i was looking through the facebook help center and they have an option to request your data and it also asks for government issued ID and at the bottom you have to agree that ,
Please provide a copy of your government-issued, photo ID. This ID must:

  • Be government-issued (ex: passport, drivers license)
  • Clearly show your name, picture, and birthday
  • Be in color

Please cover up any personal information we don't need to verify your identity (ex: address, license number). Learn more about why we require a copy of your ID and what types of ID we'll accept.
By submitting this notice, you represent and declare under penalty of perjury that all of the information you submit is true and accurate.

I've been on FB since when it was limited to those with a university e-mail address. Never been asked to prove my age or identity. Seems those who have, have been flagged for a reason. It isn't random...

i have also been on facebook since it started when you needed a .edu email to register .

you may not understand this but once more i will try to say it.
it is a NEW facebook policy they actually put it in place jan 2015 but due to backlash they backed off and now seem to have instituted them again.

Perhaps for new members, but you must have triggered an alert and investigation which prompted FB to ask for verification...

yet again read the first post this account has been active since 2009.
or maybe just maybe someone decided to troll me and report me for no reason triggering this event.

Since it is not a new account and the policy is for new members or those suspected of false identity, you must have raised a flag to get asked for proof of identity...

Believe what you will, I've had friends with poor privacy settings that have suffered the same dilemma. Some of them were sent requests to change their user names, as the ones they had were in "violation" of so-called "policy." Whatever entity has taken over your account has undoubtedly created a new one, likely complete with your profile pic, and is sending out friend requests as we type. No one is ever asked to verify their age or even existence with hard copy.
Except you, of course.

I think as long as there are good looking chicks here (there's a few) he'll be

Opening a thread and finding that steve has posted in it is like opening an egg carton and finding chicken shit on an egg. You can wash it off and use it if you're interested enough in the topic, you can close it and consider the whole batch ruined or sometimes I like to just huck the shitty egg against a rock shattering it's weak shell.
