That's what it did, though! I froze in awe of it. I had to take a minute to stare at the empty roll and let it all sink in. It literally took flight.
Not sure if anyone knows the sound and feeling but when you snap the blade on a bandsaw! Froze in awe made me have a flash back!

Haha, so like this? (skip to 1:25)
Sounds about right.
2x22K/.5 Ribbon (K) Fused Clapton
I've been wanting to do one of those, but last time I tried, I sliced my finger open on the ribbon wire.

I actually did it just like making normal fused claptons with swivels and holding the spool around 6 inches away and let it wrap itself....Its a bit trickier then doing round wire because it really likes to wrap over itself instead of side by side but once you got it go as fast as your drill can go and it will wrap nicely...just keep up because the ribbon flies up the wire as it takes up more surface area.

I did a single coil in the TM Mini rda and I only have it @ 75w and its pretty amazing.

Thankfully we never broke the blade on our big dog like that. I snapped the blade of a vertical bandsaw. With the nice .5 wide blade that when it snaps it sounds like Bruce Lee swinging nunchuks in your face. You basically hit the floor and check you pants. Then asses equipment damage! Hah

Oh, indeed. One reason I haven't bought ribbon is I see all the horror pictures of people slicing up them digits... No way! I'll perfect the alien first.

Holy crap. whoever invented the staggered fused clapton, THANK YOU!!! just finished building a few of them and they are by far the best things i have ever done. still perfecting the techniques but it creates an awsome vaping experience on both the single coil at 65 watts or the dual coil at over 100watts. best coil ive done to date.

Dont forget to breathe! Steady your breathing before you start your alien wrap, it helps you to keep track of your wrap as well as keeps you from getting ptfo when you hit a snag

It sounds like your teaching someone how to shoot not build coils but yea I breathe like I'm shooting when I build usually. No caffeine on build days either.

I used 6 0.8mm kanthal ribbon core, 2 26g kanthal frame and 36g kanthal Clapton. Came out to about 0.16 ohms.

I haven't worked with .8mm but I do have .5mm. Same principle as higher gauge wire, the smaller the width the higher the resistance. A .4 or .5 might allow you to stack that many or more sheets in a dual coil setup without fear of going to all that work for no payout. I've had a few that were just below the firing range of a box...threw it on a mech, squared it up, threw it back on the box and voila! I don't know if that's helpful with my relative inexperience but there it is...

Ahh, yeah that explains it. See, my dumb ass tried to do one as an afterthought after spending what must've been two hours twisting up regular fused claptons. I don't like setting up swivels if I don't have to, so I was doing it the old fashioned way... ...that is, the classic pinch n' drill. I was just in the mode to do it that way when I picked up the ribbon... ...didn't even occur to me that it might catch my finger if I just pinched it and pulled the trigger. As soon as I got it into a groove and sped up, it dug right in. Not surprised it happened - I basically had the edge pushed perpendicularly up to my skin. Not my proudest moment.

When I sit down to make it for real, I'm definitely gonna break out the swivels, haha.

Oh, indeed. One reason I haven't bought ribbon is I see all the horror pictures of people slicing up them digits... No way! I'll perfect the alien first.
Haha, it's really not that bad. I only got sliced because I wasn't thinking. Ribbon wire has such a fine edge that you don't feel much pain. It's not as bad as a paper cut. It didn't register to me that it was digging into the callus until it started bleeding. I was more pissed that I couldn't do any serious coiling for a couple of days than I was hurting.

So do I HAVE to do 3 cores for my alien? It doesn't make a difference making it... But it does determine if I can put this build on my Noisy Cricket... If I go 3 strands it would IPV only..

I have seen dual 24g core aliens but that probably won't help the resistance problems. As long as the cores are 3 times the size of the first Clapton wrap it should work.

I was thinking of 30g then 26 since .255x3=.765 and .405x2=.810. Should be close enough. And don't judge that I have wire diameter memorized lol

And on another note I'm working in frameing 4x34 with 28 and fusing it with 36. Hopefully this works out for me

Good tip, if I ever get my desk setup to build inside out of the cold I'll do some experimenting with two core aliens. Itd be alot faster to crank out builds for people.

I build at my kitchen table for crazy builds. For simple builds or even fused claptons(getting better with them) I'll sit on the couch with a cheap tv table from wally world.

Im using a Edsal type Shelf System for a Walk In Cubboard...
It was around $50 Shipped and I have many "Work Tables to use and Cargo space on the extras. I installed a Light bar under each of the shelves and each are for my different hobbies...Gun/Ammo, Vape Stuff, R/C and then Cleaning Gear.
This was when I first bought it and used it for my Vape Bench..
WorkBench.jpg

It has places you can attach clamps and places to tie down swivels at any height and more...I love this bench and its pretty damn sturdy....I have atleast 90Lbs in just ammo on the Top Shelf and it doesnt even bow one bit
Normal Config I use and then a different direction you could use it:

yeah, i had tried using 0.4 first for that very reason, but i had so much trouble stacking them that after wasting 30 feet of ribbon i gave up on it. guess i should revisit it. i find im having alot of trouble with ribbon. this is why i need to find someone close to me to hang out and do builds with. reinforcements.

After a long night trying... Still don't have it down. However. I've gotten some lengths none really long enough for a dual coil, or a single coil I'm willing to swap my FCs for..

Progress...

Yeah.. I did wrap one up in the mutation to see if it would even heat evenly (no shorts)

It did.

Learned some things. Some more work on the skills in trying to build I might have something. This alien wire is a bitch. But I'm going to make it my bitch... I just don't know when..

What is a favorite build deck for the TFV4 tank? I got the kit so I have the single coil deck, but have been debating on the dual coil or the clapton deck. Not sure which way to go though. I know there are folks here that rock that deck. I have been using my TFV4 with the triple coil stock coil and liking that pretty well.. haven't tried anything other coils, but liking the tank so I want to know what my best option would be for it.

TF-R2 is my favorite but I havent tested the TF-R3 yet..Tbhe TF-R2 even with a simple 6 Wrap/2.5mm Diameter 22g build is extremely similar to the Quad Coils. Ive built on all the RBAs and I like the RCA and R2, the R2 has the most airflow and easiest to install 2 coils but RCA has the ability to use some wide wire if you remove a screw on each post and can easily accept a vertical build but the coil itself is much smaller then the other RBA's.
TF-R1 builds:
24g Twisted and Helixed with 32g, Spun and Filed and 26g/40g Fused Clapton

Your wraps look good its just your cores aren't staying flat, that's the tough part though imo. I use a paperclip or a small piece of 28-32g wire wrapped around it you can slide down the wire while you wrap

after several more hours this afternoon and another 40' of wasted wire, i finally got enough good alien wire to create a dual coil build at 0.11 ohms. just high enough to fire on my sigelei 150w. watch this post.
pay close attention to how he holds the alien and follow his method for setting the core wires. it made all the difference for my coils today.

What gauge are you wrapping with? You might not have it stretch enough if your using a lower gauge. Also I have the paperclip about an inch or maybe less in front of the wrap.

After seeing this, I'm dicing on that r2. I didn't know they released an r3 into the wild. I will have to check that out too. Probably going to pick up the r2 if it has the best airflow. That is normally my biggest gripe with RBA's... no airflow = no bueno!

Thanks for the thoughts and especially the build pics!

I originally wanted to do a 2 core alien with this but didnt like how uneven the wrap was so i just did a fc but this is a 2x33/38 fc core fused with 38. At 5 wraps and 3mm id this thing comes out to .54 ohms. No flavor really in the mutation which was disappointing but the 28/40 fc's i pulled out to put these in were the same story so i dont know if its the mxv4 that just hates fc's or what. Does anyone else have lackluster performance issues with bottom airflow attys and fc's?

Well... I built this turd last night in my double vision...

30x 40k twisted core, framed with 26 and wrapped with 40k.

I should have waited on wrapping this and I did it quickly and didn't pay attention... didn't keep the wraps flat. So tonight, I will uncoil this and then flatten with my nylon pliers, and the take my time wrapping again. 5 wraps on each side brought this to .14 hitting it the way it is isn't as bad as I thought it would be. 120w coursing through it and it is giving good flavor and a good warm foggy vape. I am looking forward to seeing how it vapes after fixing the wraps.

I am damn impressed with that Ribbon Fused Clapton and it got my thinking of a Dual Coil - Framing 2x22g with the .5 Ribbon and then Fusing it with the Ribbon...then Im throwing it in the Griffin! Should be nice but we'll see, the single coil was a beast at 100w in the Twisted Messes Mini and its still shiny (Ive been using it nonstop since I made it..)
