Long-time(since 2009) member'suddenly' posted a mini-pimp touting Joe's blog on the Deals & Steals thread at ECF yesterday. It actually lasted a little longer than I expected (more than a couple of minutes) but it got mod-quashed; gone today. It was tasty while it lasted.

Neither do I. I have never seen a ecf link (here at VU) deleted. I know it's rare but sometimes one is posted.

There is certainly a great deal more freedom here and most of us, being responsible adults, choose not to abuse it. Oh, sure, there was that one time I went running naked through the forums but I promised I wouldn't do it again after @Huckleberried puked on Joe's shoes.

At VU, we've got nothing to hide and nothing to prove.

Or, as Zamazam would put it, "What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal"

I go there for the updated info on HotRod's eJuice Calculator program, otherwise VU is my home.

Sure will if I "see" her. I don't make it over to the undead forum much myself. :D

Braaaaaaaaaaaaaains! They need braaaaaaaaains!

I humbly apologize for that season reference. Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Is "Suddenly" not a member here? The name seems familiar, and not on a blue page.

Sorry... no.

it's far, far more active than this board. And having a larger UK/EU contingent, it's active 24/7, unlike the major slowdown here during the overnights. And their technical knowledge is certainly not second to members here. Go read the TC Wire thread.

They do get proportionately more beginners though, with that many more risky "can I do ... ?" posts.
They're more politely helpful there, whereas we tend to just bring down the boot of ridicule. :p

Different strokes.

There's nothing wrong with being able to type any fucking thing I want here.
Just as there's nothing wrong with being language filtered there.
Stasi style moderation on the other hand... :(

But don't call it "dead".

Is there another forum called ECF?

I'm not one of the haters or the huge "banned" contingent, I drifted here of my own accord (and never imagined I'd end up on staff, especially given how that's worked on the other BBSes I've been called on to mod/admin). And I'll say that ECF certainly has its place - I was there literally for years until VU came around.

But are they really "more politely helpful" to noobs? Do we really encourage "bring[ing] down the boot of ridicule?" I haven't been there in ages, and honestly I'm not even sure if I'm banned or not (I used the same handle there as here my second go-round with vaping), but one of the big draws for me here was my perception that we're noticeably more welcoming to beginners...

That said, different strokes indeed. I'm happy right the fuck where I am, but those more timid when it comes to grown-up language mustn't necessarily eat a dick if they prefer a different environment. The mothership is still there...

I gotta tell ya, I've NEVER been treated better as a noob than here.

I first came here when I made the the switch from the V2 cigalike to an ARO VV eGo style twist. I had been vaping for only about a month. Every noob question (and I've had many) has been answered with nothing but helpful answers from the fine folks on this forum. Seriously. I've only been a member for six months, but have learned an incredible amount of vaping knowledge here. I'm making all my juices now, and am starting to learn advanced coil builds because of what I've learned here.

One of the finest things I've heard is from Zamazam in this thread
You've simply become an "Advanced User". Welcome to the fold Brother!

IMHO, You guys are the best of the best.

Well. it's been a few years since I was a "Noob" but I certainly am a recovering DIYer (recovering from failure) and have been treated well by all here imbued with the knowledge that I sorely lack.

On the other hand, my eyesight and dexterity have thus far disallowed me winding my own coils and that crowd has shit in my mess kit more than a couple of times. ;)

Therein is an example of a jest that would earn the boot "elsewhere." Yeah, I like it here just fine, thank you.

ECF is dead. Their active member count versus registered accounts hovers between 5-8% actively posting. That's a dead forum. My gaming forum that has less than 100 members is more active than ECF, proportionately. ECF is riding on the coattails of site age and Google ranking. Because they were the first major vaping forum, Google still considers ECF an authority site. However, that is slowly dwindling away. VU already outranks them in organic search, which is pretty impressive considering VU's site age.

ECF is paying to play the search game, which is the only reason new people even land there at all. Most of them will give up before they're removed from the newbie section and allowed to post with everyone else. Some of those will inevitably be banned within a few months. That leaves precious few new members left who have the potential to become longtime contributors to the forum.

It's more than just different strokes. ECF effectively moderated themselves out of business.

I'm of the it's right nobility. Political views are best vented by old people with lots of money. I'm not one. I question everything. I only go on the data I can acquire. Not perfect, but it works. Some clown says his candidate is the best, I say Right.

Im still new to the vaping forum, but personally when I joined just recently I had the choice in the two forums and after reading posts on either decided to choose VU, I feel like you guys are alot more welcoming to new vapers.

I have lurked at ECF mostly for the squonking threads but I still haven't made a post the 5 post thing is more annoying than anything but every forum has ways to deal with spammers so whatever.

When I searched vaping forums I believe this was first on the list due to the name and I tend to try to stay on one forum per interest, it's easier that way.

I'm a member of both places. I've never had problems at either. I started there, got super busy with a move, then work. When I came back I noticed a lot of the people I use to talk to had migrated here, so here I am. I've never understood the fanboy type of comments. I can like one place or thing without feeling the need to run the other place/thing down in order to make myself feel better. I think both places have a lot to offer. Reminds me of the Sega/Nintendo fanboy arguments I use to hear. We are the best, no we are, etc, etc, etc. I liked them both and thought one was better for some types of games, the other for other types of games. To me it was best to have both!

Cheers,
Steve

At one time I was a member there too, I didn't like the moderators at all. The moderators we have on the Underground are the best there is. They are what makes this forum the awesome forum that it is

Hey, Steve. My story is much like your own; I was never even chastised at ECF and while I'm still a member, I've become an inadvertent non-contributor as most of my time is spent here. They are conservative at ECF, no doubt, and continue to make additions to an already convoluted rule book (see Chapter 4, Amendment B6, subsection 12a for details).

And the moderators here blend seamlessly with the community, gently nudging members who may be spiraling into impropriety. All of them are great, except @Whiskey, of course, a witch who's iron fist is driven by the power which has obviously gone to her head.

Oh, hello Mistress W. I didn't see you there. Oh, yes, I'll continue washing; just let me know when your feet are sufficiently clean. That remark above? Obviously someone hacked my VU account ... I have nothing but the deepest respect for you ... no, I don't think another flogging is necessary straighten out my attitude ....

I used to be on ECF. Actually, I just gave up on them earlier today. The last few times I needed to learn something, it took too long to sift through the 80 gazillion contradictory posts and non-answer answers.

So is VU better? I'm really interested to find out. I used to get speedy info from brick-and-mortar vape-shop people... but two of the stores have new employees that only have knowledge up to screwing in pre-made atomizers. The third made it brutally obvious they don't want to talk to me unless I buy something.

Does this mean I just graduated from vape shops... and now have the pleasure of getting beat up here?

I started on ECF, but ended up here because there seemed to be a lot more clear information here.

As a result I haven't even looked at ECF in over a month.

All I can say is that I sense slightly less elitism here than over at ECF. Nobody's tried to painfully convince me of exactly which brand of batteries I need to buy or skimmed through my posts without reading my point to preach ohms law, or chastised me for asking questions about CD ratings and mods/chargers/juice/tanks by replying with a link to something that requires a college level understand of chemistry, physics, and algebra.

Here I get answers to my questions. That and I didn't have to start out in the naughty-corner with all the other bad kids.

I just wrapped up my first foray into permit-level plumbing... code books and all. So yeah, I know what it's like to be in the naughty corner. There was a two-week span where my life felt like the comments section of a YouTube video.

I know that feeling. There's a similar process with the licensing I go through as an operating engineer. 2 to 4 weeks of work, reading a gigantic book cover to cover, quizzing, and falling asleep with the statutes in your hand.

I'm really new here, this forum everybody is helpful and understanding with any noob questions I have had. I don't have a local shop "close" to me, I'd have to get a ride 30-45 minutes away. I'm very thankful for this forum. There is so many things to learn and everything is explained. I choose to sign up here vs. ETC, since everybody here seems more welcoming.

Well all I gotta say is good job ECF at taking out the trash...never liked that bastard or his funny beard....just between you and me. I think they did it because he was making sexual advances on Classwife....or Roly I forget which.or that he refused to let Untamed Rose root through his garbage cans in the middle of the night.

When I found this forum, it was during a Google search whilst looking for a vaping forum to join. Now, ecf pages have popped up in my searches on specific topics, I read them, apply whatever info I find helpful, and be on my merry way. I can't stand mods who are dicks, so I see no good reason to join ecf. I'll probably get myself banned in a day or possibly even less. I belonged to a forum for motorized bicycles, was repeatedly banned and repeatedly re-joined under different handles. The last time, I finally realized the staff were never going to change and I left on my own. I have not gone back for nearly three months. I just don't want to put myself through that again, so I stayed away from ecf based on what I've heard about the mods there.

I joined ecf when it first started and it USED to be a good place to share vaping info. The problem is the mods aren't getting laid and their being tortured at home for sleeping with that whore ecf. The kids in the naughty corner decided to stay with VU because ecf is a drunken asshole.

I think the thing is that ECF is a european based forum, and as such reflect the PC bootheel of censorship that is accepted in europe, whose laws severly limit the free exchange of ideas, thought , and speech.....as Americans this level of censorship goes against our collective DNA....we don't accept limits on speech and thought like europeans do.....I find even VU restrictive in their censorship.
