First off, I just want to preface this by saying that I'm fully aware that not everyone has the time or patience to learn some of the higher end techniques and coil builds. Also, that I understand that there is nothing wrong with buying pre-made coils or having someone else make coils that you enjoy using that you don't know how to make or don't have the time to build.
The vaping community around where I am isn't exactly huge or booming, so, there aren't a ton of people that I get to chat with about vaping, but I do work with a couple of guys that I get to talk shop with, and one of them was wanting to get his feet wet in the area of tube mechs (my go to devices). I had an old X1 copper tube mod along with the copper X1 RDA with it in my graveyard and figured since it comes with both a hybrid connection and floating pin connection and the fact that it's a pretty heavy duty mod, I'd let him have it to use so he can try out different things and see what he likes. I had a set of your average alien coils still in it (triple core 26ga Nichrome 80 with 36ga Nichrome 80 decor) and they were still working well, so, I left them in it...gave him the standard talk about the care and use of the tube mod and all that good stuff and told him that I left some coils in it that he might want to try. Today I go to work and he's talking about how much he has enjoyed the mod and especially the coils, and then my heart sank as he asked "Where did you buy them?" As I mentioned at first, I understand that premade coils are gaining traction and I think it's perfectly fine to buy said coils...but the first thing that I remember ever asking if I liked a Coil was "How did you build these?" rather than "Where did you buy these?" I'm not some sort of elitist that thinks you should only use coils you know how to make and have made yourself, but I do take pride in the fact that I know how to build the coils I like to use well, and enjoy building as a hobby moreso than maybe vaping itself and though my coils aren't necessarily "Coil porn", it's still more of an art to me...and having him jump straight to asking where I bought the coils just makes me wonder if the commercial machine isn't starting to chew its way through the vaping world. Even though it's broadening people's horizons, is it starting to change the way folks think of vaping from people modifying existing equipment and making changes and innovating and doing new things on their own, to just things being mass produced and being spit out of an assembly line of machines?
Again...I have nothing against pre-made coils or the people that use them...just seems like some of the magic is disappearing when people are now assuming that a new Coil they see or use was popped out of a machine and came in a pretty box rather than assuming someone spent the time to build it themselves. Sorry, just had to vent a bit!
You're not drinking water are you?! You realize that stuff is found in antifreeze!?!
