I just finished a Dual Clapton build on a CLT v2 and wicked it with ekwool. The center wire is 24 Guage and the outside wrap is 30 Guage kanthal and I built each coil by hand and after installing the coils I got my ohm meter and it came out to 0.2 ohms with dual 5/4 wrap....lol......took me almost half a day but it was well worth it the clouds are gigantic and the flavor is out of this world and the clouds these coils produce is a cloud chasers wet dream. I would have to say it's my best and prettiest build yet.

i have recently done a version called (by twisted messes on youtube) a fused clapton. I used two Gplat 24g wires for the inside and a single strand of .1x.7 kathal ribbon wire for the wrap. Once done i was done I flattened it with pliers and then gently tapped it flat with a hammer. Wrapped 8 coils on a 2.4 screwdriver and put in on my 28.5 Plume Veil (only one with big enough deck and holes for this). It was really low... like .15ohms. Hit it at 60-70 watts on the ipv3. Sort of surpised it wasn't hotter. Cloud was pretty massive but MAN did it go through juice. I also did the same type of coil with kathal round and ribbon and set it up dual. It is sort of fun to try to pull off some of these specialty coils but as far as an every day vape a standard dual coil with 24 or 26 kanthal is fine with me.

Nice. This build I just did has become my everyday vape build it doesn't eat through juice and has amazing flavor and massive clouds. I call that a win win. My next RBA that I buy will be my experimental RBA.

The clt v2 is on my list of next rda's. I love the first version. I wish they did a 28.5mm one. Whoa!
I love new coil set ups - even if they take some time and effort. I just keep wanting to push the envelope for that perfect combination.

Yeah a 26650 CLT version would be nice and lots of room for even more complex builds

is it possible to wrap clapton wire by hand, or is it not even worth it without a drill?

I built my clapton coils by hand without a drill, so that I could ensure a tight wrap

that is great news. im thinking of going with 24g kanthal core and 32g kanthal around it.

    but i do have 24g and 26g nichrome; and 26g, 28g, and 32g kanthal

or maybe i'll go with 26 nichrome core and 28g kanthal around.

is there any rule of thumb as far as choosing when gauges to wrap around which?

No rule of thumb, it depends on your atty, how much ohms you want, and of course personal taste. I did a 24g center and a single wrap of 30 gauge and with doing dual it turned out to be 0.2 ohms and hits all the right spots for my personal taste

cool thx. im aiming for 0.3Ω - 0.5Ω so i think i'll go with 26g kanthal core and single strand 32g kanthal around.
i'll be using a trident in order to have large post openings. its been dumb long since ive rebuilt this thing. wicks gets changed regularly, but the coils themselves are over a year old LOL

I actually built 4 of them using different configurations such as twisted outside of a single which got me to a 4/3 wrap single at 0.2 ohms and I wanted dual because my atty is a CLT v2 and has airflow on both sides that feed the coils directly, so a twisted outside wrap would call for a 5/4 coil wrap and that was too big. I also tried a single dual 24g center and twisted 30g wrap, and the ramp up time was way too long and took forever to cool down, that's when I tried the single 24g center and non-twisted 30g wrap and that made a perfect 5/4 coil that would fit in both sides of my atty to get a 0.2ohm build. It took some trial and error but well worth it in the end
