Hi, I'm still new to all this. Been vaping my istick 40 tc and nautilus mini for 4 months now. Looking at going into RTAs soon, when cash flow allows and when I find the right one.
Feel free to correct me if this is the wrong place for this post.
Like I said, I have the 40w tc and want to start building but have a couple questions that have most definitely been asked but I cannot find the answers.
1. Do ohms law really apply to regulated mods or do only mech users need to really understand it. I have a basic understanding (did quite well in high school physics 10 years ago) of it. My mod changes V on the fly to match watts and resistance.
2. How do I figure out how to build the proper sized coil to match the power available to me. I know that I can turn up my wattage to 40, but that really tells me nothing in relation to how to apply oh s law because I don't know how many volts my mod puts out or the amperage rating for it

Thanks! Vape on

like your avatar...yeah all vapers should understand ohms law or at least be able to use the ohms law calculator.

No, with regulated mod, Ohm's law isn't as important, but still you should understand it. Using an app or steamengine.org is still wise.

Your biggest hurtle will be the 40 watt device. It's not going to be big enough to run an RTA. The mod is the engine being used to power whatever you have on top. Right now you have a Ford Escort, and you want to pull a trailer with it. Unless you are building the RTA at 1.0 ohm, you will not get very good performance from the mod. AND if you are building it at 1.0 ohms, you will not be impressed with the performance of the RTA.

Usually when people move into RDA's/RTA's, they move up to a dual battery mod, with 100+ watts of power.

Ok, that is what I had figured but wasn't sure. Dual battery, you mean unregulated? Or can you still get good performance from the regulated ones? Unregulated kinda freaks me out a bit...lol

Regulated mods work dandy. Most of us use regulated mods.

Just be sure to use GOOD batteries. Lg's or Samsungs. Make sure you ask the forum for advice before you buy them, if you aren't sure about batteries. They have to be "married" to the mod for life.

unregulated mods are nothing to be afraid of..most vapers have used them....it's not rocket science..it all depends on your style of vaping.....the style I vape there is not much advantage to using a regulted mod....besides I'd probablly break the fucking thing.

I'm more into MTL though and would have to take my mod around with me to work and such. I'm really looking for good flavor in a rebuildable to not have to keep buying premade ones and I like to tinker. Keeps the hands busy

seriously look into making your own juice...you can make juice that will be equal too or surpass so called premium juices for a fraction of the cost.and if you like MTL there is no need for one of these 100 watt mods....

I've actually been looking into making my juice as well. There are some great starter kits out there. My only limitation is that I live in Canada and I'm pretty sure that customs is strict on nicotine crossing the boarder so I need to find a good one in Canada.
I was thinking about getting a nice 100 mod if I could find one that's not too bulky just for the fact that if I need to buy a new mod for the RTA it's just as well to get one that will be good for a wide rage of things instead of changing from my limited 40 to a limited 50-60 for the marginal price difference going to the 100.

I run my OBS Crius RTA around 30W most of the time, each person is different in what they like but I can tell you that I'm getting plenty of flavor and vapor at 30W with dual coils.

I'm leaning toward the hurricane clone. I can do single and double in it and it's easy to build on. How do you find the cirus

I've had great luck with the Crius, easy to build on and for me wicking is super easy. Best flavor RTA I've had yet.

I haven't read much on that one but I have heard great things from the goblin mini and the hurricane (clone) can't spend almost $200 on a tank. The goblin I think I would hold off on though just because the build deck is smaller and harder to build on. Even though the hurricane is designed for single, I'm sure you can get a dual in there.

Oh jeez go ask Sharkvape...he worships the goblin mini. as I recall the mini is setup for duak coils, and comes with a little plug so that you can close off one of the airflows and use it as a single coil tank.

I've been reading that giant MTL thread. I stumbled onto it and that's what got me started on an RTA instead of the sub tank mini styled tanks

once you accquire the knowledge and skills to build your own coils...you can pretty much vape any device any atty....anywhere...on the other hand if you never acquire those skills and the chip on your mod quits or you can't find a place to buy coilheads....your fucked.

I'm trying to figure out how I would go about setting up a regulated mod if I build a 1.2 coil or then change it to a 0.3 coil. Because it's regulated ohms law doesn't really apply cause the only set value is the resistance.
Or am I looking at how the regulated mod works in the wrong way?

Thanks! Vape on

I think you maybe confused....the mod not only regulates volts it regulates watts as well...so regardless of the coil resistance the mod will make appropriate adjustment to make sure that you achieve the wattage you are looking for. so you can vape say a .8 coil at 30 watts or a .4 coil at 30 watts.. the mod will adjust to give you the same wattage...now the vape may not be the same but the wattage will be.

Ohhhh
So I can build a coil and run it anywhere in the limits of my mod and be ok safety wise but my get disgusting vape. Because everything is variable on the mod hoe do you apply ohms law to get a good start point?

Yes...regulated mods almost all of them have saftey breaks that protect you and the mod.....if you do something dangerous it just won't fire.....well start at a place you like...and then you can play with the wattage to find your sweet spot......it will depend on how you like to vape..are you after huge clouds, or flavor, or MTL hits or huge airflow.....alot of this is exploring and building stuff and trying it out and decideing what you like...

I'm more MTL looking for flavor. The clouds are cool but a PITA in the house watching TV. I know I'm more than likely going to need to get a new mod sooner than later and if I want a build to blow a few clouds later on I can just pick up an RDA. (I'm looking for a good RTA that I can get a happy medium. I'm posting in the MTL tank forum getting ideas on that and I'll leave that there unless you have a suggestion.) I'm mainly here to try and figure out how to apply ohms law to regulated mods and also to gather as much info as possible to learn where to start with different builds

Thanks! Vape on
