The coils that I wrap last quite a long time, unless I happen to damage it when changing out my wick.
When I need to change my wick, I simply remove the old wick and dry burn the coil to remove any buildup before re-wicking.
Some of my vapor friends re-wick when they simply change to a different flavor of e-liquid :)

Coils can last a long time,I have a dripper going on 9 months with a dual clapton. Like Rick said, dry burn, rewick. Make sure to check the tightness of the screws on the deck when you rewick.
