The Geekvape vermin, I mean version. And they know it sucks, but choose not to fix it, or address it. It's not a complex task that needs to be done. I run Rockbox on my MP3 players, I use Legacy OS on my rooted cell phone, my wireless router runs DD-WRT, I use Arctic Fox on any Mod that will run it, Its not like the technical aspects of these programs are challenging in any way, or presenting any new challenges, I'll bet the bootloader is not even encrypted. I'm still amazed at the job the Russian guys did on Arctic Fox. At one point, I was running an alternate OS on my Camera. Digita, which was a fantastic Camera firmware, with enough spare room to install MAME and a bunch of ROMs.
Rockbox implemented video on Ipods, years before Apple bothered to. Apple was too busy trying to sue people who were improving Apple products to actually improve their software. When the courts told Apple to go suck a bug, Apples response was to encrypt the device bootloaders, thinking that by doing so, none of those nasty people could experience any added value from an Apple product. But, because their coders are incompetent, they couldn't even encrypt a bootloader that couldn't be exploited by a bunch of part time amateurs. Rockbox put a file system, a configurable database, digital EQ. and processors , added support for blind people, ported a version of MS Paint, added a word processor, about 25 games, including the full version of Doom, and much more, into the same amount of space that Apple needed just to play some MP3s.
I think the lack of innovation in the creation of new consumer devices software is sad. But expecting thier customers to suffer, by fighting with shit software, just to load fixes that should have been addressed before they ever put their product on the market, is unacceptable. that stuff should be bulletproof. And many times, I've seen the updated FW, has eliminated the features that made you buy the device in the first place. and try to prevent any backwards compatibility. That is criminal behavior in my book. They'll put their users through hell, because they are too cheap to write a proper driver. Its even sadder, if like the Aegis, the hardware is good. Thus endeth the rant.
