Is there a US based manufacturer of High Current 18 and 26650 batteries? I really dont like this dependence on China for damn near everything related to our hobby.

Not sure about US manufacturers but if you want to avoid China in particular LG & Samsung are both South Korean and Sony is Japanese.

And I read that they built a new battery plant in the Philippines to replace the plant that was destroyed in Japan...who knows.

I think Panasonic is partnering with Tesla to build a battery plant here in the US. But that is going to be a year or two. But they will be making 18650 series cells.

Just spoke to a Sony rep. Sony no longer manufactures those batteries. She even told me if any one is selling "Brand New" VTC4 or 5 batteries they are counterfeit. There may be a few NOS floating around, the difference is the exterior. If it is shiny and highly reflective is is a counterfeit. The originals were of a dull luster.
