    Hello,

    a bit about myself:

1 year ago i bought my first vape (eleaf istick pico 25). I started vaping becous my friend did it and it is much healthier then cigarettes. About 4 months ago i bought a vandy vape bf 80w squank with a Drop 24MM RDA.

Today i'am still vaping with the vandyvape 80w mod and the drop RDA. I'am rocking Flatwire Nichrome 80 dual coils 0.24Ohm total with 6 wraps each at 80w. I like the flavor and vapor production on it. But i like to get into the exotic coils for better taste and vapor production. I don't have the tools and experience yet to build them myself. That's why i'am thinking to buy some of them pre-made to see whitch i like and don't like. But this is the point where i'am kinda lost...

I don't know how the Ohm law and other stuff really works, i've been looking on the internet and watching some video's how it works but i don't get it 100%. So i've been looking for pre-made coils and i'am really interested in the quad, triple & dual core fused claptons and the aliens. So becous i don't know how the Ohm law works i don't know if my mod can handle these exotic coils.

I would really appriciate it if someone can explain some things to me,

How do i calculate the Watt for specific coils ?
What are the difference between the coils i specified in vapor production and flavor ?
Can my 80W Mod handle these exotic coils ?
Any other info i should be aware of ?

    Kind Regards,

    Welcome to VU :vino:

Watts for a coil depend on the coils resistance and the wattage you like to vape at.
"exotic" like alien or fralien for example, traps more juice to be vaporized.
    Yes, up to 80W, however
Make sure your using a proper battery.

Find out the low voltage cut off for the VV 80w and use it where V is in this equation
    Max Amps Per Battery = (80W / 3.2V) / 0.95 = 26.3A (if cut off is 3.2V)
Which would be this vendor and 20700 battery rated at 30A.

Thx for replying to my post!

I've been using the Sony's VTC5A 18650 25A. When i'am at home the whole day i go through atleast 3 batteries, they run out pretty fast. I vape at 80W all the time. I've seen your chart/map and it's pretty interesting. My vape only uses 1x 18650 battery and i'am asking the max that the mod can give me so ya. That's probably why i'am running out of power so quick. I was thinking about getting another mod that can give me some more power. I don't wanna go for a Mech mod becous i'am gonna blow my face up eventually... When doing research in the meanwhile i've read that 80w isn't really enough for the coils that i'am interested in. I like big clouds and nice flavor. You have any recommendations on what pre-made coils i should try for my needs ?

    Kind Regards,

Not gonna take much 'exotic' to beat that flat wire you been using :D
I use alien/fralien at low wattage.
I don't have anything I vape near 80w, much less on a squonker. But I'm mostly a single coiler.

Maybe it's time for a dual cell? Or another single cell that will take 21700 to increase run time?

Running dual coils on a single 18650 is going to run it out pretty fast. Like Vape Fan suggested, consider a dual 18650 mod or a single 2x700 (would mean 20700 or 21700 batteries and a charger that will fit them since they're a tad longer/taller than 18650's). Maybe try a single coil rda or rta?

When it comes to coils, on a regulated the resistance doesn't matter quite like it does on a mech. So long as the coils are within the resistance the mod is capable of operating. So if the mod says it handles .1 to 1.5 ohms (just random for an example), the coils need to fall somewhere within that range. 0.12 ohms would work, 1.2 ohms would work. When running dual coils keep in mind resistance is cut in half.

Usually coils sold for rebuildables give the resistance per coil. Ie, .4 ohms. Yet when used in a dual coil atomizer, expect resistance to be around .2 ohms give or take (.18 to .21 or something like that). If you get coils that are .15 ohms each and try them in a dual coil atomizer, you'd be looking at around .075 ohms which may very well take you too low in resistance for the mod to fire and give you an error message.

Which coils you like could be purely subjective and you won't know until you try. I like fused claptons, they work well for me and I'm able to make them without too much trouble. Maybe consider looking into a coilology 7 in 1 kit. It's a variety pack of clapton, fused clapton etc. They have kits that feature stainless steel coils and others that are made from nichrome (ni80). SS can be used in either wattage mode or temp control, nichrome are intended for wattage only.

Thinner coils, those made from smaller wire (higher gauge number) means less mass, less metal to heat. You won't need as much wattage. Using my own as an example, I've got a dual coil build made of fused claptons. 4x30ga stainless cores, 38ga nichrome wrap. 3mm id, 5 wraps comes out to around .13 for the pair. I don't like a real hot vape so that plays into it but I'm only using around 60-65w to fire them. Flavor's good, clouds are decent though I'm not much of a cloud chaser. It'll fog a room up though. Part of it is the juice, I tend to run 75 or 80% vg juices. Makes the vape smoother, easier on my throat (easily irritated after years of smoking). The thicker vg also causes denser clouds.

You're right that it isn't gonna take much to get someone exotic :teehee:
I was thinking about getting a drag 2 but not sure tho, if my current mod can handle dual-triple fused clapton coil i'am good for now i think. What's you're opinion on that ? The alien coils look really nice and have read some good thing about those but can't seem to find them near where i live tho :c.

Thx for all the info :)

Voopoo makes good mods. I did buy a Drag Mini. It was a trade off for me. Wanted built in battery for certain occasions, but not really into rectangle or box shaped mods. Overall I like it. Famovape makes similar to Drag 2 but has resin on both sides.

Oh yeah, dual/triple FC would be good for that setup. Even Alien/fralien. Any within the resistance of the 80w the mod provides.
    Where you be?

You're right about the batteries, I really like my DROP RDA so i would probably go for a mod that can fit 2x 18650. I also didn't knew that the resistance is cut in half when using 2 coils so thx for giving me that info. Is their any difference between these multiple core claptons or are they just for the show ? I'll looked into the coilology pack and you get lot's of different kinds of coils whitch is great.

    Thx for the info!

    Kind Regards,

I've saw a Drag 2 on sale for around 50euro so that's pretty nice. But if my current mod can handle these coils i'll pass on the Drag 2 for now. I'am from Belgium

    Thx!

I'm surprised you didn't know 2 identical coils = 1/2 the resistance of one of them.
Unless you've been running the Drop with one coil?
I haven't owned Drop, but have Drop Solo.
IIRR Drop is good with 1 coil?

I wouldn't pull the trigger on that sample pack just yet :)

I live in the EU and it seems that most online shops don't have exoctic coils for sale and if so they are sold out. Maybe you know a good online vapeshop in EU that doesn't take 2-4 weeks shipping.

These are some onlineshops that i've found:

    https://www.vapekings.nl/
    https://www.aroma-company.be/nl/
    https://e-lifeshop.com/

    Thx!

The reason I hoped you held off on the Coilology pack is, probably wind up with a bunch you wouldn't use, and nothing is handmade unless its from their 'handmade' collection. They are better than Killer Demon's crap though. Somthing like this https://www.vaprio.eu/product-coilology-prebuilt-coils-framed-staple-alien-ss316l-4263.html Maybe they have higher Ω.

I didn't really look through those sites but I was thinking something like...
    https://www.naturevape.co.uk/naturevape-alien-coil-ss316l 0.30Ω ea. I x2 = .15
    Or
    https://www.naturevape.co.uk/naturevape-three-core-fused-clapton-coil-ss316 .36Ω ea. I x2 = .18

...with the alien looking hand wrapped. The legs look long enough to add a wrap making the alien .17-.18 and the other .20ish.

Thx for all the info, really appriciate taking your time to help me out!

Yha i'am still doing some research on what to get before i make unnecessary purchases. Was looking into some mods with higher wattage and i noticed the Innokin Proton Scion 2 235W. I like the design and it seems that it's pretty good from what i've read. If i buy this i'll be rocking my Drop RDA on it. I see that the company is located pretty close and ship to Belgium so that's awesome! I have another question if you don't mind ;X Is my 24mm RDA big enough to house 2x of these coils ?

    Thx a lot!

Yeah, no prob fitting those coils in Drop.
Innokin is a well regarded brand. If you like it I'd think go for it. Need a couple batteries to marry to it?

Just making sure you have batteries that are married? Or new ones that you can marry?

Pretty much. Or another dual battery mod. When in multiples, they need to be charged and discharged at the same time, and at the same rate. So when in the mod, one doesn't start discharging faster than the other.

For you 80W, Samsung 30Q x2 would be good to over 100w w/o straining them while still having 3000Mah ea.

Hard to say, there can be slight differences. Some coils affect flavors differently, some may enhance creamier flavors or fruit flavors more than others. Just personal preference. Many say they notice little to no difference with extremely fancy coils. I haven't gotten around to making aliens yet, but I did notice a difference from plain round wire to twisted to fused clapton. I get better flavor off fused clapton. I like the fused because the thinner cores are more responsive than one thick core, multicore claptons spread the coil out wider for more surface area against the cotton/juice. A lot is just personal preference and you won't know until you try it yourself. Just because I dislike a coil or 10 other people dislike a coil doesn't mean you will.

I think after a point the exotic coils reach a point of diminishing returns. Where a fancier build might taste 5 or 10% better, maybe you'd notice maybe you wouldn't. A lot of it is skill and for show. A number of fancy coils are taken on as a challenge to builders who like to better themselves and compete. They'll put them on a specific atomizer with fancy lighting and everything and a macro zoom lens to catch the intricate detail. Often times they'll glow big complex coils individually to color them (get the blue and purple hues) and then install them on an atomizer for a photo shoot even if the resistance is so low they'd never be able to vape as a pair. Too much wire, too bulky and too low ohms so only really suitable for single coil use. But if it makes a sexy photo, why not. Like show cars. Not all show cars are meant to win at the track, they may even be slow - but they're painted up gorgeous and look great.

I'd tend to agree with Vape Fan, I only suggested the coilology because they're relatively cheap. Being mass produced machine made coils it's a bit rare that they use as high gauge (thin) of a wrap wire as they do. Most use 28g cores and 30 or 32ga wrap. At least coilology are using 36-38ga wrap wires which affects the ramp up of the coil and doesn't turn it into a furnace. I'm not the biggest fan of machine made coils from the ones I've tested (never used coilology so can't say from experience). But if you're not making your own and not interested in paying the premium for handmade coils that's about what you're left with.

I've seen machine made chinese coils claiming to be whatever, an alien is a good example. And they're not. Instead of being a true alien (time consuming, a bit complex for machines) they'll wrap cores in spaced out flatwire. Or they'll wrap them like a clapton and just put a dent in the wraps to fold them into chevron shapes vs the traditional wavy S pattern of true aliens. Problem is if they call is something it's not, not only are you not getting to experience a true 'alien' coil in this instance if whatever mish mash they came up with sucks you might believe aliens suck. When in reality the two are nothing alike. It'd be like me giving you a peach pie telling you it was apple, you hated it and for 5yrs you never touched another apple pie. Then you try a real one and come to find out it's peaches you don't like and you actually love apple.

you could build your drop like this for now to keep the resistance higher and watts down while on a single battery mod. I run my drop dead like this for single flavor testing for DIY juice.
