depends on how much pg/vg/etc you use to cover your net x lenght of time (30min-6months) + filtration = what to expect

What is it you are trying to make?

here is something simple, and it works.. ;)
go pick up some rosemary, Bilo (grocery store) carries it.. small package.

Take the rosemary (all of it) and put it in a mason jar.. use a wooden spoon and just crush it.
not till its all pulpy but just simple smooshing..
next, fill your jar with pg or vg till it's covered the rosemary..

you have 2 options.. time or heat.. pick one..

if you go with time, place in a dark corner, and using wooden spoon, stir it for the next 3 days, 2 times a day.. then check on it.
if you go with heat, there are 2 ways of doing this too..

stove top: take your jar, add it to a pot of water, heat till just boiling, stir, leave it there from 30 min to 3 hours..
crock pot: take your jar add to crock pot, place lid of crock pot at an angle, turn on low/warm, and leave overnight..

if by the end of testing it is still too light, go snag some more rosemary, and repeat process with the same pg/vg in jar..
you may have to top it off a bit..

filtering: I use mesh and then coffee filters, and then if I feel I really want it filtered, I use a big syringe and cut the tip off..
stuff some cotton balls on the end and slowly filter that way..

Thank you for your reply, see this is what boggles my mind, we have NET vendors and I understand they arwen't spilling secrets to avoid competition (its the wild west times of ejuice) but surely someone would sneak out some basics?

You suggest to use rosemary as an experiment but you say to smoosh while others say to avoid that at all costs (even though i'll be doing micron filtration)

I'm hearing everything from 3 days to 6 weeks for the time this should take, all very conufsing, I appreciate the input.

I'll be doing maceration on pipe tobaccos if that helps guide.

It always depends.. on what you are making, for what purpose.. ;)

there are thousands of links on this topic.. please use common sense on anything containing sugars..

the reason I smoosh.. and not crush, is so that the plant can release the flavors that make it what it is..
i "renew" if I want it stronger, after 3 days.. it works for me..
Just like you grind tobacco into smaller pieces to either soak or roll ;)

as to why or what vendors do to make theirs.. we all have our own ways of doing things.
Is it top secrete? no.. just pay attention to what you are doing and you will see results.. :)

Cold PG Maceration

Simplest way is to put your 1oz in a 1qt mason jar.
Then fill jar with enough PG just to cover the tobacco.
Or start with 1/2 oz just to downsize a bit.

Mine's been soaking for 3 months and still isn't strong enough though.
But I used an organic Virginia Flue Cured loose leaf, which I don't think is very strong, and no flavor/coatings.
Most have had better luck it seems with pipe blends and cigars.

Some use pure PGA for a faster way (days usually).
But involves heat to evaporate the alcohol afterwards.
Then some PG is added (midway) cause you want the goodies to transfer into the PG carrier for vaping.
And then continue to evaporate the rest of the alcohol.
Way more complicated but yields a cleaner extract, supposedly.

Big thread over at the other place about DIY Nets.

hmm is what I said too.. ;)

heabob.. you might want to try some fire cured virginia tobacco..
company in England makes an export tin type.. turns out nice after 2-3 months..
not sure what brand etc you got..

then i just use my flavorings for the rest.. just a thought..

I shy away from Pure Grain Alcohol, I didn't take a whole lot fo chemistry but I took enough to know thats going tio cause unwanted reactions.

Virginia flue cured should have more sugars than a burley, less oils though (maybe the pg is highly lipophilicit?)

I'm using pre-mixed pipe blends for my first set of experiments, I figure If I can get that eright then I can backtrack to individual leaves and cut my own.
