My wife and I were just discussing this! And it's not limited to just the gear. The juices, the slang, the website and shop names are very often goofy. I know I'm new, but please allow me to rant...
First off, "vape" and "vaping" still sound weird to me, but I guess anytime to make a word a verb, it sounds weird for a while. "Google it" sounded weird the first time I heard it too, but now it's normal.
"Mod" is a dumb name for the power source we're all using. Yes, I know the origins, but it's still a dumb name that doesn't in any way describe what the device is. I've adopted it, because I know it's not going anywhere, but it's just dumb.
RDA, RBA, RDTA etc. That whole initials thing is a mess. So in "RBA", the B stands for the B in reBuildable. But in RDA, we're still using the word rebuildable, but we're no longer denoting the B. Some sources say an RDA is an atomizer you drip, and an RBA is one with a tank? Then RDTA, the T stands for tank, so it's the same as an RBA? Huh?
How about juice flavors? Everyone is trying to out badass each other. Have a cherry, grape, butterscotch blend? What do we name it? How about "Crotch kick"! Vanilla cheesecake? Lets call that one "Skull crusher". Fruity pebbles cereal? Lets call it "Taint stab". I just had a menthol watermelon the other night. It was called Cyborg Plasma. I used to like one called Sicker than Most. As you would expect from the name, it was berries and tangerine. I really like a strawberry/watermelon/bubblegum flavor. It's called Pennywise, because of course it is. (Ok, the first three were fake. But they sound plausible, right?)
Gear? Serpent. Mage. Griffin. Gemini. D&D much? Goon. Goblin. Mutation. Moonshot. Snow Wolf. Phantom..... The Avocado?!?
On top of all that, you have the mis-spelled to be cool words like Tug Lyfe. Cloudz. Sic and Syck. I can't think of any more.
