Shaving for men, what shave cream, gel or foam do you use or are you old school using shave soap, and a brush?

Like to hear if you have tried both with which one gives you a closer more comfortable shave?

I have been using can shave gel, and foam like Edge etc for years but recently switched to old school shave soap, and a brush which I feel gives you a closer shave.

Well you still have to shave the upper part of your beard to maintain the shape

Well that is true. For that just a single blade for better definition. Hard to know where a double blade exactly is.

Some say shaving is all about the shave cream you use, others say it is about the razor.

I'd say it's both. Brush, soap, and oldschool single blade razor.

Is that the one guaranteed for a beginner not to cut you?

Think the shave brush is what helps best for a good clean shave. First and foremost, a shave brush is the best way to prep the facial hairs themselves before a shave. You see, without adequate stimulation, shave creams and gels are unable

Different kinds of shave brushes, some are made from Horse hair, others Boar, but the best I am reading is Badger, and better then that is silver tip Badger.

Good article on them to read

Well, here is the thing with any canned soap.

They dry out the skin on your face. Something to do with the residue from the propellant.used to get the stuff out of the can.

The old-fashioned "Pucks" of soap available are just made with better ingredients that not only protect your face during the shave but moisten as well.

Also, using a brush to apply the soap does a better job of getting it where it needs to be. Between your facial skin and your beard. Not laying on top of the beard.

Boar Bristle makes for a good low-end entry brush and does a great job but is a bit harsh/scratchy against your skin.

Badger, especially Silver Tipped Badger, is the best and also by far the most expensive. Can go into hundreds of dollars.

The third and newer option are the Synthetic Brushes. For about $30 you can get a brush that IMHO compares to a $100+ Badger.Brush.

And lastly, you need a serviceable Double Edged Safety Razor with good quality blades. Personally, I prefer Feather Blades.

Once you are practiced, you can get a BBS quality shave out of just about any good quality DE razor.

I prefer a long handle with a knurled or textured grip.
