Silly question? Wash wire or coils?

Does it benefit to wash and dry the wire or coils before setting it up and dry firing on the deck? Or will a dry fire pretty much do it? Will it taste better if I wash it?

I have only dry fired the 3 different wire I have used and can tell a difference in taste at first with all 3. Does it ruin or hurt to wash them with dawn before I install?

I think they are all kanthal wires.

If you dry fire no need to wash... if you do not.. there might be...

Some types of wire can NOT be dry fired. Like nickel or titanium.. in these washing is the only way to removed leftover manufacturing chemicals and oils.

If a new coil or wire is full of oil then you're going to have burned oil stick to it if you dry burn it.

When you get a coil or wire look at it and smell it, if it looks dirty or stinks then wash it.
Same goes for attys.

IMHO, for coils a good dry burn after every second or third tank keeps them nice and clean.

But about every 10 days or so, I like to give my toppers a quick bath on my ultrasonic cleaner with some water and vinegar, then a soak in hot water and an air dry.

A lil soapy water won't hurt them. Washing them really helps the colors pop, too, if you are into coil porn.

I usually wipe all "Kanthal" that I use with alcohol because it is hard to find FeCrAl of decent quality in Russia. Dry-firing and rinsing method works great for cleaning your coils before rewicking, though you got to be careful not to drown the airholes.
