Surprisingly vape friendly places

I have recently had 2 different places, weeks apart, be surprisingly vape friendly. I typically do not vape somewhere that you cannot smoke a cig. It just feels like the polite thing to do.

1) mid January. My wife and I went to the bowling alley with some friends. We deciding to have some beer while bowling and I noticed the bar tender had a mod sitting at the register. Naturally I asked if it was allowed in here and she told me the owner preferred vaping inside over smokers going in and out all the time. Right on bowling alley!!!

2. I got sent out to a local power plant to run equipment. Of course there is the typical safety video/orientation that goes with day one shit. The safety guy comes in and sees my mod on the table, ask what I am hitting on and then tells me it's ok to vape in the office building. Shocked the hell out of me that a place with a million rules on safety is cool with vaping indoors.

So what surprises have you come across like this?

Indiana. About an hour south west of Indy. Rural farming community at that. We are always a day late and dollar short with catching on to trends.

Not me, I haven't found a single vape-friendly place yet. In fact, this last weekend I took the family to an arcade fun-center type place, first thing I saw at the door was a big ol' fat sign that read "NO SMOKING OR VAPOUR (gross)" Seriously said 'gross' on it, in parenthesis and everything. I vaped outside by the vehicle in the parking lot, no big - but still, never been to a place that was vape friendly. Personally.

That's ridiculous. Some people look down on us for leaving the cancer sticks behind. Other look up us with envy.

I honestly think I was more offended by their spelling of 'vapor.' I'm an ex-smoker, I'm quite used to being shoved further and further away from entrances - carrying my vaping habits to the same standard I was at when I smoked wasn't hard or difficult.

But I'm in America, we do not spell 'vapor' with a 'u.'

vape shops only in my neck of the woods.

the easiest way to tell if someone is from Canada,is we use the letter 'U' and the word 'sorry' too much.
sorry for hijacking your thread. i'll go back to my colouring books, lol.

Burley, I meant outright disgust with it. That's like me putting you down for going to the dr for an illness. (I know. Crazy.)

Freemind: there's a vape shop INSIDE the college mall in Bloomington. I figured that community would cry foul about that.

I know of a few local bars that allow it. My favorite pool hall allows it. The owners of the corner store I go to encourage it... ...they like the smell - but then, they also burn incense in there. My barber thinks it's cool... ...he tried cigalikes and they didn't work for him, but you will usually see people vaping in there... ...we're working on getting him to try a setup that's actually good.

I work as a manager at a branch of a major national retail chain and there is a "no smoking" policy there, but the DM doesn't see a need to extend that to vaping and allows people to vape on the floor when the store isn't open and in the back when it is. I went to him about it thinking it wouldn't fly, but he gave it a chance because I went to him and laid out my intentions beforehand - he's one of those guys who likes when his people take the initiative to communicate about goings on in his stores. I've noticed that so long as I make it a point to keep in contact with him, he's more receptive to my requests. He likes it when his people are staying on top of things and coming to him with well-thought-out plans.

He tells me that he's trusting us (the ones in charge) to keep things kosher and thus far, things have gone well. Not one single complaint from customers or co-workers. I encourage those of my people who smoke to bring vapes to work so that they can step into the back and take little vapor breaks... ...several of them now vape more than they smoke. They especially like it for when we're taking shipments, which often entails 3-4 hours of continuous unloading - there's no time to step out for a smoke then, but you can always vape!

This town is generally pretty vape friendly. I don't think I've ever seen a "no vaping" sign anywhere. There are vape shops everywhere and it's really not unusual to see people out and about with box mods and drippers or mcnugget tanks. If only I had an ml for every time somebody has asked me where I buy my juice this past week alone, lol. I mean, there are literally like 5 vape shops within a 5-mile radius of where I live and it continues to be like that in neighboring cities. I dunno... ...it has been my observation that some pockets of South Florida are unbelievably vape-friendly. We're a weird mix of very conservative old folks who DGAF about what the kids do and young-adult to middle-aged libertarians who generally DGAF about what other people choose to do. Downtown is just like Portland, only with more old people.

When I was living on the Oregon Coast, two out of three of the restaurant lounge joints allowed it and one moderately upscale establishment not only approved but thanked us for asking in manner which inferred most vapers did so without inquiring about it first,

Really the only places I go often is work, grocery/retail shops, and the vape shops. Obviously vape shops are vape friendly, grocery and other retail stores are not (as far as I know anyway, Im not one to push limits or draw attention to myself so I dont vape where I couldnt smoke), and I work at a coffee roasting/packaging/distribution facility for a major brand and coffee absorbs flavors and smells, so not only can I not vape indoors, they also have a policy where you are to wear no deoderant, no perfume/cologne, no excessive makeup, and no mint/gum/candy/drinks in the facility, and they have hygiene rules about body odor and such.

I remember we had a new guy start and he was hired through some program for people with mental disabilities/handicaps. Nice enough guy, tho hes kind of slow and very very talkative and lacks social skills, and he was kind of dirty/stinky/reeked of BO when he started. I guess it was so bad and noticeable that they contacted his mother (from what I heard anyway) and insisted that he bate more frequently. Since then there hasnt been an issue.

Sorry for going off on a tangent lol.

The casino option didn't occur to me earlier as it's a given here. 'Have to stay in the smoking area (which is 90% of the gaming floor as smokers are risk-takers and the casinos love 'em) but vapers aren't given a second glance here.

As an aside, I stopped going to the casinos, in part because the entertainment value wasn't worth the cost but I also hated coming home reeking from cigarette smoke.

Tons of places here in Oklahoma. I know several coffee shops that will let me vape inside, although I prefer sitting out on the patios. Had one coffee shop owner explicitly tell me not to worry about offending other customers either as "Fuck them if they don't like it." This person was not a smoker/vaper either, just an enthusiastic supporter. Every bar I have ever entered although most of ours still allow smoking. I've still been invited to vape in all the ones I've been in that don't. I've had multiple restaurants tell me it was ok to use inside even though I didn't ask, just set my mod off to the side on the table while I was eating. On school property the school district superintendent told me to do what I want "just not in front of the kids", including using it inside campus buildings when students weren't around, and that was across all campuses in the district. I'm fairly certain this was and still is a violation of state law but none the less true.

The guy who first helped along my interest in vaping is one of my husband's co-workers; he's now quit completely, but when he switched from smoking to vaping, their company had zero problems with him vaping inside the plant -- in which smoking is a HUGE no-no -- they make cardboard boxes, so the place is crammed to the rafters with cardboard!

The place I go to get my vehicle emissions test, I've had mixed reactions; once when I was the only customer in the place, I was told, sure, go right ahead. Another time, there were several people sitting in the lobby, and I was told "if nobody minds." One guy apparently did, and it was only a few minutes' wait, so it wasn't a big deal. GA doesn't have any laws forbidding vaping specifically, except on educational campuses and in some gov't bldgs. But then, GA allows smoking in any establishment that requires you to be 18 just to enter -- such as bars.

I generally just try to stay under the radar -- if there's no one around, then I vape; if there are a lot of others around, I take it outside. Just courtesy, since vaping is so new-ish, and a lot of folks aren't yet familiar with it, except the total bullshit spewed by the media and the ANTZ.

It's pretty wild how differently we are treated in different parts of the country. I think that I could legitimately get away with it at more places if I didn't feel guilty to vaping where others can't smoke. I always go to the smoking area unless I am told it's ok for me to vape indoors.

This, this and this. I'm not trying to make a spectacle of myself, I'm trying to get a little bit of nicotine in me - not show off. Vapor does that without stinking up the place (and me) and without giving me lip and gum cancer - so vape it is.

More and more locations and cities are banning vaping. Sadly any of us that use high VG juice that makes a large cloud are just asking for others to eventually complain.. so enjoy i now.. I have seen almost every place that "I used" to be able to vape in set new rules more aless since sub ohming has become popular

Very true, about high-VG; I have to use very high PG (87%) just to be able to keep breathing... but high PG is great because the vapor is very thin and dissipates very rapidly -- I can sit in our pickup truck (much smaller interior than a car) and vape my face off for half an hour, and still not fog it up. Which means anytime there's nobody looking at me, I can vape -- they most likely will never actually see any sort of cloud or fog. They might perceive a faint bakery smell, but that's easy to shrug off. :D

I hear ya on that. I have no shame in my game and always have people come up asking me about and then tell me they have one in the(all while sucking down a cancer stick). It's like folks are embarrassed to vape around smokers and give in the cigs. I like to feel like I am helping them get over that fear/embarrassment and move on to a healthier lifestyle.

I got the "vaper's salute" from a lady in the next lane, not long after I started vaping. No idea what sort of cloud she produces, as the light changed and we all drove on. But tootle puffers are vapers too, even if cloud chasers don't want to admit it.

Maybe..But what my sister likes is not so much the clouds but the nicotine hit! 75w on a dual coil .25 build vs a 1.2 ohm single coil at 20w... she has discovered she gets her nic fix in just a couple pulls on a sub tank or RDA..(advancing in knowledge) and she likes the wide open airflow, like on my Griffin..its not so much the clouds for her dude as it is to stay tobacco free..I say advanced in the text she's still learning, like learning what works best for her to keep off the stinkies..Clouds has nothing to do with it at all...with me, well, its alot different, lol

There was a vape OK watering hole nearby where I live called "Rutabaga's", but the local hipster cloudbusters ruined it by blasting monster clouds to the point where you thought you were in a cloudbank when you walked into the bar, so Lenny, the owner (a vaper no less!) had to ban it. Pissed a lot of vapers off, not at Lenny, but the fucking hipster douchebag cloudbusters that killed it for everyone.

I guess I'm pretty fortunate that around here the vape hipster movement seems to be pretty strongly centered around scene kids who aren't old enough to go to bars. They sit at the enthusiast vape shops all day practicing rings and jellyfish and fogging the places out and comparing their limited edition mechanical mods. In a couple years when they all turn 21 we'll see. That said, the kind of biker friendly places I hang out at don't really get a lot of their type of clientele anyway. I think it would only really be a concern at the trendier art district places. Would still be a shame though. I usually try to step down from max VG to some higher PG liquid in the tank if I'm going to be vaping at the bar, just because I don't want to be "that fucking guy". I think in general the rule is just mutual respect. I figure if I can vape in a bar full of motorcycle riding rednecks all night long without offending anybody I'm doing alright. I'm mentally trying to picture one of those kids chucking monster clouds in that environment, and I just don't see the night ending well for them, at all.

Not semantics at all; they mean entirely different things. Respect must be earned. Courtesy is given freely. I will give respect to those who've earned it; I will give courtesy to everyone, because that's the way I was raised.

And I give courtesy to those I respect as a way of demonstrating that respect. I also give courtesy to anyone I don't know well enough not to, to give them the benefit of a doubt as well as to show how I expect to be treated. I don't waste my courtesies on those who have proven themselves unworthy of my respect, because that's the way I was raised.

My boss let's us vape in the shop but not in the rest of the building. I work a a car dealer. But the first time she was like you can't do that in the shop. But then I explained it basically harmless especially compared to the chemical fumes we breath in there all day. And she also smelled it and and said " it smells good. I guess its fine"
