Everything in The Gifted came to a head in exciting fashion this week as “eXit Strategy” saw Polaris and Reed get rescued, at a cost. While the general execution of this episode wasn’t as strong as it could be, the big turn of events still made for an entertaining episode.

It was a rush to see every main character together in the same scene with explosions going off and mutant powers in full use (for the most part, but I’ll get to that in a moment). The stakes were huge and the show used that tension to make this episode feel like a series finale instead of just Episode 4 of 10. The prisoner-transport attack was a bit confusing at times because the location of each person wasn’t always clear and it made Sentinel Services look woefully unprepared - Where the spider Sentinels at? Andy didn’t destroy every last one, did he? - but all that said, the engaging twists and turns of the battle smoothed all that over. Sean Teale in particular really sold Marcos’ desperation during that perilous moment where he strained to use his powers in vain, only to pop up and turn the tide of the fight at the last second. A fist-pump worthy moment.
