Hi Folks
Bought this RDA a while ago while the hype train was in full swing, at the time every man and his dog was talking about the Icon RDA by Mike Vapes and Stefan Z. does this RDA live up to the hype let's find out
What do you get ?
Vandy Vape - ICON RDA Features:
Mike was saying he hated all these RDAs coming out with very few spares he wanted to give the vaper options
As such you have 3 different drip tips to choose from, a 510 drip tip adapter, spare orings, spare deck screws (Phillips) and a bottom feeding pin, plus the Allen key for the screw pre installed
Machining is really nice, love the logos on it its not overkill, itncan squonk always a bonus (well should be a given in my book for all RDAs)
Nice thickness to the housing and top cap, orings aren't too tight and makes a nice click when you push the housing onto the deck
The box leaves a little to be desired complete lack of graphics and I know that message is there to cover bases with tpd laws but come on this does not contain nicotine (not yet anyway!)
The manual is like a book about 4 pages of it will be in your language doesn't offer too much info since there isn't much to learn on an RDA
The RDA breaks into 4 parts as standard for an RDA
The gold plating held up to multiple cleaning sessions in the ultrasonic cleaner nothing flaked off anywhere so pleased with that
What's she like to build on?
Very easy to get your coils mounted and it can fit some big coils on the deck no problem. It's like the final version of the peerless deck design? maybe Stefan worked on that one prior to moving from Geekvape and tweaked it for this unless Mike had his hand in it
The only thing I don't like so much is having to move your coils centre. The outside post hole is close to the edge so it can be a pain to move the coil over making it difficult to wick one side especially with the leg left there
But you'll get some great coil porn shots from this deck here are some framed stapled staggered fused claptons I made
The hex screws are decent and clamped down well on my coil legs
Overall it's a pretty decent deck layout I like it more than I dislike it
What she like to vape on?
Well here is where it falters in my opinion
Despite the huge coils I'm running on this the flavour isn't coming through as well as other RDAs I've tried I mean it's not bad by any means but it's a cloud chucker first and foremost and a flavour second
It's a really airy vape even with the AFC closed over half way
I prefer to drip this over squonking as well the way the post are close together somehow disrupted the juice getting even distribution to the wicking not that I was getting dry hits by any means it just tended to pool one side or the other a little more (although this could have been my wicking style perhaps?)
I does get hot at the top when chain vaping so you might be better off not choosing one of the low profile drip tips unless you like bacon lips that is
I've not noticed any leaking so that's always a plus
Final thoughts
The sits somewhere in middle of the road for me. I guess if you are into clouds then this we'll serve you well, if like me you are into flavour first not so much I won't give this a thumbs down as it does a lot of things well especially for the price point but it's not blowing me away
