Burning, nasty...18650

Been using my IPV D3 80w with Tobeco Mini Tank. Awesome setup. I have a question regarding recent nasty burning. My first 2-3 0.2 ohm coils worked great, heavy vaping at 40 watts for 2 weeks before having to change them out. So far, excellent!! With my recent purchase of a 5 pack of Tobeco coils(and this is the only thing that has changed), I have had 2 coils, that were in use only about 1 week, BLAST me with the nastiest BURNT hit I have ever had. The first time it was during normal use. The 2nd time was today, right after putting a fully charged 18650 in. The 18650's have all of the Samsung writing on them , and I use the high tech Nitecore dual charger. Wondering, should I suspect the coils maybe being from a faulty lot#? The batteries? They are all in pristine condition...It just kinda makes me nervous. And, getting blasted with a BURNT, and I mean BURNT hit at 40-50 watts is horrendous!! Thanks in advance.

Just did it again! Only a slight burnt taste, at 50 watts. Backed it down to 40w and its ok again...WTH?!?!

you might have a short or unstable connection from the bottom of the atty and mod.
The coils could be crap or juice too thick to wick right.
Not the batteries since it is regulated.

Might be a bad batch. Keep the wattage at 35-40w or so until you get another pack of coils. Ebay has a few different sellers of those coils. Good luck.

Are you certain that the new pack of coils you purchased are the .2 ohm coils and not a higher resistance? A higher resistance coil at the same wattage would likely result in the burnt taste you're getting. Just a thought.

I was in a playful mood.
But the coils, connection or atty might be at fault, no reason on a regulated mod to look at the batteries being faulty when there is a chip and electronics between the atty and the go button.

Ok. Well I'm fairly new to sub ohm vaping. So when you say "connection or atty" what does that mean to me? I just call the thing that I screw in with cotton wick the cool. What is the atty? Connection?

Atomizer the thing that holds the coil and wick... if you are rebuilding I would suggest checking the connection to the leads to make sure they are firmly tight not pinch the wire apart tight.
If using a replaceable atty make sure the coil part is firm but not over tight in the base. over tight can cause the insulators to crush or fail.
The pin connection to the mod could have gunk on it, check to make sure it is clean same with the pin on the bottom of the atty.

@exit96 A good sign for a dirty connection is a jumping (wrong) resistance reading, besides a burnt taste with a good coil. I clean the 510 connection on my mods on a regular basis, in order to avoid this kind of problem. I use a q-tip with some 90% Isopropyl alcohol on one of the tips, clean the connection, then use the dry tip to wipe eventual left over alcohol. Let it sit for a minute, to make absolutely sure eventual left over alcohol evaporates, before screwing the tank back on.
