They're some kind of Maine coone or Norwegian forest cat. They used to fit in my hand now we can barely pick them up. And we had to graduate from cat door (to the basement for their litter) to medium size dog door.
I had a only one cat in my life that I could call a pet, as I wasn't ever meant to be a cat person (allergies... even the dogs Liz and I have make my eyes water, and sneeze? Oh, yeah). I named him after the Romantic era poet John Keats ("Keats"). He was so much like a dog, it was terrifying. I could take a 'super ball' (remember those?), and just drop it into my kitchen. Of course, the ball would bounce like crazy...
Keats would keep the ball bouncing, going nuts, spinning around like a dog, in order to KEEP it bouncing. Here's the 'terrifying' part:
He'd grab the ball, come back to me with his tail scissoring back and forth, and drop it gently at my feet. He'd stand there, watching what I would do.
I pick up the ball, say "Good boy!" - and send the ball back into the kitchen again. It was just like "lather, rinse, repeat." He'd always bring the ball back to me, and he never tired of the game we played. He'd also come, when called. He was just a sweet grey Tabby, nothing special, really... except for his dog-like behavior.
When I moved out from that apartment years ago, I carried him out on my shoulder to get him into my car, like I would do indoors. He went nuts, clawed me so badly that I had to actually get stitches (and shots) at the ER. He just ran away.
I never found him again. It's one of those sad moments in my life, that come back to visit within my mind's reverie. He was one-of-a-kind.
The only cats I had after that were when I was married to my ex. They lived in our barn, as we had two horses - a Saddle-bred mare that was well past fifteen hands tall, and an old pony (what an @$$ache he was). Just barn cats, to keep the snakes and meeses (chuckle) at bay. The kids would feed them all out of a 'community' bowl, and they'd eat whatever else they caught.
I haven't had any cats since. I'm waiting for Liz to get home from her meeting, and allow me to say a late 'good night' to @Whiskey - sheesh! Liz just called, so I've got to go. She and I are going out tomorrow night.

good luck tomorrow
