So, after numerous people have asked me, "Hey Chef, why don't you have a build thread?", I decided that I might as well start one.

So, here are my first pics - A lightly hammered/lightly polished alien.

I'll probably be adding stuff at random. A lot of it has already been posted somewhere else on the forum, and a lot hasn't. And for all of you folks that think this stuff is hard to do, let's not forget my very first build. Yes, this really is my first build.

One of my favorite pics - Multi strand framed Caterpillar track coil on the Doge Competition V3, along with a pic of the "guts" and the uninstalled pair.

I used a chasing hammer and a polished steel jeweler's block. They're great items to have for hammering various types of wire.

I've never actually tried vaping a polished coil yet. Polished coils are the only coils that I make that are "eye candy" coil porn for Instagram that aren't 100% function oriented. All of my other builds have a specific function, be it for flavor, clouds, or for a specific type of mod or atty.

Yeah, that was one of my better ones. It slid right into the Petri like they were made for each other.

Do you torch your wire to get some of the springy-ness out? I haven't gotten the courage to do a parallel build where one's a fancy pants wire side by side with just a regular coil, but I wondered how you deal with the difference in springy-bility (it's science)? Wondering if the torch holds the key to ally things springy, or if there is another secret in the chef's cupboard... BAMF'N stuff though!

So far, I haven't had a need to. But, I don't do a lot with twisted wire (which seems to be the springiest). When I do, I tend to just apply a lot of pressure/tension when wrapping. One thing you can try is using a smaller diameter wrapping tool for springy wire. Say you want a 3mm inside diameter on a twisted wire build. Wrap it on a 2.5mm jig/screwdriver/drill bit. It will spring back to approximately your desired ID of 3.0mm.

So I wanted to run a 32/42 alien in the Petri for the Noisy Cricket. I failed miserably. So I went with 30/40. I don't know why there's such a difference, but the 30/40 is MUCH easier to work with for some reason. SERIOUS flavor and cloud build! :D

2.5 wraps BARELY fit into the Petri. The initial Clapton was a bitch to make.

Additionally, I lucked out, and the stretch was perfect - Thank you Jesus!

Also, If it's understretched, you really can't give it any extra tension while wrapping due to the thickness of the 28 gauge wire, so be careful if you try this one. Also, I think it would have come out nicer if I had hammered it first. Oh well, next time.

This is the first time I've been able to come to an almost perfect mirror/chrome finish.

Either way your still a showoff
btw sexy ass build. And of course, it's just jealously as I can't build no prettys
Not flattened, just polished. It actually would have come out better if I had flattened it first.

220 grit. :D
I started off with 320grit when I did the 22 n80 build. I couldn't find anything higher then 1000 grit locally so I went 300/400/600/1000 iirc
I like the wicking properties of the polished when doing simple builds. I tried to polish some Claptons but I pushed against the coils to hard and messed up my spaceing. Kinda a real shot to the groin haha.

Just came across this thread. Dude I can only dream that one day I build something even remotely close to any of these you have built. Mad props!
