Hi All, been lurking here for a while and decided to register and say hi! I have found so much information here, I just wanted to say thanks to the community!

I started researching DIY e-juice about a month ago. I'm one of those people that will research the hell out of something, dive in, make a big mess and then dig in and start the real learning.

I just placed my first order for flavors (BCV), nic and base (Nude Nicotine) and the tools (Amazon). I think I'll be pretty comfortable with the process, but I think the real skill comes from understanding how the flavors relate to each other when creating or modifying recipes. I chose seven recipes to start that I got from here and another site. Most are pretty complex, but share some ingredients and I think it will allow me to experiment with the components to try to make other recipes.

I decided to go with 36mg nic base for now, because even though I will keep it away from my kids, it's just safer all around. I think I'll be making mostly 70/30 VG/PG for my sub ohm tank. Here are my starter flavors.

Absinthe-TFA
Acetyl Pyrazine 5% PG-TFA
Almond-FA
Anise-FA
Bavarian Cream-TFA
Cheesecake (Graham Crust)-TFA
Coconut-FA
Cookie-FA
Custard-FA
Fresh Cream-FA
Fuji-FA
Jamaica Rum-FA
Key Lime-TFA
Lime Tahity - COLD PRESSED-FA
Mandarin-FA
Marshmallow-FA
Meringue-FA
Orange-FA
Pie Crust-TFA
Pineapple-FA
Ripe Strawberry-TFA
Strawberry-FA
Sweet Raspberry-TFA
Sweet Strawberry-Cap
Torrone (Nougat)-FA
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream-TFA
Vanilla Swirl-TFA
Vienna Cream-FA
Yellow Cake-FW

Anyways, I just wanted to pop in and say hi and thanks to this great community!

And of course, my first post, I put in the wrong section! Sorry!!! I thought I was in
DIY E-Liquid - General Discussion...
Looks like bossman moved it for you, LOL.

Nice selection of flavors! Recipes, tasting the mixes knowing what's in them will teach you so much about the individual flavors. Making single flavor samples is also another way, but very time consuming. You're gonna have a ball.

Welcome to DIY and to VU :)

Welcome @Argusi! This DIY stuff is a slippery slope my friend, a slippery slope. Before you know it you've got 300 flavors and a lab in your basement. It's very rewarding though, when you mix something that's wonderful. Have fun with it and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Welcome to VU! Unless Huck or one of the other mods moved this already, you are in the right place...

Good way to start, picking out a few recipes and buying to mix those. Enjoy!

Thanks @Huckleberried The funny part about it is I've moderated forums and groups for years. My heart sunk when I pressed "Create thread" and realized I goofed!

It's amazing to me reading how some of you experiment to get the flavors melded together. Very similar to a chef creating a fantastic new dish. Cool stuff!

@kimber Haha, that's how it goes with most hobbies I start!)

@gopher_byrd Huckleberried moved me right off the bat. And yes, I did report myself! Thanks!

Thanks @martnargh Haha, I lived on that site for a few days (and here) trying to pick the recipes that I absolutely HAD to have for my first order. Lots of sorting by star rating, but still looking at the non rated just in case. Wow, there's a LOT of stuff out there... Even trying to overlap, those couple dollar bottles add up pretty quick. These are the complex ones that should also give me a good base to start making my own concoctions. I've already made another order for flavor tonight because I forgot some alternate flavors I didn't include in my original order!

Here's what I have planned for the first wave.

Absinthe Strawberry
Key Lime Cookies
Key Lime Pie
Orange Creamsicle
Pina Colada
Rhrodonite
Strawberry and Cream

Ah.. you have discovered the ideal approach :)

Haha, yeah, that's been a famous technique of mine for a very long time! I have it down to a science, especially the big mess part!

Nice group of flavors there but I will warn you the FA flavors are really strong so tread lightly.

Looks like you're off to a good start.
Welcome to VU BTW.
Thanks!

Welcome to VU
I'm following pre-tested recipes for now until I get used to how much of each to use. I'll probably make a chart to get my averages for main or background flavor. Good advice!
