Smok TF RTA

I recently got one of these because I may be writing a review on it. It came with the quad coil deck.

It's a big beast, like Boreas, 25mm. It had 4 4 wrap Claptons in it, but they were messed up so I had to rip them out.

Some features:

4.5ml capacity
16mm build deck
Top filling with swivel cap
Bottom airflow, 4 slots

This thing is a hard build. I don't recommend the 4 coil deck for beginners (though the dual coil Velocity deck should be fine). I also don't recommend it to impatient people nor anyone who doesn't like to fiddle with tiny, time consuming things.

Also, you can only fit small coils. I considered going vertical, but being bottom airflow, I felt the wicks would interfere with the airflow. But maybe I'll go vertical on my next build.

Filling was easy with a plastic needle tip/Unicorn bottle. It might get messy with a dropper as the opening was pretty small.

Juice flow control is similar to the Crius/Griffin. It works well, and easily.

Pros:

Flip open top cap
Easy wicking with the Crius type deck, though gets cramped doing 4.
Very good airflow
Uses 510 drip tips. The stock one got hot quickly, but I was easily able to change it.
Juice flow control is nicely done
Good machining
Plenty of spare parts

Cons:

Difficult and time consuming build
Little room for horizontal coils
Small capacity for the size of the atty. I vaped it empty in record time, lol!
Small fill opening will be a pain for some.

Bottom line: something different for those who enjoy putting the time into a build.

i was considering the g2 tank so i can put my tfv4 mini (the damn thing wont quit pouring juice out the bottom air holes) i like the idea of the juice flow control. any ideas what would be good? oh i should mention i am building my own coils and refuse to buy pre made for outrageous prices.

I think the G2 deck looks great. I need to see if I can buy just the deck because I have to say I don't look forward to rebuilding the G4 deck. I'm usually not that bored

Wouldn't be so difficult using twisted or single wire but Clapton's WOULD be better....................been eyeing this one closely, but the comment about the ease of emptying the tank in a really, really short time makes me pause a bit (I DO have a life beyond mixing juice)...............The fact the Griffin 25 will let you do dual OR single builds is kinda making me lean that way (Single coil builds on the Boreaus or Allegra maybe in the works??)_...........but If someone was to just up and send me a Boreaus I guess I could be happy..........

I know..........I have to top my Crown off 3 or 4 times a day when it gets down less than half tank..........there is a life beyond the mixing flask...

What I dislike the most about the TFV4 is the swivel top fill. If you want to take the tank on the road, you need to secure the top fill with a vape band, in order to avoid accidental opening of the top fill, thus spilling the juice all over.

That's exactly why I'm completely ignoring this RTA pretty much no matter what good things it has, it can't be worth dealing with that top fill design. Even a vape band isn't going to be as secure as a screw top.

That said, I do think the TFV4's RBA decks are the best out there, of course they were no RTA level decks but for an insert into a factory coil tank they were quite nice.

I like the TFV4 Topfill...I did have to bend the hinge a little to make it "Snap and Lock" but I didnt have any issues with it while using my TFV4...I thought it was a great design for filling. Im sure it could be improved with a slide lock to secure it but Im seeing alot of designs now where you twist and pull off the cap...like a keyed design which I am fond of if its machined well.

Yea I always have my mod in my hand or a table, if Im out and about it doesnt leave my hand...Ive wanted to make a Kydex Holster...I need more sheets though.

Seal up the holes yourself on one of the decks, should be very doable. Hell on the 2mm one you might be able to just take some thick toothpicks or thin scewers and break off a piece to make a "block".

I wouldn't mind a 23mm Boreas, it's a bit more tank than I need, but it sure is nice.

I have my pico/diablo pocketed right now, hell I don't even have to turn that thing off. Never an issue when it was on the mini volt and still not an issue now, absolutely love it.

I tend to like much hotter setups when Im out and about...Usually I bring out the Hohm Wrecker G2/Boreas or the Tres Equis/TM Squared/Goon with something low..I tend to also vape much more when Im walking around..when Im home I enjoy a mild warmth vape..anyone else experience something like that?

With Merlin coming out I'm not sure if a single coil adaptor will happen for Boreas. I don't see any reason you can't put a vertical single coil in it though?

Those juice hungry tanks are the reason why I DIY. In addition, I know what's in my eJuice.

I think Merlin will be ready soon provided no more new attys come out with a similar deck. We had to make changes because that happened. Trying to avoid another Supreme/Boreas situation, if possible. Since we saw the other in time, we were able to delay and rework it.

A 30mm version of the Boreas and Griffin's would be a really good start..............an easy to build, fill once a day tank, would be a good start. One that included several different type available coil build decks (vertical & horizontal coils) would knock it out of the park...........

Being able to build a single, dual, triple large vertical ID coil's with good wicking setup and airflow and you have a customize able sub-ohm tank that would almost rival the ease of using small tanks using pre-made coils for the casual crowd, and could be built out to satisfy the most hard core RDA person. A "Wizard of a Tank" or Chameleon Tank.

A 28-30mm version of the Crown with an available decent sized velocity style RBA deck would be a killer tank also, supersize the Crown................I'd be happy with that...

Anyone tried a vertical build on the G4 yet? looking for wicking tips, the airflow is seated underneath so I would definitely want the cotton on the outside with the center hollow. I have always had the toughest time wicking vertical coils properly(but always loved production from them the most) so any advice is greatly appreciated!

I have both the Baby Beast and the G4 TF-RTA. My local B&M sold it to me for $20 after I bought a lot of wire and cotton. Couldn't pass that up.

I really like them both. Through careful trial and error, I've learned how to get zero leaks out of the Baby Beast (close off the airflow before you refill the tank, DO NOT let it spill out onto that gasket, and don't blow into it before pulling).

The juice flow control of the TF-RTA and the ability to recoil/wick without emptying out the juice was the clincher. I'm really surprised that the Beast line of tanks didn't follow suit. I've only had this thing leak one time and that was because I put too much juice on it while priming and accidentally opened up the juice-flow while twisting the head shut.

I've never made a YouTube video, but I'm considering making one on how I wick the TF-RTA. The first time, it took me like half an hour, but now with this new method of mine, I can wick it almost as fast as the Baby Beast in less than 10 minutes. But, yes, if you don't have patience and a good degree of dexterity, the G4 TF-RTA can be a real challenge to coil and wick. Absolutely not for beginners who aren't used to say the velocity decks.

The swivel top is actually pretty good as I don't have to worry about an extra piece laying out when refilling. Easy two-handed refill without having to set something down or get my fingers greasy with juice and that gasket creates a damn good seal that doesn't leak when turned sideways or upside down. I can go on and say that the Baby Beast and the TF-RTA (at least mine) kind of locks into place when you close it as it has a tiny nipple or something while the gasket holds it in place (I have to gently push down on it as I close it and can hear a tiny tiny click in a very quiet room). I've never had it open on me accidentally.

However, and this has never failed, if you spill juice over onto that gasket, it gets underneath it and that gasket will pop out like a stripper from a cake and it'll never properly reseat again making it very difficult to close without some handy girdle-like work. I'm hoping I don't run across that with the TF-RTA.

The horizontal one is tricky enough with the limited space and four coils. I imagine it would take some extremely fancy plier work to get a vertical one to cooperate.

What wattage are you hitting that thing at? I can get it up to 115 on my Alien and have to take like a 6-second pull before it gets hot. The glass inside of the stainless steel really helps with temperature. And that's really the only thing I don't like about it, I can't stand stainless steel drip tips, especially if you don't lick your lips playboy-style after eating or something.

I just ordered a Kylin kitty cat RTA. The style and design of that deck intrigues me.

If the gasket gets juiced, rinsing and drying it completely should get it back feelin stuck again.....or ya could just try the spare I guess. I would think this would be ideal for vertical, any suggestions on a good tank for that style coils?

Funny I thought the warpage was because they made the top so dang sharp. The tfv4 gives me a papercut almost every time I fill it if im not careful lol. I have also used it upside down because the smooth side tends not to catch on the latch as much.

Now when it does warp, it's only a matter of time before it's shredded by the "latch".
