I have a set of four ball bearing swivels grounded and clamped to a board that I used to swivel my core wires.

I'm looking to clapton a single piece of .4 ribbon in 42g, but when I tried before (I only had two swivels at the time) I could get about half the ribbon claptoned, but it would start twisting eventually to the point that even straightening it out after its all done is probably useless.

My question.. does anyone have any tips for keeping the swivels spinning consistently or does any recommend any kind of oil added to the ball bearings? I tried using a high VG juice, but didn't work too well.

Thanks in advance.

Can you get one of these printed for yourself ?

it does away with the need for swivels
I had a similar one when Vaped3d first released one of those. Didn't work as well as I can do it with my hands I felt like.. Still bent the wire and I don't know if that will work for a single ribbon core.

Sampo makes really good ball bearing snap swivels. Some dry lube, spray or powder (I use graphite) helps.

Any teflon based spray would do as well as being cleaner .

Mustad makes really nice swivels, I suggest you only get swivels rated for 150lbs or more and have ATLEAST 3 or 4 in a row...You would be surprised how many swivels will kink up if they arent higher then that....I use 417lbs Rated Mustad Swivels now (5 daisy chained) and its the only setup Ive had that doesnt bind after a few wire lengths made.

I would get these: LINK

Mustad swivels are a notch below Sampo imo. They are in the SPRO or Gamakatsu class. Either one is more than adequate for this application, and with multiple swivels (overkill if they are properly lubed) they will get the job done and then some.

Just bought the 5 dollar pack of Mustad BB Coastlock #3 swivels from walmart tonight. They are only rated for 40-something lb test, but they worked fine for me on a 1 foot run of fused clapton using my auto-clapton rig.

If you're looking for good swivels, go to your local bait shop and pick up musky swivels. Not a brand, it's specifically for muskys and have amazing ball bearings in them.

As far as claptoning the ribbon, if non of the suggestions above work, try just using two pieces and making a fused ribbon.

Guys thanks for all the updates and tips. I managed to get it wrapped up after using a little lubrication on the bearings. I'm sure there will be cleaner results with the equipment suggested here, so I appreciate that very much. Here's a pic of the 42g around a single .4

New Macro Lens! If your Swivels get locked up let them soak in some Royal Purple Oil (Walmart Auto Section), it works VERY WELL.

I had a Fuji DSLR and it doesnt take great Macro pics even with its Macro Lens and settings. I use my Samsung Galaxy S3 with a clip on Macro kit and it works amazing.

I've seen the macro shots off these Panasonic cameras though and they look amazing. They say it can macro focus at 1cm.

I have 0 issues with my Spro swivels so far claptoning single core. Do I need better ones for fused?
