You can. It might not be the best stuff. I started out on drugstore (chemist's shop) cotton balls. What you want says "organic, unbleached." If it doesn't say that, I'd boil it in water for ten minutes, rinse it, and let it dry before using. It's actually a lot easier to just buy vaping wick, unless you are located in a part of the world where this is difficult.

Clothes dryer wicks. These are obviously from a mixed load, and I prefer the lint from an all white load, it's 99% cotton and to me has a cleaner taste. Sometimes I pick out the dog hairs, depends on how recently she was bathed. Scottish roll works well for this stuff.

Yes. Store cotton is fine... I use Walmart cotton balls. Can't tell deference. Between it and Japan stuff unless I see it first. I would recommend boiling it before use. To remove any excess cleaning agents. But then all cotton should be boil before vape use. If only because it works better after boiling and drying.
