Looking at getting my first Mechanical Box Mod

As the title says, I'm looking to get a Mechanical Box mod. Right now the only unregulated box mod I have is the Tuglyfe from Flawless, and the mosfet only lets you build to .15. From what I have gathered it's unregulated but since it has a mosfet it is not actually mechanical. Looking to build down to as low as a .1 or so, so should I go with something with a mosfet or without? I'm trying to go for something with the least voltage drop. The Dos Equis, Nookie Box Mod, Castigador all look very nice. Wondering if there is a big difference between the clones of these and the authentics. Any advice, recommendations, etc. is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention I am looking at a Parallel Mod. Thanks for the quick reply, though.

The Dos Equis and Castigador are awesome. I have an authentic and clone for the Dos Equis, the clone isn't bad, but the authentic definitely feels much nicer. The other main difference is the connector is more of a hybrid style on the authentic and a standard 510 on the clone. Also find the Dos Equis to be harder hitting than the Castigador. Suprisingly authentics of the Dos Equis aren't that hard to come by. I've seen several on Vape Trader and know of a shop that has 1.

If you want a bargain on an authentic go check out the MLA Trigger Happy at the Vaper Venue website, they have it marked down to $50. Just received 1 today and it is great. Battery adjustment is more fiddly than the Dos Equis and Castigador, but hits a great and the sqeeze style button is cool. I've seen the nookie and its nice, but also the largest of the bunch.

A few others I can think of are the Anubis, Dragons Den has a pre-order up for these. I don't know anything about them, but looks pretty nice and is under $100. The Nikita has a really cool switch and breaks down really easy for cleaning. Downside is that if you can find one it's $200+.

Yea definitely get a Parallel mod if you wanna build down to a .1, and use high rated batteries like a VTC4, other wise....BOOM.

As far as what to get, theres ton of options out there, clones and authentics. Personally Im looking at getting a Lucifer clone next (after my Hammer of God comes). Its switchable between parallel and series, plus it looks cool and has a trigger switch. I personally wouldnt get an authentic mech mod. Theres no chip to crap out, no electronics or screens or any other delicate shit in there, just very basic wiring and buttons. Most clones of mechs are almost dead on with minor differences. Idk, get what suits you best man.

the anubis seems nice but i have a problem with the polarity protection mechanism. if you check your wraps before you pop your batteries in then they should be installed with the plus towards the vent holes. the anubis forces you to install batteries with the minus at the vent holes. if a battery vents and expands in the chamber there is nowhere for the pressure to go but up!

Everyone loves the Noisy Cricket and it's inexpensive.
Dude, it's awesome that you're new here and already trying to help out. Most newbies are just takers. That being said...

PLEASE be careful with the advice that you give out. @Tom19841 had already stated that he is looking for something that will fire around 0.10Ω. The Noisy Cricket is a SERIES mech mod, and, as such, requires higher resistance sub-ohm builds (around 0.40Ω or higher with most batteries). If Tom hadn't have known this, and went out and bought a NC and put a 0.10Ω dual coil build on it, he would most likely follow up his first experience with a mech mod with a trip to the emergency room.

I'm new here but not new.

I should have expanded my response, what I meant was with the NC you wouldn't need to build so low to get the same vape. If someone is building 0.10 ohm they better already know what they are doing, even with a dual parallel device.

I agree I certainly should have been much more clear in my response.

I wouldnt hesitate on a Tres Equis, Dimitri, El Cabron Mod, EL Diablo Mod...or just about any other Pinoy mod out there...

Wondering if there is a big difference between the clones of these and the authentics.

My experiences with clones of authentic Phillipine made mods is that the clones are not near the quality of the authentic. Dos Equis paint peels and auto fires, the castigator spring on the battery hatch is awful, etc. etc. The tri equis surprisingly was not terrible but I had to fiddle with it for a solid connection.

Now all my authentics work great. They are easy to take apart and easy to clean and really solidly made. Yep. The price difference is huge. But if you plan on getting just one mechanical get a solid authentic. You will not regret it.

Now, you have a cheaper authentic parallel mech mod - the Tuglyfe by flawless ... it is solid. I like the button and it has a little protection in a mosfet. It will not fire below .15 though. For me that is fine as I have mods to fire my .1 ohm builds on too but truly .15 is still a great hit on a fresh battery. You are vaping at around 90+ watts there. Never had issue with my Tug ...

Love my Tres Equis clone, took a little loving to get it working just right but it's a champ. That's the one thing I'd note to be aware of when you get anything but especially a clone that likely doesn't have as much QA put into it. Don't just get it slap your batteries in and toss a .1Ω build on it. Get it, toss a .2Ω or so build on it, just in case the connections aren't great and vape it for a bit. Then toss your batteries in your charger and check the voltage readings to see if they were being drained equally. Just make sure things are working right before you assume they are. I ended up tossing a "pad" on top of the connection plate for my Tres Equis clone as well as polishing it all up nicely before it worked just right.

Anyways, all these guys know far better than I do, but just wanted to toss that out there, take it slow and make sure it's working right before you pull out the fun coils ;)

Yep, the Tres Equis clone was the best of the lot I tested. Thr local B=M owner is an old friend and he has given most of the clones to test for a day and to fix if they needed any work. The (I called it tri equis) has a nice feel, superior battery life, can handle low ohm builds and vapes well. You might have to tinker with the connection and the firing button - I did - but I got it working quite nicely. Still - the authentic is way better. You can feel and see the difference.

The Delrin has a different feel for sure and it feels more solid then the clone....I wish I bought the Red/Black version but I couldnt justify $60 for paint on 2 pieces...

When you buy any clone you realy need to know what you are doing. I always - yes always - take ay mech clone apart, see what is going on, make any necessary adjustments and then vape. Of course, I'm testing for a store. They need to know it is safe and reliable. But I find enough issues with clones to make me inspect carefully. I've seen buttons prone to auto firing, poor insulators, crappy negative springs, too much hot glue and many more issues.

The Tres Equis, even though among the better clones, is prone to some issues - auto firing etc. You need to check the firing mechanism. You cannot walk around with it in your pocket with the batteries inserted. Of course you really should not do that with any mod - even a regulated.

Now a few of us are a bit insane with our builds. Some of us - not pointing fingers - love our mech mods and do push them to their limits. New users really need to be aware of what is safe. When I give advice my advice is what you should do not always what I actually do, lol. So when you get your new mech - clean and inspect it carefully. Understand how it works. Check resistance against battery drain and amp draw. After your first use make sure those batteries are draining balanced.

So you have a Tuglyfe - which I really like - and don't like the fact that it actually protects you. I understand that. I have both the Cuboid and the Stout and cannot vape above certain watts with some of my atomizers. At times it is annoying. Just do be careful.
