I've pretty much tried all the wicking mediums and until recently used cotton in all my builds.

I was a little leery due to the price but gave in and bought a couple of feet of ReadyXwick 3mm.

After trying it I ordered more (slim). This stuff is by far the best wicking material that I have tried.

It won't burn, is extremely absorbent and last forever.

I can see a couple of feet of this lasting me a year.

Although I haven't used it in a Protank I think the slim wick would be well suited for that application.

The 3mm wick is fantastic. I wind a 28ga 3mm coil @ 1.25 Ω and the 3mm wick slides right in due to it not fraying when cut and it's a perfect fit.

I've been running this set up all day for 2 weeks and the only thing getting dirty is the coil.

I forgot to mention that there is no funny taste or break in period with this wicking material, which makes it even more awesome.

I really like ready x wick. Just have to be careful not to wrap the coil to tight when you wrap directly on the wick.

From their site. There's a video there also. http://rbasupplies.com/READYxWICK.html

READYxWICK™

Is a ceramic based wicking material that has been heat treated to well OVER the suggested heat treatment schedule of 1652°F for 12+ hours to ensure that we are producing the safest product possible on the market today. Our exact and proprietary heating method and schedule (Time, Temp, and Steps) is a protected secret, but we have spent months and treated thousands of feet of ceramic wick perfecting and producing the absolute best results with our unique and proprietary treatment schedule and method.

During this process the toxins are released from the material and the fibers are bonded together. This process is absolutely necessary. Any untreated Ceramic Wick should never be used.

So basically it's XC16 or whatever that other stuff is but treated so they heated it so you don't have to and gave it a fancy name?

Yeah, sounds like XC-116 to me. Extra heat treated though. Lol.

So wanting to try this but that price for it was holding me back. So question does it enhance the flavor like many are saying or is it just better cause it can be cleaned and used again? Either way seems like the high cost now is manageable if it last for a while.

Not even going to lie though. I was half expecting them to vape on the clean motor oil wick.

Ive found the readyxwick does enhance the flavor of juice. You are getting a cleaner taste and yes it lasts for quite awhile. Its worth the cost because you are not having to replace it every couple of days like silica or cotton, but this is just my opinion ;)

It's certainly quite a bit pricey. Though I have to give it a shot just out of curiosity. Certainly sounds more appealing than Rayon or some other wicking "fads".

One thing that is a bit interesting is the disclaimer on the site. What's up with the legal hammer of doom? I don't see how they would have ground to stand on, since you're not signing anything but still its interesting why it would be even mentioned.

THIS PRODUCT MUST REMAIN IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA It is illegal to export this product outside of the USA.

Failure to comply with this regulation may result in fines and penalties up to and exceeding $750,000.00 PER INFRACTION.

That's not them threatening you, that's a law - the government threatening you.
The stuff is classified as "technology you can't export". They're not ALLOWED to ship it outside the US.
Usually you see that with computer chips...

And yeah, it's pricey, but here's the thing: its INDESTRUCTIBLE.
You can clean and re-use.
If you get a coil and wick going well, you can run the thing for months...

I think you misunderstood what I posted. I wasn't saying that it was a threat. I am simply curious as to why this exists. What government mandate would prevent ceramic based fibers from being exported? Is it a government mandate at all or something the vendor is stating?

Like I said, I am going to be placing an order for it to try it out and review. It is coming with a lot of high praise and personally I feel a bit better about this stuff than other wicking material.

It exixts because the product is protected by the U.S. government. It is used in a lot of equipment like space shuttles and the like.

Readywick is good stuff. I have old x16 that I got from some place in texas and man it was pretty bad. Frayed like mad and just seemed off and they claimed it was kiln fired as well but this readywick whatever process they use really does the trick because it is night and day compared to my old stuff. I have found for me it takes about 1-2 ml to fully break in (flavor will be muted and vapor a little light but no funny tastes) on a new wick and after that its smooth sailing.

One of the great things about it is You dont really get a "nasty dry hit" like you do with other stuff. When it dry hits the vapor and flavor just kinda mute's out and thats about it. It also wicks like a beast. Better than my cotton and I have like every cotton known to man that CVS and Walgreens sells but can not speak to the Japanese pads or rayon. Juice touches the wick and instantly spreads.

One foot of the slim did 3 Ithaka's(2 2" wicks per ithaka if your not familiar with them) and so far they have been bullet proof. Does not fray or pull apart and a good dry fire or torch and they are brand new again. This is not like a regular wick like silica where it starts to fray and break I really think these 6 wicks will last a long, long time so really when you think about it the price is very cheap unless your doing $3 bags of cotton.

I got tired of switching out cotton so often. I tend to vape only one or two tanks at a time and cotton will start to naturally rot after a week(you can tell because the wicking will start to greatly gegrade)so I would have to switch out cotton on tanks I had not vaped on so its nice to know I can let one sit and a month later it will vape like new.

I actually just picked up another foot of slim and a foot of 3mm and there is no doubt in my mind it will last me the rest of the year if not longer so for $11 shipped its really worth it to try it out imo. Hope this helps people on the fence about it.

Hi @Dhim, Jeremy here with RBA Supplies, creator of READYxWICK™... Thank you for your question, it is one that gets asked often. The reason that it is "illegal to export" is that it is United States protected technology. More specifically, it is protected because the US Govt utilizes this stuff to to thinks like shield wiring in missiles with. Because of it's heat resistance it is the perfect material to shield wires from the heat produced inside the chamber of a missile. For obvious reasons, the US Govt doesn't want to have material which could aid other countries, some not so friendly with materials that could be utilized to make such devices.

It's a silly law, and realistically pretty crazy... BUT... as a seller of the material, I HAVE to do my "due diligence" to legally inform my customers that this material is NOT allowed to be exported. If I don't put the disclaimer in, then I could be found liable for such a breach. This is also why we serial number every package that goes out with an authentic holographic serial #, with packaging that also clearly states the regulation restrictions.

If for example, this product were to end up outside of our country and if the govt were to discover it, they would very likely contact me as I am the largest distributor of the product by far, not to mention our company name is all over the package. When they would contact me, they would likely ask me for proof that I did not ship the product myself outside of the USA, which I would be able to adequately provide them by tracing the serial number to a specific sale, or to a wholesaling brick and mortar. (who do actually have to sign an agreement to carry our product ensuring that they will also forward the message regarding the necessity for it to remain within the USA).

Or basically the short answer is... I put the disclaimer on there to cover my ass so that we can show proof that we are doing our best to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the United States Of America. I'm a nice guy, but not nice enough to pay $750,000.00 because some silly shit gets caught for smuggling an illegal substance outside of our borders.

With that said, I would LOVE to be able to sell overseas... my market would EXPLODE (come to think of it that might be a poor word to use here lol)... but I too have to remain within compliance.

I'll just have to settle for providing the best damn wicking material known to man to my United States based customers! :)

Thank you for your question though, as it is one that many people naturally are curious about!

- Jeremy

@LucidiousRage Well said and its completely understandable. Just to clarify I wasn't going after you for having that, I was just curious as to what was the reasoning behind it. I think it's safe to say you did just fine explaining. You certainly found yourself a customer in me. I'll be placing an order later to review the product (and of course to try it out). It's tempting, but going from bed to wallet is just not happening at 3:20am!

LOL @Dhim, I feel ya on the bed statement, I'm going to head there myself after I hit "post" lol. As far as you clarifying, "no worries" mate! Listen, I'm not one of those vendors who fear questions or get upset by people asking them. I'm actually happy to hear them. I built my business model 100% on customer satisfaction. In fact, I started my company because I felt that I could "do it better" than the other guy (who happened to be that not so great guy that was from Texas that someone mentioned in an earlier post). Anyway, seriously, thank you for your question. ALL questions are welcome here and I'm just happy that I finally have a forum where I can get involved with answering them without fearing being banned for life! THANK YOU for participating in this thread! :)

Hey Lucidious I am sure this has been asked of you a hundred times but do they have any other sizes besides the two you carry? I know quite a few who would love a size right in between the two you have but I get the feeling this is something made for military/government type use and we are just lucky it works in our application. 2.5mm would rock. Thanks in advance.

This stuff looks fascinating. I've been using cotton exclusively for quite a while now and am excited to try something new. I'm an impatient sumbitch though and am wondering if there is a list of vendors who carry ReadyXWick? I'm blessed to live in a vapers paradise (Dallas/Ft Worth area) and would love to pick some up locally if possible. I didn't see a vendor list on the site.

I use RXW in about everything, from ProTank 2 heads to the Zen Standard. I use the slim in my Aqua clone and currently have a Stillare w/ dual Clapton coil @.26 with 3mm RXW.

Does anyone use ReadyXwick to build their Kayfun lite Black Editions? If so, how?
I have tried it with both sizes. I can't get it to give me as good of a vape as cotton.

I did use it worth me steam turbine and it was pretty good.

If I could get it to work on my kayfun my life would be one step closer to perfect lol

I seem to be one of the few that do not like Readyxwick. I love the way it cleans up with a torch but that is it. I don't like the flavor. I am extremely freaked out by all of the ceramic flakes that come off of it. If you touch it with your finger even when it is soaked with eliquid you will get a sludge of ceramic flakes and juice on your finger. I believe that I am inhaling the ceramic flakes or dust into my lungs and I am not ok with it. I did not find that it wicked any better than silica or cotton.

^^^^^ And this is why there are so many choices out there! :)

One thing will not work for everyone. I mean look.....RxW, cotton, hemp, wire mesh, hard ceramic, silica.........

But as far as the "flakes", if you talk with Rage or go on his site, all that is explained.

Works great on pyrex rsst & dual coil pyrex rsst as a sleeve over 3/32 ss wire rope. Tried to upload some pics but says file size too large. I'll try again later.

please do! I don't know what you mean by using it as a sleeve. Thanks!

@Smokenmist I’m glad you brought this topic up as it is a valid concern, and one that I often talk to customers about when they call…

In terms of “safety”… the fact that you can SEE the particles is actually a GOOD thing. I know that sounds strange, but please allow me to explain. In terms of what the scientific community feels is regarded as a “non-health risk” in terms of particle size, the guidelines are this:

Anything UNDER 5 “microns” in size and under (that is the unit of measure for particle sizes) is generally considered TO BE a health risk. The reason for this is that this particle size (5 microns and UNDER) can penetrate flesh. So when you inhale it, it can lodge itself into your flesh and fester, possibly causing cancer.

Anything OVER 5 microns is generally considered by the scientific community to be a NON-Health risk. The reason for this, is just the opposite of the example above. Anything OVER 5 microns can generally NOT penetrate flesh, and passes through the system just the dust particles that we breathe that are floating around in the air would do.

This is what makes silica so dangerous. The “dust” particles ARE there, they are just so fine that you can’t SEE them as easily.

The fact that you CAN see them with READYxWICK is in fact a GOOD thing. READYxWICK’s particle size has been measured and found to be between 7 and 13 microns in size, most of which are actually registered in the 10-12 particle size. This size means that although you CAN see them, according to scientific research, they are not considered to be a “health risk”.

Another thing to consider of the fabric based materials before they break down and become unusable is the following (on average):

The average life span of a wick made of ekowool is about 1-2 weeks.

The average life span of a wick made of silica is about 1-2 weeks at most.

The average life span of a wick made of cotton is 1-4 days

The average life span of a wick made of READYxWICK is 1 to 6 MONTHS (or more)

So why is that important?

The first reaction is usually “Wow RxW lasts FOREVER! That’s one of the reasons that it’s so great!”

But it’s MUCH more important than that… and here is where I address your concerns of the “flaking” that you have noticed with RxW, and the answer is really simple when you think it through…

Cotton, Silica, Ekowool, etc, all break down pretty quickly and have at most a lifespan of a couple of weeks, so what happens that makes us change those wicks out? Simple right? They break down and become unusable. BUT… the important question is this…

If the materials are breaking down so quickly… where do you think the materials that have broken down end up? Yup, you guessed it, you inhale them. And that’s what makes READYxWICK so great! It’s not that it lasts forever, it’s that it doesn’t break down so quickly, which means that all those fibers and materials that you would otherwise be inhaling, you don’t have that problem with RxW. Can you get noticeable flakes on your fingers if you rub the material? Yes, sometimes you can, but this is because those flakes get locked into the material and stay put unless you force them loose by rubbing them. And remember, IF they do break loose, they are generally not considered to be a health risk by the scientific community because of their particle size (7-13 microns).

So the question really should be, do you want to use a material (cotton, silica, ekowool, hemp) that breaks down and ends up being partially inhaled over a 1-14 day breakdown period – OR- would you rather use a material that has been known to last 150+ days? To me, the answer is pretty obvious. A material that can last 150+ days is the winner because of one simple fact… if it lasts that long, it means it’s NOT breaking down, which means that I’m NOT inhaling breakdown particles during my vape.

@Smokenmist I truly do appreciate you bringing this question to the table and I hope that I have been able to shed some light on a proper answer to your concerns. Many people have asked the same question and once they have a more clear picture of what’s going on, they usually feel MUCH more comfortable in using the product!

And this is also the most likely reason for the taste in cotton and organic compounds rather than the man made fibers. Just because something is ORGANIC does not make it healthy. If you can taste it odds are you are inhaling small particles, in my opinion. There are many workers in grain silos and flower mills, etc that in the past who worked without protection may have lung problems.

This is my opinion only and I can not back this up with out trying, so dont take my word for anything. Just think about it.

A tip for you readyxwick users. I noticed that if you rinse the wick and your atty out in really hot tap water, and not torch it. You will not see the mushyness mentioned earlier. The heat from the hot water on the atty and a pat down with a papertowel gets mine clean enough to make it really white even with tobacco absolute. A lot easier when changing flavors also. I can pat it dry and keep going. The 1st couple of pulls dries it out the rest of the way!
give it a try!
