Flavor not as potent after steep

So I have a simple mix that I love it's
8 % caps vc v1
5 % caps French vanilla

At shake and vape it's perfect. What I want from diy custard base to build from there.

So I mixed up 60 mls and steeped it for a month tasting it in intervals. At the end of the steep the flavor has subdued.

Is it possible that I need to use less flavoring percentages to compensate for the steep?

I just thought I wasn't using enough flavoring but vaping it shake and vape is great after steep not so much.

Your amounts are pretty good IMO, just than many ppl think the Custard is too bold fresh and needs steep time to calm down.
You don't have to steep it if you like it better fresh, and it saves you the pain of waiting for a month too...

Did you have nic in the mix? Remember, the degradation of nic and oxygen can affect flavor.

My opion, even a mix without nic can have the same issue. Personally I believe our flavors break down whenexposed to clean air. I know people will call me crazy thinking that way.

If it's a shake and vape, VAPE IT. I've made some mixes that were S&V and other like Dark Fruits and Tobacco that have taken months to steep.

I do have nic in the mix but it hasn't gone bad. Honestly my opinion is that because they are mixed in 60 ml glass bottles it needs to steep longer possibly.

I guess i'm won of the weird ones that like it fresh. It seems to lose the sweetness of the vanilla when I let it steep. I knew I wasn't using to much just wondering if it was a case of getting more for less with less flavoring.

I've found that some custard vapes take a little time, some are great as a shake and vape. I've never been patient enough to let anything steep for a month unless I have at least 240ml of it, though. Most make it only about a week before I can't stand to wait anymore.:D

Really don't see that being a factor ... glass will just be 'cleaner' i.e. less chance of flavor contamination from something previously in the bottle.

If it's a shake and vape, VAPE IT.

Really I think that Zamazam and Heabob are pointing the way for you ..

it's just like cooking ... some things are best right off the stove and others (chili / stew) are much better the next day ...

not everything NEEDS to steep! I have several juices that are best right off but after a week, two, or four they have definately changed their flavor, many times losing 'punch' or flavor definition.

I guess i'm won of the weird ones that like it fresh. It seems to lose the sweetness

think I might share this a bit with you .. have had this happen to me before as well.. just lose that sweetness

I agree with that also. Plastic is more permeable to air.
Try only putting 50ml in a 60ml bottle. I've found that sometimes helps.

Nope, just as long as the flavors are mixed in very well, even more so if using high VG.
Because the higher amount the base is, the better it needs to be mixed.
Even steeping for a day or 2 helps some, but I think it has more to do with the flavors having more time to permeate the VG/PG base better.
Becoming more thoroughly mixed in that is.

I meant the amount of volume in the glass. I have heard anything over 30ml takes longer to steep.

I actually have noticed if i leave a little air things do taste better for the custards. Maybe this is the key. Will mix a 60 ml and a 50 ml in a 60ml bottle see whats what.

Its for sure mixed well. Also I have a 50/50 mix so its not vg heavy

What I want from diy custard base to build from there.

This doesn't address your steeping question; that's all pretty mysterious, and to each his own, as far as I'm concerned. For me, these percentages would be perfect for a finished vape with the two ingredients you listed.

But since you mentioned building on it as a base, I would consider taking the percentages down proportionally so that you have "room" to add fruit (or other) flavorings without overloading it.

For example, if you planned to add other flavors you might take each ingredient down by 1/3rd or 1/4th A quarter down would be 6% Cap V.C. and 3.75% French V., for a total of 9.75%. I'm sure you can do the math to make what alterations (if any) you want for other proportional decreases. I've found this a really useful way to adapt basic flavor combos I like, but want to change & exp. with.

Thanks for that. I haven't started adding other ingredients but I want to in the future. Trying to get this simple combo down first then move on from there. I will heed your advice when I do.
