Nic question...

I just got a liter of nic from Nicotine River. I love NR and order from them often but this is my first nic order. I opened the jug to divide it into smaller bottles for the freezer and it smells awful!! Like gas, or petroleum. I don't remember any other nic I've gotten from other places smelling like that. It has a slight tinge of pink to it too... Anyone else have this??

I would call NR. That sounds hazardous if you ask me.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

It does sound like it could be old, or something. I've not ordered their nic. I think @AmandaD has. Do you happen to have a test kit, to test the strength of it?

Have you shaked the jug a bit before opening it?
Sometimes the nic can surface and give the rest a pungent smell. Other than that, give the vendor a call...

I have a sample bottle in my fridge - it's very clean. Is yours in VG? If so you do have to shake it well (mine's in PG).

It's in pg and I shook the beegeezus out of it. And I don't have a test kit,,,,, I KNOW!!! I should. But I don't. Too trusting I guess. I've ordered nic from a few places and never had it smell like this. And I've always had good luck with NR. . I'm sure they'll make it right. I emailed them, probly hear from them tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys,,,

Hi kimber,

First off, I would like to apologize for what happened with your nicotine blend. From reading your other post, you have already notified us, but please provide just your invoice number one more time. I want to make sure your order correction is at the top of our list.

As for your question regarding smell and color, there are many factors that could have led to the current issue and some of which are outside both of our controls. I want to assure you that we, at Nicotine River, take quality control very seriously and do our very best to meet and exceed expectations. Now to the actual question, the smell would most likely originate from the nicotine itself and that would be from the chemicals used in the extraction, distillation, and purification process of obtaining nicotine from tobacco plants. I will get in touch with nicselect to investigate this issue so that corrective measures can be implemented as soon as possible.

Regarding coloration of the nicotine blend, that can be attributed to a combination of the prominent antagonists of nicotine and those are heat, UV light, and oxygen. To hinder the activities of UV light and oxygen interactions, our nicotine blends are nitrogen packaged and placed in opaque HDPE plastic bottles. As for heat, while our blends are clear as water upon are packaging, we are unable to control the temperature of the shipping process once it leaves our facility. But, I am currently investigating ways to reduce temperature fluctuations during the delivery process especially as the summer temperatures creep ever closer.

Again, I am sorry about your order and that it will be corrected. We hope that you will give us another chance to earn your trust.

Was just thinking on this last week with the heat spell we had this way.. perhaps an option for dry ice packing @ cost plus small handling.. don't see any other way, and that one is not easy but it would seem doable ..

@Nicotine_River_Chemist ... First off I want to say that I love you guys!! I've ordered several times and always been more than happy. Had one small issue ( wrong size sent to me) which was immediately fixed on a previous order. Your customer service is superb and I always recommend you and always will. This nicotine thing,,, I kept thinking it can't be, I've never ever gotten anything bad from NR. And I didn't intend for it to be a complaint,, I was just concerned about using it. I never thought about the heat but I understand how that could be bad and that you certainly can't control that. But I so appreciate your quick response and your willingness to replace it. I truly feel you're one of the best vendors to get supplies from and I guarantee I'll continue to order from you. Seriously, customer service is everything and you guys have it!!!

Thanks again. BTW, it was order #10361
Now I gotta go sing your praises elsewhere on this forum

Yes, just watching the news or even going outside I feel the heat and can only imagine what the packages go through. I did not consider dry ice as an option and now will look into that being a potential method, so thank you for your suggestion Foggz. If all goes well, I am hoping to have something in place that is both cost effective and implemented before the summer heat waves really kick in.

Thank you very much. Kimber, never fear in informing us if something happened. Things happen and that is life, while it irks us to know that such an event occurred and thus prompted concern in the quality of our product, it is more important to us, to you, and the community itself, to know that there is trust in the product we manufacture. I saw your email, remade your order, and a replacement went out today. Check your email for the necessary information and hope that upon delivery you are satisfied with your product. Our customer service is only as good as you allow us to be, so thank you for everything.

But, I am currently investigating ways to reduce temperature fluctuations during the delivery process especially as the summer temperatures creep ever closer.

Medications being sent UPS, that are heat sensitive, are packaged as so:
Inside the card board box, it is lined with 1 inch thick styrene on ALL fours sides. Depending on the transit time (usually a 24 hour delivery) as to how many freeze packs are tossed in the box.

Anything that is in transit more than 48 hours, is really hard to control the internal temp of contents.

All this adds a lot of expense to a shipment. From the cost of the ice packs, the styrene, to the faster ship methods.

@Nicotine_River_Chemist First of all welcome to the great vaping community (vaping underground).

I placed couple of orders from your site and those were fine with no issues, quite honestly never had any experience of your customer service but to my surprise I got call yesterday from your customer representative regarding my recent order that 'one of the flavor was out of stock,so we can't ship you that', I told her when I placed order that was there and now after (almost) 2 working days you are telling me this'. To my surprise I got 2 option either get refund or cancel the order.

I choose the 2nd option and Cancel the order, I would love to pay some extra money to get Fast shipping and Excellent Customer Service places such as http://www.bullcityvapor.com/ or http://mamajsflavorshop.com/ and for nicotine http://www.chemnic.com/

All the NicSelect nicotine I've order I could describe similarly to the OP's description. Pungent on the nose, not particularly pleasant. More than just the earthy smell that is part and parcel with the way their nic is extracted. It's acceptable to vape, not overly peppery. Smooth enough. But it's definitely a disappointment, and is a reason I can't simply use NR as my one stop shop for nic and flavors. I've spent, and will continue to spend hundreds of dollars with them for a lot of my flavoring needs, though. Their prices are great, and they've been a breeze to do business with.

I didn't say odorless,,, there's always a slight odor but it's not an awful petroleum stink. I'm very happy with NR.
