Hints or guides for the SMOK TFV4 RBA wicking.

Hi fellow vapers.

Today I decided to use one of my least used tanks, the SMOK TFV4 Mini.
I have never used it often, due to the stock coils being power and juice monsters mainly, and also preferring RTA's.

I have purchased the dual coil RBA, but currently am trying to use the single coil RBA that comes with the kit.
I have made a 1Ohm, 26G 2.5MM ID single coil, that tastes lovely, but every say 8 hits, I get a dry hit, and have to close off all the airflow holes, and suck hard to get a bubble to pop up, and wait for it to wick, before using again.

I would really like to be able to use it without having to do this though, so does anyone have any tips, hints or know of a good guide for wicking the TFV4 RBA?

I am using it at around 20W (Plenty of vapour for me, the TFV4 was purchased at a different time and was not the best choice for me, but if I can get it working well like this it will get a lot more use, as flavour is actually pretty good with a different drip tip, plus I like the way it fills).

Thanks everyone, Conan.

I had the best luck cutting the wick at the top of the juice channel, fluffing it up, put the cap on, pull the wick up, then carefully prod it down with a piece of wire or a pick so it sits on top of the juice channel. With 20pg/80vg. Would probably flood with a thinner juice with this method.

Side note: I have the dual rba as well. Would not wick higher vg at all. I even filled the tank with no cotton in the coils and it did not flood. I had to modify it by drilling out holes in the cap for wicking. I think it is not really made for the mini but the full size. Eventhough it is marketed as such. Just doesn't leave any room at the base and snug between the glass and cap.

Thank you, this does seem to help wicking, also a lower wattage seems to work better with the coil I am using(17.5W).

I know the TFV4 is more of a mad tank, designed for huge clouds, but it seems pretty nice with the Single coil RBA working correctly.

That brings up a good point, the reason I am not using the dual coil RBA I purchased is that I have never once managed to wick that correctly. I own a lot of tanks, even the most finicky to wick such as orchids, but nothing worked.

Do you have any images of the modifications you have done to the dual coil base? As I have the tools to modify it myself, I just want to ensure i am doing so correctly-I will PM you if you don't mind.

Thank you for your help, Conan.

Rough picture but shows where i pot the holes.

I took the rba deck off the base, put the chimney cap on, and used a punch to mark where the holes need to be (also to make a pilot hole) then drilled it out and sanded the rough edges. Cant remember size of drillbit, but did a little trial and error starting small until I got good wicking.

I have 2 TFV4's (not the mini). One is still unopened. To me it's a tank made for people that want to use factory heads (I'm not one of those people). If you want to build, there are a lot of better choices out there. That's why I never use mine and one is still factory sealed. I look at it like this, if you want to build, get a RTA because that is what it's designed for. To me the TFV4 is designed to use the prebuilt heads and the RBA deck is just to say it can do this too. It's like buying a truck and trying to turn it into a sports car, why not just buy a sports car. No matter what you do, it's not going to function as a sports car as well as a sports car will. In other word use things in the way they were designed to be used. Just my 2 cents.

I completely agree with you here, it is just I own so many tanks that are RTA's I would like to be able to use this tank as well in rotation.
If I can't, and it is best with the OG coils (Which I can not deny it is, but these coils are very thirsty, and I don't enjoy the power they require.

If I knew of the TF RTA, I would of got that, but I got this long before that was announced.

As you know, I have quite a few tanks in the collection, mostly RTA or converted with RBA, but it would be nice to be able to use it. If not, I guess it could always go to someone else who would enjoy the TFV4 more than I do with stock coils. :).

I agree with wingsfan, but my modified dual rba is way better than just the single. But not as good as my rta's, so it sits on the shelf a good bit. Likely gonna be a PIF starter kit for my friend soon.

Hi there BKTOAD. I modified my dual coil base just now, and must say, I am pleased.

I didn't have a metal drill bit, so I used a small cutting disk on my dremel to put notches in-at the bottom juice can not seep up due to the way it is threaded, but the slits have left holes for the juice just where you have put yours. It is working good now. Finally am pleased with the performance of the TFV4, and it took seconds to do, plus I can see bubbles replacing juice to the dry wicks as it should. Very pleased I can use this tank now in rotation.

I have all 4 tanks (micro,mini,v4 & v8). All have the rba ability. IMHO I love the rba's to all of mine!
Luckily enough I had a friend show me how you perfect these tanks.
It is as simple as this . wick as normal but only leaving a few mm's off the coil/coils.
Simply put....
Wick and cut at the threads, pull up all cotton.
Thin out on ends (if ness.)
Screw on cap.
(carefully) tuck ends
Fill
Let sit a few mins
Then vape
