I was going to get into diy ejuice and was gonna order the starter kit from liquid barn. When I add the nic to kit they ask vg or pg? It comes 48mg/ml. Just wondering which one everyone uses. Thanks

Perhaps the correct answer may be more based on what percentage of PG/VG and nicotine level you wish your finished mixed juice to be,

I always get mine in PG, plus I do happen to be a high PG vaper. I've seen many mixers post that they get their nic in high PG even though they vape high VG, because it's easier to mix with and easier to roll or shake up. VG is quite a bit thicker than PG.

I agree and have always chosen PG.(100mg) If one selects the LB PG, the 48mg strength level can be limiting if high VG mixes are desired. When I plugged that nic. into my ejuice me up program and added 15% of PG based flavoring (my favorite Cap Tangerine amount :)) with a 12% nic. level, the highest VG level would seem to be 60%.

60% VG juice works for me. :bliss:

Certainly different nic. strength levels and flavoring choices can vary the final mix and boost VG %....

It's VG/PG not PG/VG

Especially if you keep your nic base in the freezer.

Personally, I use VG based nic but just because I make 80/20 500ml batches and pop a full 100ml PG bottle in there, otherwise I would have been using PG based.

I use 50/50 - PG is preferable here due to the ease of mixing, as has been noted, but I mix a lot of high-VG liquid and the 50/50 compromise gets me a couple extra percentage points toward the V. No way I'd want to risk hot spots from not properly mixing 100VG, plus I'm still mixing with syringes, which would make VG a nightmare.

I buy my Nicotine in VG as I try to mix mostly High or Max VG recipes. No problems with using syringes for VG IMHO

Don't forget to shake your base liquids.

I'm going for a 70/30 mix with 6mg of nic. So I'll poll go with pg nic because seems easier to mix and I am a noob to all this. I will try and get the 100mg nic. I'll just try and order the nic separately because with the starter kit you can only add the 48mg. Thanks guys..

I think the issue of ease of mixing is completely overstated. Up to this point in time I've gone with 100% VG. After I've broken a liter down into smaller bottles, all I do to get it ready for mixing is take one of the 120ml amber glass bottles out of the freezer, rotate for 1-2 minutes under cold water at the sink (which serves both to mix it for nic hot spots and warms it up enough that it's less viscous), and then open the bottle at my mixing table a stir a couple rotations with the dripper. Never experienced any hot spots this way, and by the time I've measured and poured in my flavorings, the nic is ready and very easily gets measured out into my 30ml or 60ml syringe. In my experience it's a breeze to work with.

On the other hand, with my last liter purchase, and from here on out, I'll only be buying in 100% PG. I've read that PG is better for long term storage of nic. PG degrades less quickly than VG (we're talking after 1 or more like 2 years of storage). And nic in PG oxidizes less quickly than in VG, since the higher viscosity of VG allows little air bubbles to hang around in the liquid for longer. With the vaping apocalypse upon us, I'm trying to do everything I can to ensure that the nic I'm stocking up on lasts as long as possible, and it seems like using 100% PG is one thing I can control that can help in that regard.

Do you use a needle with the syringes? If so what gauge?

Thanks!

No, I don't use a needle. I use 120ml amber glass bottles for my VG, PG, and nic. So if I'm making 30ml or less of juice, what I do is take the plunger out of my 30ml syringe, then poor in nic, then VG, then PG according to the recipe I'm using. Then pop the plunger back in and dispense. Without a needle VG just flies through a 30ml and up syringe. For flavorings I use a 3ml syringe without a dropper, and if I'm making more that 30ml of juice I'll use my 60ml syringe for the PG, VG, and nic.

After a month or so of use the rubber part of the plunger of a 30ml syringe will start want to get loose when pulling out the plunger, so I've gotten in the habit of putting and rubbing on a few drops of PG when I first go to mix a bottle of juice. I've been using my current 30ml syringe for 6+ months now, with the numbers coated in clear nail polish.

I know everyone has their own methods of mixing, but I go through about a gallon of 100mg nic in a year, and this method works great for me. :)

It seems your & my method is very much different! I use VG to lube my syringes. :D

My only reason is that I usually have a squeeze bottle of VG on my mixing tray, but none handy with PG. I'm glad to learn that PG works too. Thanks!

I can only hope no forum argument initiates as to which PG/VG mix % is best for syringe lube.

VG might well work better, but since I mix juice averaged out at probably a 60VG/40PG ration (mine and my customer's juice combined), I've got more PG laying around to use! Every drop counts! :giggle:
