Hi Folks,

I am looking to purchase a new mod - I am considering either a Smok H-Priv 220w or a Kanger KBox 200w. Does anybody have an opinion as to which might be better?

Thanks in advance :)

It depends on what you like. I won a H-Priv and gave it to my best friend for him to have a new mod, it not that either one are bad. The kanger is a button fire switch, where the H-Priv fire switch is the full red bar on the side. both mod run in series. the only differences I saw were that the H-Priv has a few more bells and its able to go up to 220.

Thanks for the reply @schuler :) Can I ask - have you held the H-Priv in your hands? Does the fire bar feel flimsy or like it wouldnt last very long - that is the mod I am kind of leaning toward unless I just opt for an iStick 100 ... so many choices these days.

Wow @Trusty_vapor Good to know. Thanks so much for sharing this. It just proves even if the brand is usually a good one, it pays to do the research!

I have had the eleaf tc 100 and the h-priv in my hand and used it. the fire doesn't feel weak or flimlys however it does wiggle a bit. I don't feel you could go wrong with either one of those 2 mods depend on the wattage your trying to get to.

TBH Neither company has a reputation of making great mods imo. How much are you looking to spend? Are you planning on using TC or just power mode? One last thing - 200 watts out of 2 x 18650 is really pushing it, 220 watts is just plain ridiculous. About the most you are going to squeeze out of an 18650 is 75 watts - 2 = 150 watts. Be safe!

Cheers,
Steve

Couldn't agree more, SMOK and Kanger make the worst advanced mods in the industry, SMOK is only good for tanks and Kanger is good for simple variable wattage entry-level mods, if you want to go the higher power route stick with Joyetech/Wismec/Eleaf for budgets setups, IPV5/6 for medium budget and DNA or HohmTech if money is not an issue, also do not hope for any true 200W out of a 2 battery mod that is if you even going to use it, anything that could do 100+W is good enough for 99.9% of vapers, forget about theoretical max wattage and focus on chip consistency, features, usability etc ..

I am not looking to do any vaping above say 80w its more that all I have are mini mods and I am looking to get something full size before the boom gets lowered. I am staying away from 3 battery mods because they are too big for my hands. But I really appreciate the warning! Is there something else I should consider?

I appreciate the warning. Haven't HohmTech had their own issues with quality? I think I watched a pbusardo video where that was the case.

Thanks for replying - I am leaning more toward the Eleaf now because of the additional comments but I also want something that is going to last.

Hi Cinnful,

I'm not a fan of 3 battery mods either. To me they are like carrying around a brick, not pocket friendly at all. At the time of my post I was going to suggest a Hcigar VT133, it uses a DNA200 chip. But since it uses 2 x 18650's it's limited to 133 watts. It's really a great mod (I have 3), great chip, and great battery life. It was on a smoking hot sale for $80 at ecig.com but unfortunately they sold out. I wasn't sure if you needed 200 watts or if $80 was over your budget so I didn't mention it at the time.

Cheers,
Steve

Edit Another pretty decent mod that's really a great price right now is the IPV5, however the IPV6 is either out now or will be shortlt and it looks to have a more ergonomic design. They both use Yihi chips. The DNA200 is an Evolv chip. Those are the companies that I think make the best chips.

That was not a "production quality" issue, the sample Phil tested was a pre-production review sample that had an issue with the battery connectors that was later fixed in retail production, also the problem Phil had was unique to the tank he was using for the test, later Phil invited Hohm co-founder and spokesman and he demonstrated for him the mod doing Kanthal TC and a bunch of other stuff, you can find this video in Phil's channel, the HohmTech chip is actually great and is one of the most advanced in the market if not the most advanced ever, the best 3 chips are Hohm FSK, DNA, and Yihi followed by the Joyetech board found in Joyetech, Eleaf and Wismec TC products, i would stick with one of these four chips depending on your budget.

$80 is within my budget - I will take a look at the ones you mentioned. Thanks for replying!
