(GearBest) Photo ID Sensitive info?

Eciggity had at least 2 of those. I think the Boreas and the Velocity.
Funny thing...not sure where to post this. Placed order with gearbest for my nephew. Paid via his bank card. They now want us to provide a color photo of his license and bank card saying we can cover "sensitive" info. We called and his bank said absolutely no way. Said sounded like scam. Anyone have info on this company?

Yea something sounds fishy. How would they be able to verify any of it? They're asking for proof of id (which could easily be altered on a pc) and yet have no way of verification. If you posted a pic of the bankcard and covered 'sensitive' info then what's the point? I'd send them a pic of the card (say visa backed bankcard) with my name and card number obscured. Meaning it could be anyone's visa card, makes no sense.

I moved this to a thread of it's own just so others dealing with this particular company, or this specific matter might see it better.

I recently purchased from them, only the 2nd time I have, but I was never asked for that info.

Appreciate you moving this thread and everyone's posting. Never had this happen before when dealing online. Disappointed as the deals seemed so cheap. I know there are other reputable internet companies out there... Right now I will help fund the expense of a vape shop for my nephew. Still...shame on Gearbest :(

For me, Paypal is a must for Chinese vendors. It's a shame really that all US vendors can't use it as well. Cancelling and replacing cards that have been compromised is a PITA.

Unless it's his age? You didn't mention how old he is. You might consider Fasttech, though. They're pretty easy to deal with, also in China. Shipping can sometimes take a bit. There are a lot of really good deals with some U.S. vendors, depending on what you're looking for.

The Pico does run a few dollars more stateside. VapeNW shows them for about $29. 101Vape has the Cerabis for about $25, and the Pico for about $37 that comes with the Melo 3 tank.

This isn't quite the same, but recently I tried to order from a juice company that wanted ID verification. Not only did they want a copy of my driver's license, they wanted a pic of me holding my license...yeah, a selfie with me and my ID. REALLY?

I get it that some companies are trying to get ahead of the curve when it comes to age verification, but asking for all that bank info, no way in hell would I send that to them. I quit dealing with Chinese companies after I bought some gear from one and later the next week my card was charged 4 times for all kinds of different things from other places. Fortunately my CC company is on the ball and alerted me quickly to these "strange" charges.

Is it by chance a case of shipping to an address that's different than the credit card's billing address? I still wouldn't send it and would use PayPal instead, but just trying to figure out why they might be asking for it.

Just got some juice from LightningVapes and had to upload a scan of my DL for age verification, no selfie thank god. After a certain age they're just depressing. You can't blame them for covering their ass. I mostly DIY but that may become exclusive before too long.

No, I understand about the CYA aspect of it all, but a selfie of me and my ID? I'm just wondering what it's going to be like when all the FDA regs kick in and companies are going to have to start using some sort of ID system for orders. Am I going to have to give a DNA sample next? LOL

I ordered from fasttech once and they said they wanted a picture of my credit card to verify it was really mine. They also said I could cover the first 12 numbers of the card. I just canceled my order and reordered using paypal. It might be to insure your not using stolen credit card. I wouldn't do it. Just use paypal.

My nephews bank told him not to send ANY info like that to a company. Claimed not a legitimate request and it isn't. Would like to thank Heck for adding some resources. Can't say I am not butt hurt over G.B.

Report this incident to your CC issuer.
A vender is to take the card Period.
I've had this happen F2F in purchases that have nothing to do with vaping.
Again the only thing necessary is your card, no more. Report these incidents to your CC issuer.
No,, this is not a PSA..

Face to face if the card said mary sue smuckenfuck and Billy bob knucklefucker was in front of me... you better believe it was ID to match the card or GTFO.

If a guy came in with a card that said Bill Bob Knucklefucker, I'd definitely have to check his ID and even it matched up, I'd play hell stifling my laughter :giggle::giggle::giggle:
