Emergency Nic Aquisition Storage Help

I thank anyone for any advice ahead of time!

I just found out this afternoon that the state I live in (Utah) will be banning all online sales of anything vapor or e-cig related as of July 1st. Not sure how this will be enforced, how consistently, etc but it has me a bit panicked.

I know next to nothing about DIY but figure that ordering some Nic base tonight or tomorrow is probably a smart thing to do. From what I understand Nic base will last for years if stored in a certain type of glass in the freezer.

Figure that everything else I will need I will be able to source later except for the Nic juice. Including learning how to DIY.

So a handful of emergency Nic base questions....

100mg/ML seems to be pretty common. Any reason to for a lower concentration?

What about the PG/VG ratio of the Nic base? I usually vape 70VG or above...Would it work to buy the base 100% VG? Any reason for another ratio?

Do the Nic base vendors usually ship the juice in a container appropriate for freezer storage?

I currently vape about 15 to 20ML of juice a day in 3mg to 6mg strengths. What would be a good amount to purchase for a few years supply?

Recommended vendors? Leaning towards NudeNic.

Sorry for the newb questions, just don't have time to do much research before the ban.

Edit-Wrong forum, re-posted in General DIY.

Nude nic, Nicotine River, and Vapertek are all good. At 3mg, a liter would last you a pretty good while, but if in doubt order two if you can afford it. It's recommended to store in an amber glass bottle in the freezer. You can usually order those where you order your nic.

I purchased a huge order from nude nic . They sell the extended life in 125 ml bottles and 20 of them don't take up much room on the freezer door . But if you haven't done DIY . Please research the hazards and risk of dealing with nic . I have been making my own juice for over 2 years and the highest I will buy is 50 .

Pick your VG or PG nic and get a deep freezer, -20 and below. Several inexpensive chest freezers such a Haier are a good bet. Take the nic and split it into 2 Brown glass bottles, use a wine preserver spray such as one with Argon or Nitrogen to displace the oxygen in the split bottles. Seal and put in the deep freeze. Do this as much as you can afford.

I vape about 30mls a day at 3mg 80VG 20PG, so a liter lasts me 3 years. I buy in PG because it's so much easier to work with and split into 120ml wide mouth brown glass bottles (easier to fill). But quite honestly if I get another liter I'll likely put into one or two big glass liter bottle and just split it up when I eventually open it up (you want as little air in the bottle as possible). I like Vaperstek nic, but I've had good nicotine from Nicotine River - and yes, NN has a good reputation also.

I agree, to get 100mg nic in PG. I like Vaperstek, have had good results recently with nic from ECX, too. Pretty sure it's the same nic as Nicotine River.

I generally get flavorings from Bull City, ECX and RTS Vapes.

Glass Amber bottles for splitting up nic, I get those from Packaging Options Direct - a case of 12, caps are separate, but all a good deal. Mine are 100ml wide mouth "Packer" bottles.

Get your nic, DON'T rush into everything, just order the stuff you think you won't be able to later, then slow down, come back and take your time for research, questions and more reading.

Also... a lot of companies are starting to ship with return addresses that don't say "vapes", "vapers" etc... kinda helps.

Yes, 100mg is what most use as, without a dedicated freezer, storage space does become an issue. However, you do need to show proper respect to nic at this strength and read up well on safe handling -- not time for macho bravdo. Safe storage is also a key issue (my thanks to the prohibitionist nazis at the FDA). Here a post with my best advice on this subject; this has worked very well for me. Good luck.

Excellent advice!

When you get your nic., just put in your refrigerator. It will be fine there for weeks. Light, heat and oxygen are the enemies of nic. Do your research after you order it and then act to store it.

I like Nude Nic. and VT. Very clean and smooth.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated!!

How does this sound for a Nic juice stock-up:
2L from NudeNicotine in the 125ML armor/long term storage bottles. (Ready to go directly into the freezeer, but expensive. End of vape availability stash.)
2L of NicSelect from EcigExpress. I will put these in the fridge until I can read up on safety and transferring to glass storage bottles.

I think 4L should carry me through for a few years. (Hopefully.)

Yes kind of settled in on DIY mixes with Hangsen tobaccos. Though still crave time to mix with FA a ala HIC. With the approaching vapocolype, I'm beginning to settle in on standard equipment. Have we ever heard back from @we2rcool -- or did they ride off into the California sunset to grow organic vegetables? Any word on @HeadInClouds and @wllmc?

We haven't heard from we2 in a long time, but HIC is still around here occasionally, and wllmc posts once in a blue moon (he moved to another state, and we miss him too!).

@Huckleberried - Those packer bottles you use from Packaging Options Direct, I see several types of caps that they offer. The metal caps have a "Plastisol" liner, the white plastic ones have an F217 liner with a stipple top (whatever that means), and the black pastic caps have a P/E foam liner. Which do you use or suggest for storage?

I am going to need to split up 2 Liters and am thinking the 100ML bottles should do the trick but not sure which type of cap is best if it really even matters. Would smaller bottles for some of it be a good idea? Or would 2 500ML bottles for 1 liter, and then 10 100ML fo the other liter be a good idea?

When transferring the Nic to the glass bottles, is using a stainless steel funnel OK?

Thanks!

I got the white plastic ones. I wouldn't fool with metal ones. I also have the 100ml ones. I don't use a funnel. I pour slowly, holding over a sink. I honestly don't know about a steel funnel, or any affect it would have. Syringes are blunt tipped stainless, so there's that.... sorry I can't help there.

The caps you want for long term storage are..(for example)
http://packagingoptionsdirect.com/20-400-continuous-thread-lined-black-phenolic-closure

POD is fine and I have used them often, but, sometimes their shipping cost may be such that other lower cost options might be considered. (Amazon or Fleabay...for example) Shipping cost from POD is less if delivered to a commercial address.

Storage bottle size for me is determined by how much nic. I plan to use over a period of time.

SS funnel is fine. I try not to splash.

I'm here (though wasn't in this thread til tagged)! I stick mostly to my vendor thread.

Lots of us have stocked up on nic & hardware, I see. I ran into a very old (>2 ys) WL nic bottle in my deep freeze. It looked like maple syrup. When I dug out the rest of the WL bottles, all were similar. Bright side: more room for ice cream & didn't like WL nic anyway.

Thanks Huckleberried & Ron! Ron--Those were the exact lids I was looking for but didn't know what they were called. I thought they were called cone caps for some reason.

Those are available with some types, or different vendors. I have them with smaller glass bottles I've used for mixing. Those are good ones, too.

Are the face masks, googles, and protective clothing really necessary?
I never fooled with any of those, but if you're more comfortable doing so, that's up to you. Plus, you could look cool in the process ;)

As far as cleaning out your bottles, you can wash and air dry, some I've seen use pure grain alcohol.

oxygen is nicotines no 1 enemy get a wine bottle pump [ just do it ] your nic will last at least 3 times longer

Do the bottles need any sort of special cleaning or sterilization before storing the NIc in them?

I rinse them out in hot water and turn them upside down in the dishwasher rack to air dry.

Some folks do nothing.

Nice bottle choice!

bottles I've gotten didn't appear to be clean. I wash with dish soap and water, rinse very very well, use PGA (pure grain alcohol, such as Everclear) to sterilize, let dry, and then fill. I'm also OCD, though.

Edit to clarify and to add - those were bottles from another vendor. The ones from specialtybottle that I just got looked pretty darn clean.

The dishwasher on sterile cycle also works well.

Hi HIC, I'll come visit your threads. Picked up 4oz of Nonna's and have yet to mix up any FA treats. My WL nic still looks crystal clear (freezer stored in amber class). Only one I've had darken was some RTS I had thrown in the freezer in its original plastic bottle.

It will have to be wash and air dry. Pure grain alcohol is ALSO illegal to buy in Utah

As an alternative, any vodka ( I recommend 100+ proof if possible ) should also suffice for this purpose. In fact, you could even use Isopropyl Alcohol ( preferably 90+ percent ) provided you make sure it has completely evaporated before use. The Isopropyl Alcohol has a bitter agent added to it to make it unfit for internal consumption so while it would work okay, I lean towards a cheap vodka being the better choice here.

Since not much lives in 100mg nic. , I myself do not worry too much about using strong disinfecting fluids.

I do remember looking around for bottles a couple years ago and found 2 prices for the same bottle. One price for new clean bottles one price for just new bottles. Apparently some commercial users enjoy to just directly load the empties on their bottling lines without the need to clean them. Convenience has a price...:)
