Efusion Duo vs Therion

So I have been looking to get into the DNA craze. I was pretty much decided on a Therion DNA 75, since it looks bada$$, and I don't vape above 50 watts.

I recently saw a post in a local group of a friend selling his Efusion Duo.

Now I am trying to find out how these two stack up against each other. Anyone have first hand knowledge of pros and cons of each, and how they compare to each other?

The Duo uses a DNA200 chip. It can be used with a 3s Lipo in it's 200 watt configuration or with 2 x 18650's in it's 133 watt configuration.

The Therion uses a DNA75 chip. It's a dual 18650 mod wired in parallel with a max output of 75 watts.

Personally I prefer the DNA200 chip. It is more efficient (97% vs 85%) and gives you more flexibility power wise. Because of this the DNA200 chip runs cooler. Both chips can be turned down to 1 wattt but the 75 is obviously capped at 75 watts..

Cheers,
Steve

The duo is a little on the chunky side. It's not great in the pocket but it's lovely to hold.

I think the duo is a great way to try a lipo setup without fully committing. It's nice to know I can go back to the 18650 world if I wanted to.

I just received a Therion yesterday and for me, its a great mod with some big caveats depending on the intended user.

TL;DR> I would choose the DUO over the Therion

# Long Version

1. There is no battery gains with the Dual (Ok, maybe a small amount... I'm running it in single 18650). What this means is that the battery life is not great, combined with the 87% efficiency rating of the chip make for a device that is not great for batt life. That said, on board charging, 18650 (can carry spares) and for me, I run in single right now and it is not horrible...

2. The DNA75 chip is NOT the same as the DNA 200 chip. I have 3 other mods with DNA 200 chips and all of them out perform the 75 thus far. Even using a low Watt setting (for me) of 55W, you can sometimes get a "device too hot" warning. The board temp comparisons that I have noted are about 15-20 degrees warmer on the DNA 75 vs the same atty/same watt settings on a DNA 200. @Wingsfan0310 mentioned heat and how that is the enemy of electronics. My testing of this is absolutely bang on to electronics theory. There's just not a lot oh headroom from 55W to the max of 75W, combined with the smaller enclosure... Additionally, there's no venting on the Therion. Looks great, but not great for heat dissipation.

3. 510 connector. Now, I have found that some of my atties have 510 pins that are just a tad too long for the device to sit flush. You can screw it down till flush, however it may short or read low ohms. At first I thought I had a bad unit but when I compare the atties that work vs those that have issues, its apparent that the atties with the hybrid/standard length cause the prob. This indicates that the 510 may not have a wide range of tolerance as other mods. I have the Triade and the 510 on it is superb! (Please note, I may have a faulty unit... still looking to isolate... but this is just my experience with my device).

You would think with all that I posted above, I feel negative about the Therion. I actually do not. I love it for "what it is". I also have 7 other mods that I regularly use. If this was my "only" mod purchase or it were purchased to be "my" only or main device, I would not pick it as the battery life is not fantastic and the style of which I vape is at the top end of what this device can reliably do. If I vaped TC 400-450 deg at 45 watts... This device would be great... in its current config, its just not versatile enough to be "my" main device or go to "rock star" device.

These are just my opinions and my experience with the device for a little over 24hrs.

I hope this helps any!

i actually vape close to your estimate lol. I go 475 degrees with 47.5w preheat......so would this make the Therion the better buy for me?

Preheat? Or vaping wattage? I ask because at close to 500, I've found the device to get quote warm... I actually like to vape at 500, 70w preheat and vape at 55w or so depending on build. That is at the upper range of the device.

To me, the DUO would provide a less "strained" vape. Do you have other DNA mods?

Well, this choice I suppose will come down to preference and cost if that's a consideration. Since you have a couple of highly capable power mods (RX200 213) TC is where DNA chips dominate (IMO) in particular, the DNA 200 chip. Now if form factor and looks are important, good news is that both are striking IMO... almost picked up a DUO myself if not for the price $150 most places. I like it but not $150 like it. If you are able to get the DUO for the same cost or less than the Therion... your choice is harder I suppose, vut if it were me... DUO hands down. Lot more bang for your buck no matter how you slice it and it looks fantastic IMO (Silver).

Good Luck! Let us know what ya choose.

I own a duo. Dont own a Therion. I love my duo. I have it in the 3s lipo configuration but have peace of mind knowing I can go to dual 18650 if I wanted to. Only downside is its kinda boxy and not the most comfortable to hold in the hand. It looks awesome with the new Zealand abolone panels. I got it on a 4th of July sale and paid 130 bucks for it which I thought was a good price. Choice is yours but with only 75w in the Therion you have no room to grow. Just my 2 cents..

Obviously you seem to want to get the Therion. I think that the Duo is the better choice. The DNA75 will go to 75 watts but that's maxed out and will really heat up quick. If I had one I would plan to cap my usage at no more than 50 watts to try and keep the board temperature at a reasonable level. That means at your current settings you would be pretty much maxed out. I don't like to buy things that offer me no headroom.

The way it seems to me is you prefer the look or feel of the Therion but the Duo would make more common sense. You never mentioned what the price difference is between your two choices. In the end it's up to you but I think for you the Duo is the better choice from a usability point of view.

Cheers,
Steve

Have the Therion in the mail. Should of found this thread first. I've been running my Limitless plus on a Fuchai at 75w. Planned to build and run the Therion the same til I read about the heat issue of the board. Crap!!! Will find a suitable device/build to run around 60-65w.

Honestly 60-65w on the Therion and 75w on the Fuchai should be around the same if the reviews I've seen are accurate. Still no headroom like Wingsfan0310 said.
