vaporshark stolen. looking for a replacement

as title suggests my vaporshark rdna40 was stolen from me at work. I LOVED that mod. can't say enough good things about it. Had it about a year and it worked just as flawlessly the day I lost it as the day I got it. If I had the money I would buy another one without a second thought, but I got to thinking. I don't use temp control and doubt I ever will. I always just use 28 gauge twisted kanthal 6 wrap 2mm ID in my Billow (which was stolen with my mod) soooo what's the point of temp control if I don't use nickel or titanium wires? So my question here is i'm looking for a new mod. it doesn't have to go up to crazy wattages like 200 or anything excessive like that. I'd be perfectly happy with another 40w device as long as it lasts as long as my rdna did, but I don't want a mod that uses 2 batteries because they're just too bulky for my liking. I've gone back to my old ipv mini 2, but it's weird how i'm using the same build in my goblin as I did in my billow and even at 15w it's just too hot or something. very muted flavor which could be my goblin's fault I know. Still would like another replacement device for my vaporshark.

I'm sorry to hear about your mod being stolen. If you want a nice single battery mod, it's hard to go wrong with the Joyetech eVic VTC mini, or the newer eVic 2. Yes, they have TC capabilities, but most new mods do now, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to. I have 2 of the VTC mini's and they have performed flawlessly.

If I was in the market for another single battery mod, it would be my first choice, I can think of nothing bad to say about this little mod. Best of all, Joyetech seems to be on top of keeping the firmware up to date to keep it's customers happy.

its a small mod with a similar form factor, easy to navigate, and it has a few extra bells and whistles over the dna4o.

I am a huge DNA fan though... and here is a dna75 with all the bells and whistles you could want through escribe with a nicely packed box and a single 18650 for only 50$ from a usa vendor. (try coupon code ILOVEYOU) not sure if it is still active or not.
running this thing at 40W will give you great battery life.

The mod isn't what will determine you seeing a bad vape or not... if you are experiencing a hot vape.. it's the build you have or you have it just set too high... since you've used a similar build in another atty ok, that points to you not having something the same. I'll come back to possible causes in a moment...

The Joyetech EVIC VTC Mini and VTwo ( same mod, the VTwo is the updated version ) is very close to the size/shape of the rDNA 40 and uses a single 18650. These are TC mods and are capable of up to 75w. Firmware updateable and TC modes with SS, Ti and NiChrome. They will also run in power mode ( watts ) as well as mech mode. Prices vary but fall in the $30-40 range depending on where you find them at. TC really doesn't add much if any additional cost so it doesn't make sense to not get it even if you don't currently use it.


There are several possible causes of a hot vape.

Not enough air flow over the coils OR the air flow isn't directed at the coil to keep it cooled down.

The wick may be choked ( too much wick ) and therefore can't deliver enough juice to the coils to keep them cooled down.

The wick may be too small and can't deliver enough juice to keep the coils cooled down.

A loop or a few loops of the coil are not touching the wick well enough, that that one ( or several ) spots are getting too hot... again that/those areas aren't getting enough juice to cool them down.

The legs leading to the coils are a little too long and if it's not using non-resistive wire.. it could overheat since they aren't in the line of air flow and they aren't cooled by the juice from the wick.

15w is probably approaching the limit of how much heat a 28g wire can take without starting to burn the juice since it doesn't have the surface area to spread the heat across like a larger gauge wire can provide. Since you say you had a similar build working in something else, it's likely one or two of the other possible causes I mentioned.

the early run rdna mods did have finish issues. the finish on the sdna75 has been mentioned to hold up really well.
there is no case for either of those that I am aware of though

I think that is going to be the one I go with when I get some extra money in my life. Wish I could find a case for it or knew a good way to make a protective case for it.

Just remember that twisted 28g ... isn't just a 28g wire... which is what I said in that post... twisted wires will have twice the surface area of a single wire of the same gauge so can take more power/voltage. Still what I listed should have provided some clues as to possible areas to look into.

The amount of surface area the wire/coil has... determines how much heat it can take before reaching a point that may burn the juice. The amount of cooling the wire/coil gets from the air and/or the juice can help increase the amount of heat it can take before it reaches a temp that affects the way the juice tastes.

FYI .. the Joye Evic VTwo Mini comes with a silicone case... the VTC Mini does not.

If you're only using power mode it's tough to beat an 80w mod for under $20. Talk to an agent while ordering and they'll give you a 5-10% coupon.

It's coming down to this or the Evic Vtwo. Hopefully I can pull some money out of my ass and get one or the other. I loved the DNA chip in the vaporshark so if i had it my way i'd get the SMY.

the new chip is much nicer than the 40.
I have SEVERAL dna40s and rdna40s, a custom dna40 box and a hanao one(dna40)
for this style chip I have 3 dna200s, 2 dna133s
the 75 will operate exactly the same, with the same power management as the dna4os and "Style of TC" the major difference are all the custom abilities you will have in escribe.


edit: steve or @Wingsfan0310 is the yoda of escribe, check his signature there are links to some of the escribe threads. Any of us with the boards are happy to help should you need it.

the sdna75?
the silver one has a clearcoat on it, so short of atty rash on top, it should stay looking ok for a little while.
you can also always get a clear jwrap to protect (15-20$?) and/or a "thingy" - the 'thingy' is a little sticker that ocd mods and fatdaddyvapes sells - you put them either on the top of the mod around the 510 or the bottom of the atomizer to prevent it from scratching the top.

personally, if it were a concern for me, i would do a clear jwrap on the clearcoated stainless steal sdny75

yes the SDNA 75. loved the DNA chip in my rdna so think i'll stick with what I know works well. I checked out jwraps, but didn't see anything specifically for the SDNA75
