New to vaping and to this forum. My vape is damaged.

image.jpg image.jpg Hey guys new to the page and im Not familiar with the parts of a tugboat or any vape besides the knowing coil which is damaged. What happened was I removed the top piece off in order to get to the coil and it got caught on the wire and cotton that was inside the coil(It's a tugboat mod with #tuglyfe on the side) im assuming i just have to get a new coil And cotton. is it possible where I don't have to the have cotton but a different alternative iknow they have other types but for this specific vape would it work? Help me out guys im basically a newb and i wanna learn about this more. Thank you!

You are going to have to replace your coils and wicking. Do you have any rebuilding material ? 6ou can youtubr videos on how to make coils and wicking the device bit since you are using a unregulated device you need to know ohm laws

Using a mech box without knowing how to build and replace coils, without measuring their resistance and without understanding ohm's law, is just an accident waiting to happen!

Not trying to be a jerk, but like the others have said, an unregulated is NOT someplace safe to start vaping.

You need to get a regulated vape mod to start with. DO NOT rely on someone else to build your coils to the proper resistance, if you know nothing of OHM's law.

well let me try this

someone built that coil and wicked it for you in the first place. HOPEFULLY THEY CAN DO IT AGAIN.
with the device you are using...THERE ARE NO SAFE GUARDS. if you accidentally build a coil with a short or use a coil with too low of a resisatnce you can literally blow off your hand.

SO my advice is
1. get the person who built the coil and wicked it for you to do it again.. and ask them to teach you what you need to know.
THEN if that is not possible or after you get that done you need to lear some stuff

lets start with the type of mod you have
you have in general terms a unregulated parralle mech mod. It is one of the simplest and basic mods in the world., They work great but they can be quite dangerous. numerous thinsg can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. even the most expereinced vapers can make mistakes and be in trouble with that device.
WHY?
well unlike regulated devices such as a IPV5, Rx200, etc theres no chip in it to program to make it safer, like not fire if the batteries ar ein wrong (called reverse polarity protection), not firing the atomizer if the resistance of the coil is too low for what the mod should be able to safely fire, or if a short is detected.

so the first thing you need to learn about are batteries. they come in different brands, amp ratings, and mah ratings
you use a battery with too low of an amp rating you can go kaboom
you use a battery which is faked and says its one amp rating but can only handle half of that you go boom
you use a battery that claims its 45 amps and its really only 20 amps and you build for a 45amp battery you go boom

basically to play it safe you use 20 amp batteries from either samsung or lg or sony, ( legit sony are hard to get at times - they get pulle dform the market, sony doesnt want vapers to use their batteries or something like that)
good samsungs are hg2 and he4 samsung models that are good are 25r and 30q... There are other models but those are the safe bets
also you want to buy from legit suppliers like illum or liionwholesale or a few others

next you need to learn ohms law
what is ohms law? well its a formula that lets you determine voltage, resistance ,current and power in an electrical circuit
why is that needed. well so you dont go boom
not good at math no worries here is an online calculator
http://www.steam-engine.org/ohm.asp

this lets you figure it all out
lets learn here
in teh middle of that screen it has tabs (resistance, voltage, currewnt, power) Click the voltage tab to lock that value in
then on the left change the 3.5 to 4.2V since that is the maximum voltage most batteries put out,

Now enter 40 under current. and hit enter
the power will now read 138w and the restance will read .11 ohms

that means on FRESH batteries the lowest ohm coil you should use is .11 ohms but this is under optimal conditions, and using this build can still be a hair dangerous so you should always build coils with a little leadway and not try to push your batteries to their absolute limits which a .11 ohm build will do. but it will power it at 138watts which is a lot.
so knowing how to ballance out the power you want with the ohms you can get is important
your coil determines how many watts that the batteries give it. you have no control over that with your device

now once you get all that you need to learn to build coils
you will need
wire usually kanthal a1 is what most start with but some of us start with Stainless steel. they both have advantages and disadvantages that are usually a matter of personal choice
youll need something to cut the wire
ceramic tweezers are often used to pinch coils
you need something to wrap cois around like a drill bit, screwdriver or a coil jig
and MOST MOST IMPORTANTLY you will need an ohm reader...Let me say it again YOU NEED AN OHM READER.
oh and dont forget the ohm reader
oh one more thing you need is an ohm reader
WHY?
becuase you need to know the restance or ohm reading of your coil before firing it on your mod so you dont go boom

all these supplies can be found online at vape shops and some of it at your local hardware store etc.

the best place to learn the basic of coil building is youtube. so start there to get the idea of what you are trying to accomplish

in terms of your questions on wicks
most people use cotton or rayon. there are people who have reaosns to not use rayon. there are all kinds fo cotton brands etc out there. do some seacrches on this forum or google for more detailed info.

welcome to VU, glad to see you are asking questions and not just fumbling around and blowing yourself up. let us know what else you have questions about

what ar eyou getting a brand new one of? a coil great-
new device? thats a littkle overboard but if you do get a regulated device to start with - one that has an led screen has safety features and will allow you to adjust your wattage to the coil.

exmaples are but not limited to
ipv5
ipv3li
ipv d3
rx200

I'd but a G2 or Vt133 over any of those to be honest. the IPVs are great too. Not a fan of the rx200 though

Get yourself a simple regulated device. There are plenty out there that can be had for a great price. Pico, Evic Mini, Stout, Vt133, Cuboid, RX2/3, Ipv5, are all really good mods that come to mind. Use google to see what you like then use Vapecrawler.com to find the best deal. When I started out I went with a tank that took pre built coils. My favorite tank for pre built coils is the Original Uwell Crown. Herakles, Eagle, and Cleito are some of the more popular tanks as well. Ask questions and plenty of them. This site is wealth of knowledge with some really great people that are always willing to help.
