I'm new to mixing my own liquid, I'm trying to make a blueberry and lime flavour and have got to a stage in pretty happy with apart from how harsh my liquid is!

My recipe is:
Flavour art bilberry-5%
Flavour art lime(distilled) 3%
0.3mg nic

Those amounts are kinda high for FA flavors.
Many use the Bilberry at 0.5-1% for example.
I'd try it at 1% + 1% just because some flavors can be harsh at higher amounts.
0.5% FA Marshmallow might be a nice addition...

Edit: Oh, and BTW if you need to increase the amounts I'd recommend adjusting only by 0.5% at a time.
Steep for 3 days minimum and retest.

What he said. The lime might seem a tad harsh fresh mixed, but it mellows out nicely the next day. FlavourArt is really concentrated, so a little really goes a long way. With that said, not all of their flavorings are so strong that you'd use so little, but many of them are wonderful at 2% or less.

Also the bilberry for me def needs some steep time.. I usually go a week.. but i'd say try it after 3days -- this of course after remixing or mixing at the lower percentage as already mentioned. :)

Thanks for the advice! I've recently been told to try mixing at those %s and will try tomorrow! Seems abit low tho ?? And will try marshmallow in the mix aswell when I get some!! I'm currently vapeing my blueberry and lime (harsh) and after a week of steeping it's not to bad but still harsh! What are your opinions on breathing liquids??

Was thinking of changing my lime to a more realistic lime flavour
My favorite lime is from the Totally Wicked Gold Standard line. At 2% it's like a fresh squeezed lime. There's no harshness to it too.

Can single flavours be used at a higher % to gain a full on strong taste and still be smooth, for example using FA forest fruits at 6% or would you still only mix it at 2%??

All flavors are different. I would go like 1% bilberry and 1% lime and steep for at least a week as mentioned. Those 2 flavors in particular really need a steep and super low %. The lime mellows into a candylike lime after a few weeks. Tastes like floor cleaner right away.

However, I make a single flavor forest fruit at 10% I really like. Some fa are strong. Some fa are outrageously strong.

Oh, ugh, Forest Fruit at low percentages is awful! I thought I hated that flavor until I read about someone using it at 7%. I couldn't even IMAGINE that much of that foul flavor in a juice, but I'm the adventurous type, so I mixed up a small sample of it at 7% with nothing else, just that one flavor, and it's FABULOUS! (You should have seen the look on my face just before I took the first hit of it, though! LOL!) It would probably be good at 10% as well. I can vape this flavor all day long now, and I really, really like it, all by itself, with nothing to distract from it.

This is how different we all are, lol. I've never taken one over 4%, that one was Lemon Sicily. Even solo, I generally mix FA at 2%, sometimes 3. I know it seems ridiculous, such a small amount of flavoring, but these realy are concentrated.

That's good to hear, I made a test of 30ml at 6% (as I have been with all my flavours!) can you recommend a steep time ??

It can, that's why I started out with mixing other people's recipes. It taught me a lot about how flavors work together, and what I preferred about the tastes, too. I still mix a lot of other people's stuff, but tweak the % to suit what I know I like best. There are a LOT of good recipes here! :)

No need to vent unless you can taste alcohol IMO.

Some flavors are harsh at higher %'s, but some aren't.
Your gonna have to experiment with each flavor to find the point they become harsh and then back down a little.
Like Huck I've never gone above 3% with any FA Fruits.

But it's probably better if you try samples of your fruits stand alone first, then you can get a base line for each flavor, & keep notes.
Mix small testers like 10ml in a 15ml bottle, that way you can add incremental 0.5% amounts to fine tune.

Everybody pretty much has to learn their flavors first, before making any fancy recipes.
Can also use recipes posted here & elsewhere and make adjustments after learning your preferences.

It can be time consuming but patience will pay greater dividends in the long run.

Don't be afraid to try out other brands like INW, CAP, TFA, FW, etc.
Each brand has some really good flavors.

I started with FW, then TFA, then FA, then CAP, and INW last.
Along with a few others along the way like Hangsen, DIYFS, NF, LA, & Flavorah.

I will bare that all in mine!! Thanks for the help guys will let you know how my new testers turn out!! Am I right in thinking any flavours sold containing alcohol or other bad ingredients are sold with warnings of some kind ??

Some have warnings, and some don't.
BCF has pretty good warnings on most everything they sell.

The only brands that I've had with excessive alcohol were LA & NF.
But many others may have smaller amounts but it's not really noticeable IMO.

Ok cool!!
The reason I started vapeing was to give up tobacco and all the nastiest chemicals that go with it, would seem abit pointless using potentially harmful ingredients in my liquids.

I've just had a vape of forest fruits mixed at 6% and steeped for 2 days and it is lovely!!!

I agree, that IS a lovely flavor at higher percentages. It's like a handful of sweet, cool, dark berries, blueberries, blackberries, etc. Down at 1% to 2% it tasted like pine sap to me, seriously. This is the only flavor I've come across so far that changes so drastically with the amount used. I was >this< close to throwing the bottle of flavoring out, but now that I see how nice it is if I just use more of it, I've ordered the giant economy-sized bottle. ;)

Shows how different everybody is, as that's one I didn't like at all.
But I did try it only using 1 or 2 percent, too scared to go higher:eek:.

Good that you found something you like tho...

Try it higher, you'll LIKE IT! I did the scary experiment myself, so you don't have to. ;) I despised it at 2% or less, but at 7% (for me, anyway), it's an all day vape. VERY yummy all by itself. It doesn't need a single extra thing added. I might try it later at 10% and add a bit of a cream to it, but honestly, it's so good by itself, I'm not in any hurry to go changing things around.

Wow....FA Forest fruit at 10%!....You must be like the guy who found, by trial and error the 1% of the puffer fish that wasn't deadly!...

I can't really taste a creamy note with that flavor by itself, but I did an experiment yesterday and mixed some in a tank with some "creamy custard" juice I also made, and although it was good, it took away from the berry flavor in the Forest Fruit. For myself, I think I'm going to be a purist and keep my Forest Fruit unadulterated. ;) Maybe mixed with cream or some pastry flavor it might be good for a winter vape. Right now I'm still in "fruit craving" summer phase. In the winter I go more for pastries and candy flavors, with fruits only as an accent. :)

Found a recipe. Was skeptical too but tried it anyway.

Tastes just like one of the juices i used to buy before diy.

I have. I find that one to be REALLY strong. If I use it, it's usually at 1%, or less, but I see more and more people saying they use it at 2 or 3%
I made a test bottle of
Fuji 6% (fa)
Sour wizard 1%(fa)
Koolada 1% (tfa)
Vg/pg 70/30 0.3mg
I'm loving it!! Full on flavour no harshness at all!!
