  • The panzer blackhawk i received from fasttech has giving me some trouble. Im searching for some suggestions on what to do. The locking ring is stuck and im not sure if it reguires magnets. Ive searched fat daddy's and believe i found a set but before i spend any money i wanna see what info i gather here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The magnets have nothing to do with the function of the lock ring. The kits that FDV sells are a higher quality improvement over the often weak stock magnets found in some clones... the purpose of which is simply to provide a repelling force for the button.

The PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating (assuming this is a higher quality piece and it's not just paint) - if the lock ring is overtightened - can produce a hard, gritty spalling effect - sufficient to bind the ring.
Sometimes freezing and/or heating in hot water can be sufficient to allow the parts to separate... I'd disassemble the button first so you have better purchase on the ring. Make sure you're turning the ring in the right direction. (Yeah... I know, but it happens ;) )

On occasion, it may be necessary to use a liquid penetrant to unbind the joint... a product like "PB blaster" penetrant may help.

Thanks for the knowledge. After getting frustrated with it im not sure if i may have tightened beyond getting unstuck. Ill be sure to try tho. Ironicly i went to my local shop today and was offered a 1:1 clone for 20bux. Im taking that one for backup if i cant solve these problems. If i end up with two working mods then hopefully i can trade one or something. Huge thanks for the advice, i never thought of freezing it. The "magnet" that came with it after further inspection is nothing more than plastic it seems.

I don't have a Panzer in front of me, and it' wouldn't matter much if yours is a departure from the authentic... but it's common for intermediary magnets to be held, on the axis centerline, in a plastic insulator. A "free" magnet could shift and dead short the mech.
