Is it normal to use sweetener?

So as some of you may know, VapeWild recently started selling DIY supplies. I found a PDF on their facebook page about mixing for beginners, and read some of it.
They were speaking about sweetener as if it was just as integral of an ingredient as PG or VG. For a while, I've been wondering what my DIY juice is missing. Whenever I go to a vape shop and try their sample juices, they all have such a smoothness to them, and a sweet aroma. My juices don't have this. I generally do 50/50 base, 3mg nic, and 15% flavor.
Have I been missing sweetener? I've been wondering now whether that is what I'm tasting and smelling in premium juices at the store.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Sounds legit to me lol

A lot of flavors have EM as one of the ingredients, so in a lot of cases you're getting some sweetener in your juice without even intending to.
Most of the sweet pre-made juices contain Sucralose.

Most of my diy flavors are Flavor West and Signature from ecigexpress... Their taste holds no similarity to what I sample in the stores. Could you please explain what EM is? Or what I can add to my juice (if I should)? Thank you

Em is an Abreviation of a chemical name something like ethyl matol or such... basically it's cotton candy flavor.

I'm one of the weirdos that always thought premade juice was too sweet and overly flavored. I don't add sweetener to my juice, and still find some of those to be too sweet. Most of the stuff I mix is well under 10% total, some aroun 5% flavor.

Flavourt art flavors are (generally from my experience) unsweetened. Capella and Flavor West have sweetner in them. TFA as well, but on the light side. So it depends on each flavor.

I usually use 0,5% sweetner in tobacco, and 1% in other recipes (in 50-50 PG-VG mixes). But not more, since I don't like it too sweet.

If you are using a lot of desert flavors, adding sweetner may not be necessary.

If a recipe is too harsh, I find that 0.25% to 1.25% of FA marshmallow can help as well.

I used to do desert flavors, but now I'm primarily making berry/fruit or soda/juice ones. What sweetener am I supposed to use? I'll get some with my next order.
And what do you add marshmallow to? I've got some, but I wouldn't imagine it going with berries lol. Unless you're just talking about deserts

At very low percentage you will not taste the marshmallow, you will just feel it. No problem with berries.

I use ethyl maltol and stevia, 50-50. My stevia is diluted with PG (1 part stevia + 9 to 12 parts of PG).

If you are trying vape shop house juices and there good. Total opposite from what we got going on here. Dont know what they putting in their juices. So that made us go into rehab. Sweetener rehab we put it in everything trying to pickup the flavors helped some alittle. What helped us slow down on our addiction was diy. First couple mixes I ever did blew them away. Cant speak for everyone else but if recipe calls for 4 or 5% I put 2% and go from there. Everyone is different and you can allways add it but you cant just take it out. Ethyl maltol can work very well when its called for. Diy helped me with my addiction the crack thats what we call sweetener to this day. Alot of recipes I do and look for dont even have sweetener in it. Just what flavors have in them. We all have different taste, technique, opinions.

I guess I'm a weirdo too. Most "premium" juice is way too sweet for me. That's one of the reasons I DIY

Nothing wrong with trying some, experimentation is what DIY is all about.
Finding out what you like best.
Mostly use Stevia if I want more sweetness, but sometimes use TFA Sweetener.
But normally only 1-3 drops in 15ml.

Most store bought juices have sweetener added. (most too much, IMO) Try using it and see what happens. I rarely add sweetener but that's just me.

From seeing a linked facebook video of VapeWilds diy mixing video I would simply recommend throwing away there booklet, they appear to be utterly and more importantly dangerously clueless with information they are giving

This is a very good point regarding sweeteners. Flavor West flavours I have tried have obviously had sweetener added to them, which personally is why I really dont like them as to me sweetener is both muting flavour and authenticity wise to juices. I have had little success using tpa sweetener, totally the opposite. I am going to experiement a bit with FA vanillin but I get the idea sweeteners generally are a love or hate thing people seem to swear by using them or swear not to use them

Quite a few flavors can be used to help soften, add sweet creaminess, buttery, body, & fullness.
Can also stack quite a few together for layers.

Signature is really just TFA, and their flavors are meant to be building blocks, not the entire building -- so yes, some sweetener is necessary; how much, is up to your individual palate; it will typically be a good bit when you're new to non-smoking, and decreases as your tastebuds heal.

This.

I use 1-2% of Loranns Cotton Candy in many of my DIYs.

Thanks everyone! Just received some ecigexpress sweetener that I ordered. I dropped some into my existing mixes and it works! This is exactly the ingredient I've been missing. Now my juice tastes just like that premium stuff that sells for outrageous prices at the local shops. Except this sweetener is pretty strong. To anybody who uses this type, what percentage do you put in your juice? This is the exact product for anybody who needs to know: http://www.ecigexpress.com/shop/diy.../liquid-concentrates/sweetener-sucralose.html

When I first started DIY, it was only a few months after I quit smoking, and I typically used 2%-2.5%. Now that it's been over 2 yrs since I smoked and my tastebuds have FINALLY started waking up, it's more like .5%, and even that may be too much in some recipes. I'd recommend starting off at .1% and going up if needed -- you can't get it back out once it's in, and it's difficult to fiddle with a recipe to add more unsweetened mix to an existing too-sweet mix -- it CAN be done, but it's a huge pain in the ass.
