Batteries could last for EVER in the near future!

Hi everyone.

I was doing some reading online, and come across an article regarding Lithium Polymer batteries-the original article I read stated all types of lithium batteries though.

Imagine buying one battery-and this lasting you for the rest of your life! I know batteries aren't expensive, but I still found it a cool read.

I doubt the Industry would be interested in this technology, due to loosing money. Everything is designed to fail on the "long" run, in order to have the ability to sell new "upgraded" technology to the consumer.

That is sadly a good point, although I wonder if there would be areas it could be used in, such as expensive higher end power tools?

We may never see this come to light which is a shame, but it would be fantastic to buy say 30 18650's and know you are sorted for life!

Like anything, it would depend on the methods used to create such nano wires, but at the size we are talking of, I guess it would be cost prohibitive.

Then again, say they did get it to a reaonable level, would you pay $25 dollars for a cell that will last you a lifetime, with no degredation in capacity or CDR, or save the money and simply buy a new battery once a yead (Or more/less depending on your use)?

I doubt this technology will appear in the market, in the near future, due to the aforementioned reason. I know of other inventions that would have improved overall technologies. Larger companies buy patents, that would improve current technologies, in order to prevent them from showing up on the market, just for the same reason. Unless we, the consumers, change our ways of buying whatever products, there won't be much change. As mentioned before, everything is designed to fail, sooner or later, just to secure the market, thus the profits of either companies.

Reminded me the story about how light bulbs lasted for many years, until the manufacturers start making then less resistant on purpose, and how Henry Ford fired the engineer that designed parts that lasted much longer then the warranty.

If you was a smoker, they definitely are not expensive. A 25R can be had for under £5-I spent more than that on cigarettes daily,and if you smoked, or you now purchase juice, I see them as one of the cheapest parts of vaping. (Apart from things such as wire and cotton).

FYI bro, Everything is expensive to me. LOL I smoked 2 packs a week. Vaping has cost me more money then smoking. E juice is so expensive. I know there is sales and thats what I live off of.

Sorry man, I didn't realise you was a pretty light smoker, I should of wrote my previous post as pack a day smoker-at least it is a healthier choice you have made though. Juice is a killer, I DIY, it might worth looking into to save some money? I don't want you to think I meant 'batteries are not expensive' in a nasty way, I just meant that with the cost of a mod, juice ETC, and compared to actual cigarettes, aren't too bad for what you get.

On the bright side, most batteries out there now are pretty good. 25r, vtc5, they're nothing to sneeze at either.

I think it is a shame, as when I read that article, the thought of a cell that would last my entire lifetime was great- also the environmental impact it could have if rechargeable cells became the norm due to the technology.

But, as you say, we will never see it (I highly doubt so now anyway).

You are right though, we have a great choice in batteries at the moment, from trusty 25R's to higher capacity 20A cells, and looking at Spec sheets, they are good for enough cycles to last a year+ easily, and this is if it was your only battery!
