Impulse Buy - Hcigar DNA75 Nano

Hello all,

I logged in a little while ago and saw someone was selling the Nano at a great price so I jumped on it. I have been kinda skeptical of the DNA 75 board and I'm not the biggest fan of the color (red) but I went ahead and bought anyway.

I've been looking for a small DNA to use with my favorite tank, the serpent mini and this one seemed to fit the bill. I was close to buying the Sbody Macro DNA40 but after watching reviews and seeing that 22mm toppers have over hang, I passed. For the most part, this will be used with a .3-.8ohm single coil and no more than 40 watts.

I just wanted to head how people are getting along with the DNA 75 or the nano if anyone out there has one. It should be here on Monday so naturally I'm climbing up the walls with anticipation.

So please chime in with any opinions, tips or criticisms you might have.

The only DNA75 I have is a Blood Red Lavabox. I like it quite a bit, At 40 watts it should work great for you. I wouldn't suggest pushing it to 75 watts because battery life wouldn't be good (same thing with any single battery mod). It's a great chip for a small single battery mod.

awesome little carry ! Picked one up a little bit ago from RatRacer and very happy with it. Will prob grab another one at some point.

One thing tho.. everyone mentions the battery cover.. very tight threads and easy to strip. Even tho I prefer to charge batteries externally - on this mod I just threw a sony in there, threw some lube on the threads and charge it via the usb port. It's def a DNA and works as you would expect. Great choice, am sure you will like it !

I have the snda75.. different mod but same same board.
for me its my go to run about for quick trips with tanks.

small form factor and you cant beat a dna board for fine tuning your vape.

Using Serpent Minis as well on both my Pico and the Lavabox. Also my fave tank. Running it at 20-23w on spaced 26g ss316 wire, 8 wraps. Comes out at .58ohms. Vapes like a champ!

My pico would refuse to fire it on temp control (after the fw update) even at its max 600f at 20w wherein the Lavabox, it works perfectly.

Be mindful of the preheat settings, default settings on escribe puts it at 75w and temp limit warnings flash right away limiting your vape. I set mine at 20w preheat as my build doesnt require any preheat anyway.

I see, no worries though. The preheat setting applies only to tc mode. If im not mistaken, there's no preheat setting in power mode.

I do hope they make escribe usable on mac as well. Sucks that it's windows-only for now but im sure they'll make a mac version in time.

Well, the SDNA come with lots of materials pre loaded on it, which I thought was good, but it is easy to add materials in Escribe.

BUT-a big but too, Stainless Steel TC was very hit and miss before the DNA 75, and on the DNA200's it would seem like the device would pick and choose when it wanted to work.

Now, using the SS 316 setting I get very smooth temp control, before you could see how jagged and bad it was in Escribe, now it is very smooth since the DNA 75 and SP3 for the DNA200's.

SS 316L is just a low carbon version of SS 316, so you should be able to use the SS 316 profile Evolv put out with Escribe like I do with 316L, and with very good results .

Edit to add - funny that you mentioned how the DNA decides to stop doing TC with SS randomly. I just fired up my vaporshark DNA 200 and it seems to have stopped doing TC. I do have a new build in there but it was working fine yesterday. I really need to get Windows CPU asap.

That is the way I roll now. I have posted this several times before but never got a comment. It makes much more sense to me to have different profles for punch and preheat (the only things you can't change in the mod) and just change the material on the mod.

I use tape to cover my micro usb slots and it's a bit of a hassle to keep taking it off just to see if there are new packages for my device. Or is plugging into escribe the only way to find out about this? Sorry, I'm new to dna and I still have a lot to learn about this awesome chip

You can check the Evolv forums here-https://evolvapor.forumchitchat.com/?forum=522098 to see when firmware has been released for the DNA75, Evolv do put up early firmware as well as the current firmware, so you can choose to either keep the recommended firmware, or try the newer firmware before its official release.

Just got home from NY a little while ago and was happy to see the nano showed up a couple days early. That never happens. I've only been messing with it for about a half hour and two things I noticed right or off the bat - the battery goes quick but most concerning is how hot the mod gets. I threw on my tsunami with .25 duel Claptons in 316, 420 degrees and 50w. Anyone else's getting really warm to the touch with minimal use? Is this normal for the DNA75 or is it something I should be concerned about ?

Unfortunately, I can't comment on that yet as I normally vape at 20w. I'll try my other tanks that demand more power later tonight when I get home.

How long did you vape it for? Did you chain vape or does it get hot after a few puffs?

I was vaping it for a good half hour maybe? Kinda chain vaping it... it seemed to get pretty warm but not past a certain degree of warmness, if that makes any sense? It's really not the setting I got it to use at. I'm using it now with my serpent mini at 30w and it's working well. I plan on messing with it today and trying out the TC.

What I can say is the DNA200 chip is 97% efficient vs 85% for the DNA75. That loss of efficiency is dissipated as heat. The DNA75 will run hotter than the DNA200. That combined with in most cases a smaller case will intensify that effect.

I don't have that particular mod (I have a Blood Red Lavabox M - DNA75). I only use mine ib TC 30-35 watts and it gets warm if I'm chain vaping. Not too hot to hold but warmer than my DNA200's for sure.

Personally I prefer my DNA200/250 mods/chips because of the reasons stated above. More efficient/run cooler. The DNA75 is nice however for a smaller mod if you aren't running it too high. All depends on what I'm doing.

I've been running it at 30w all morning and it's been fine; not getting warm at all. I was so excited to see it here when I got home last night that I just pulled the atty of my VS DNA200 and popped it on the nano. The coils in the atty that was on my DNA 200 are beefy and power hungry so I'm not surprised by it getting warm. I have not had my 75 very long but I can already say I prefer my 200. Still nice to have such a small DNA in the arsenal. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the "full size" VT75 which I use with a green Efest 26650 battery. I got it as my "out and about" TC mod. First real test was a 2 day trip I had to make the end of last week. Put my OBS Engine on it (top fill, top airflow so really tough to get it to leak, perfect for travel) with a dual 0.5 ohm 316L build. Went through ~12 ml of juice (my normal average is 5 to 7 ml a day) at 30W 450F. Granted, it is a 26650 not an 18650 like the nano, but I still had half a charge left. That would certainly lead me to believe a full day of such use could be achieved with an 18650.

One other issue with the VT75/nano is the threading of the battery door. I believe it's better on the nano than the full size. Still, given this is a DNA board which I trust far more for usb charging, I just leave my battery in and recharge that way. Only other device I do that with is my Duo, in which I installed the Lipo pack it came with.

I think the DNA 75 board serves the single battery lower power market well, especially for the small form factor. I have DNA 200s as well which are terrific, but are obviously larger and not as easy to pocket if you're running around.

You can try locking the mod (5 clicks on the fire button), then holding all 3 buttons down (to get into the material tab) to make sure the SS316 is selected for that profile. I'm wondering if the person that had the mod shut off TC for that profile. I'm just guessing here because I've never seen off come up before on any of my mods when using TC.

What I'm saying is I wonder if this box is checked


Even if it is for that profile you can select another of your 8 profiles, go into the material tab and select SS316. I hope I didn't lose you there. If you need assistance, either ask here or shoot me a PM.

Edit It doesn't matter what the profile is, once you go into the material tab and select SS316 that will be the wire in that profile even if it's labeled, for example Ni200.

Ok so it's no longer saying off but is immediately going into temp protect. I'm also seeing "PO" on the screen...

Edit to add - watching the screen as I hit the fire button the temp is jumping all the way up to 700 degrees then immediately temp protected. I'm baffled.

I'm stumped too. I've never seen PO on my display before. Without hooking it up to Escribe I don't know what's in the bottom display. It could be something he labeled a material or profile. I would have to hook it up to Escribe to see what's going on. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I'm having the same problem with my standard size. Battery life drains quickly. And, right now I'm at .65 and 52w...have been all week. I'm getting 'weak battery' and it's still 3/4 charged. Think I'll plug it in a usb port and keep an alternate going so I can unplug and continue to switch flavors. That weak battery thing is pissing me off though. Maybe Escribe can help me with that. Odd.

I'm having the same problem with my standard size. Battery life drains quickly. And, right now I'm at .65 and 52w...have been all week. I'm getting 'weak battery' and it's still 3/4 charged. Think I'll plug it in a usb port and keep an alternate going so I can unplug and continue to switch flavors. That weak battery thing is pissing me off though. Maybe Escribe can help me with that. Odd.

That seems to be an issue with the 26650 versions. I've been using mine all day with a .5 ohm coil, 30w with a 25r and the battery life has been great so far.

Make sure you have the latest firmware V1.2 SP3 and your softcell cutoff set to 2.75v. That should take care of the early weak battery warning.

I haven't tried a 26650 in there yet. I can't decipher if your using an 18 or 26 in there. You're both running them at lower wattage. I'll try going down a bit.

agreed as skt and wingsfan mentioned, also check and clean contacts with some alcohol .. altho if that were the issue you would be seeing a dif in resistance most likely. So straight to escribe and check the firmware, then the settings with careful eye. I've more than once caused myself a prob just fiddling with the settings.. lol . (25r = samsung 18650)

Steve with Uwell, while I was beta testing the D1, send me several presets for the VT75 since I was having "issues". Included with the TC settings were VW settings. I just upgraded the firmware. Thank you for that Wingsfan. I loaded one that said VW for the 75 but it had temp predominant at 425 and watts also selected. I've uploaded the config but I'm waiting a bit. Why do TC with kanthal? It's the pre-installed coil for the Herakles v1. I'll clean the contacts anyway before hitting it next time. SKT, thank you for your input.

And, my solo is only a 2500mah - LGHE4 yellow. Although I have some 3000mah, they're married. I'm placing an order for 3 sets to keep my solos performing better. https://www.directvapor.com/accessories/brillipower-battery-3100-mah-2-pack.html which should work better with this. Ordering my first set of Efest also. This is the only solo mod that's draining at a speedy rate.

DNA chips won't TC Kanthal. The TCR of Kanthal is to low for it too work with TCR based TC. TC is basically limited to Ni200, Ti01, SS (304, 316, 317, 430), and Nife. There are some other wires people use but that is basically the bulk of whats used.

You would also need to use the proper curve or TCR for the wire you are using. If you know all this already, please don't be offended. I'm just trying to be thorough.

PS One of my profiles (out of the 8) that I set up is called Power Mode. I have TC turned off. I would use that if I still used Kanthal. It can be also used with SS (SS can be used in Power Mode or TC). I use Power Mode to dry burn my SS/Nife coils.

Edit to add - watching the screen as I hit the fire button the temp is jumping all the way up to 700 degrees then immediately temp protected. I'm baffled.

I jave a strong suspicion this is due to the preheat setting i warned you about. Preheat might be set to 55w or 75w as one of those is the default setting for the dna75 chip.

Do you have a "no preheat" profile? Not sure about your specific mod but volcano put a no preheat profile such as this:
