I dunno if this is done, but I'm gonna do it, and suffer any possible warnings.
I joined this forum solely because of the DIY section & the awesome info on here, so it felt a little weird going to an entirely different section of the forum to post an introduction. Especially when it said something about telling my entire story of how I got into vaping, which I really don't feel like doing. The relevant bit is that I've been vaping for a few months now, and I haven't found a single ADV.
Well...that's not exactly true. I MIGHT have found my first ADV, by mixing different eliquids, using a root beer & tobacco & then adding a vanilla tobacco to that. Problem is, the tobacco was leftover from when I just started vaping, from a vendor I don't wanna use again, the root beer was from another country and hard to get with new regs, and the vanilla tobacco was pretty bad by itself.
That's what I've found throughout most of my time vaping. Most of my eliquids I end up mixing and get a better flavor. I must have a really weird pallet, because many of the premium eliquids I've tried range from downright disgusting to meh or alright. Even the rare few I really liked, usually aren't worth the price. So rather than keep buying eliquids I don't like looking for the ones I do, I thought I'd finally delve into DIY.
I was researching DIY eliquid before I even got into vaping. When I started vaping, I already knew all the stuff about PG & VG. Though the thread about the extra chemicals and their uses to 'enhance' was EXTREMELY helpful. I already knew about a few by their brand names, but not what they were and why. THANK YOU @Karebear for posting it & her hubby @Ol'DocPorter for doing the research!
So now, I've been reading through the forums for the last few days, deciding on flavors for my order in the next few days and determining the last few bits I need. I already bought the VG, bottles, and syringes (Yes, I plan on working with volume rather than by weight. I feel more comfortable with that.), weeks ago, knowing I was gonna get into DIY, just finally taking the plunge, because frankly just tired of gross eliquid & the exorbitant prices on some of it.
Reading the forums though, I started to question if I should start with 100mg nic or not. I planned on getting about enough nic for 2 months, based on a rough estimate of my current usage, but I think I previously overlooked the fact that some keep it in the freezer. How necessary is that? There is no way I can keep it in the freezer here. (Staying with family currently.) I will be able to once I go back home. Working with 36mg nic to start does sound better tho. Will 2 months worth be fine just in a drawer, probably around 80 deg F or so? (We don't put the AC low.) I might start with only a month or so worth anyway, to keep my initial order down. The other option, regardless of quantity I start with, is to buy a large brown glass bottle, and just mix a 36mg or maybe even 25mg nic myself. I had read in a few places that VG nic settles quicker. Is that true? Will it matter if only getting a month's worth?
Looking around at prices, looks like I'm gonna go with ecx for flavorings to start, because their prices on FA seem to be pretty good.Hopefully their sale holds out until I can decide & make my order. Is their nic alright? I had seen quite a few suggest Vapers Tek for nic. Will it be alright to get a 250ml of their 36mg VG nic & wait til I'm home to mix my own? That should last me over a month at 12mg. (down from 18! woohoo!) But I'm just guestimating, because I switch flavors so often & mostly use RDA's now. But I THINK most days I'm under 15ml/day, with some rare days being over.
Last thing is, any suggestions?
I'm gonna get the FA espresso to try making a coffee eliquid & possibly a mocha, but not really decided on what type of chocolate yet. Been searching for a good coffee vape since I started vaping.
I need to try to 'clone' the tobacco root beer w/ just a hint of vanilla that I made. The root beer tasted a lot like a root beer barrel. That's gonna be a long process trying different tobacco flavors though, and I'm not sure I'm ready to buy all of those flavors yet.
One of the flavors I really like is blueberry. I'd like to try to make one of those for a potential ADV. I had seen a recipe on here for one, so I'll have to go and find that before my order.
One of the few flavors I REALLY liked was Blackberry by Vista Vapers. I know, ironic that a budget eliquid company would make one of the few flavors I really like, but hesitant to order from them again because I'm pretty sure they censor negative reviews, and that makes it impossible to buy anything with confidence. So any comments you have on recipes or flavors that are similar to their blackberry, that would be great.
I also like strawberry, but not sure I want to try that off the bat because I've read the various comments on the magically vanishing strawberry flavor. That actually explained a lot about how some eliquids that were supposed to taste like strawberry tasted like literally nothing.
I like tons of fruits, except pineapple. Not a huge fan of milks or deserts or candy. Not saying I won't necessarily try one, or even like it, just not a fan in general. Especially don't really like caramel. Refuse to vape custard. Not a big fan of mints, peppermint, or menthol. Although in vaping I've found I like mint/menthol more than I thought I did. It works well with some flavors, if done in the right amount. I'm sure now it's apparent why I can't find many vapes I like though.
